With the development of various IT technologies, data generated in the ship can be controlled through CAN communication, autonomous operation, and information provision in various situation. In addition, electronic navigation vessels with various functions have emerged, and navigation and communication equipment used in these vessels are mainly following the NMEA standard. Currently, NMEA-0183 is still mainly used, but more efficient multimedia transmission processing method is needed for multimedia transmission and USN equipment compatible using NMEA-2000 standard. Furthermore, Ethernet-based ship control is required. However, this paper proposes a multimedia transmission scheme to be smoothly linked with existing ship devices by utilizing CAN communication that can be easily used in the ship.

Due to the simplicity of communication structure using RS-232 and RS-422, the majority ships have still adapted on these communication interfaces and have constructed their own communication network in the ship. NMEA-0183 is the one of standards for BNWAS(Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System) and currently being used in many countries. BNWAS utilises diverse sensor devices, GPS, AIS and so on for monitoring the status of ships and their deployments and environmental information(temperature, humidity, wind speed/direction, water temperature/current etc…). This paper proposes the use of any image sensors in NMEA-0183 environment and verifies possibility with certain video qualities through the experiment results. Furthermore the paper gathers videos and monitors the change of their qualities depending on the number of NMEA messages on RS-232 communication link. Finally we make conclusion that our proposal is sufficiently appropriate for ship monitoring system in the NMEA-0183.

Vessel traffic service operators (VTSOs) need to quickly and accurately analyze the maritime traffic situation in the vessel traffic service (VTS) area and provide information to the vessels. However, if traf ic increases rapidly, the workload of VTSOs increases, and they may not be able to provide adequate information. Therefore, it is essential to develop VTSO support technologies that can reduce their workload and provide consistent information. In this paper, we propose a model for automatically detecting abnormal vessels in the VTS area. The proposed model consists of a positional model and a contextual model and is specifically optimized for the traffic characteristics of the target area. The implemented model was tested by using real-world data collected at a test center (Daesan Port VTS). Our experiments confirmed that the model could automatically detect various abnormal situations, and the results were validated through expert evaluation.

A Global Positioning System(GPS) in an automobile can provide navigational information for identifying the current location of the automobile and helping the drive determine a desirable route to the destination. Usefulness of such a system depends on many design factors. This study examined two critical design factors from a human factors standpoint. The rotation methods and updating schemes of a map were manipulated in a simulated driving environment. Design guidelines are suggested based on the experimental results.
Advent of the new European satellite positioning system, Galileo will result in development of new satellite receivers such as, GPS/Galileo dual mode receiver. Furthermore, a new GNSS satellite receiver would be required to be self-reconfigured to certain navigational environments like, indoor, high interference, integrity, etc. In this paper, design and implementation issue of a FPGA based flexible GNSS receiver which gets navigation solution using L1 band signals of GPS and Galileo simultaneously is addressed.

In vehicular networks, diverse safety information can be shared among vehicles through internet connections. In vehicle-to-internet communications, vehicles on the road are wirelessly connected to different cloud networks, thereby accelerating safety information exchange. Onboard sensors acquire traffic-related information, and reliable intermediate nodes and network services, such as navigational facilities, allow to transmit safety information to distant target vehicles and stations. Using vehicle-to-network communications, we minimize delays and achieve high accuracy through consistent connectivity links. Our proposed approach uses intermediate nodes with two-hop separation to forward information. Target vehicle detection and routing of safety information are performed using machine learning algorithms. Compared with existing vehicle-to-internet solutions, our approach provides substantial improvements by reducing latency, packet drop, and overhead.

This article describes the process involved in usability testing a agricultural information Web site. In addition to determining the goals and requirements for the agricultural information Web site, a user and task analysis was conducted for defining the its user base and the types of tasks which users might be performing at the site. Usability testing methods with close observation and in-depth interviews provided fresh insights about how users are interacting with the agricultural information Web interface as they approach various information seeking tasks. This study uncovered problems related to unclear terminology, improper interface, location for navigational links, need for context sensitive help, built-in redundancy, and clear and consistent navigation.

The evolution of civil engineering technology, exemplified by recent milestones like the completion of the Gangnam Global Business Center (GBC), has fostered the construction of expansive civil and architectural structures both above and below the earth's surface. This surge in construction necessitates a commensurate advancement in research and technology pertaining to safety protocols applicable to these vast edifices. Such protocols encompass a spectrum of concerns, ranging from the preemptive mitigation of accidents to the effective management of exigencies such as fires. As the trajectory of construction endeavors continues unabated, encompassing both subterranean and elevated domains, a concomitant imperative emerges to refine the methodologies underpinning precise indoor positioning. To address this need, an innovative web-based simulator has been devised to emulate indoor positioning scenarios for rigorous testing. This research further entails the development of an indoor positioning data Application Programming Interface (API) fortified by Geographic Information System (GIS) spatial operation techniques. This API is anchored in the construction of intricate test data, centered on the spatial layout of building 13 at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI). Consequently, the study renders feasible the expeditious provisioning of diverse signal-based and image-based spatial information, pivotal for enhancing the navigational acumen of mobile devices. Path delineation, cellular signal mapping, landmark identification, and ancillary navigational aids are among the manifold datasets promptly furnished by the indoor positioning data API. In summation, this study engenders a crucial leap towards the fortification of safety protocols and navigational precision within the expansive confines of modern architectural wonders.
