A Development of Automatic Safety Navigation Support Service Providing System for Medium and Small Ships based on Speech Synthesis (중소형 선박을 위한 음성합성 기반 자동 안전항해 지원 서비스 제공 시스템 개발)

  • Marine accidents are mostly caused by medium and small ships, and are continuously increasing. In this paper, we propose an architecture of the speech synthesis based automatic safety navigation support service providing system for small ships that equiped onboard systems compared with vessels. The main purpose of the system is to prevent marine accidents by providing synthesized voice safety messages to nearby ships. The safety navigation support service is operated by connecting GPS and AIS to synthesize voice safety messages, automatically broadcast through VHF. Therefore, we developed a data processing module, a staged risk analysis module, a voice synthesis safety message generation module, and a VHF broadcasting equipment control module, which are components of the system. In addition, we conducted laboratory-level and sea-trial demonstration tests using the developed the system, which verified usefulness of the proposed service.

Smart Power Management System for Leisure-ship

  • A leisure ship has a stand-alone type power system, and a generator is in use on this condition. But the generator cannot be operated in condition of leisure activity, ocean measurement and etc, because of environment and noise. Recently, renewable energy system is connected with power system of the leisure-ship for saving energy. The renewable energy system can not supply the stable power to leisure-ship because power generation changes according to weather condition. And most of the leisure ship is operated without methodical power management system. This study's purpose is to develop SPMS(Smart Power Management System) algorithm using the renewable energy (photovoltaic, wind power and etc.). The proposed algorithm is able to supply stable the power according to operation mode. Furthermore, the SPMS manages electric load (sailing and communication equipment, TV, fan, etc.) and reduces operating times of the generator. In this paper, the proposed algorithm is realized and executed by using LabVIEW. As a result, the hour for operating the generator is minimized.

  • An aircraft carrier is a combat ship that acts as an aircraft base at sea and performs combat through aircraft mounted as a military ship operating the aircraft. The Navy proposed a 40,000-ton light aircraft carrier operation plan that could be equipped with vertical takeoff and landing fighter jets and helicopters around 2033, and based on this, this study examined the operation of aircraft control equipment among the aviation support systems required for operating light aircraft carriers in Korea. PriFly, TWR's ILARTS, ILM for airspace control, ASR, PAR, LAAS or RNAV, PALS (JPALS) for access control are required as essential equipment, and communication network and SCATT-16 are required along with URN-25 TACAN, ICLS (El/Az), ACLS OLS, MOVAS, IFLOLS, etc. This study consists of two parts, and part 2 will describe a specific control method on an aircraft carrier.

  • In this paper, we study on a radio multiple sensing interface module to accurately decide serious error sources that are happened by unexpectable problems in industrial fields, in addition, we study a reliability improvement scheme to guarantee the integrity of multiple sensing data. For multiple sensing interface module, communication drivers such as USART, TWI, ADC and GPIO-I2C are implemented. to improve the transmission reliability, reed-Solomon code is used. From the simulation result of this system in indoor environment, we confirm that the reliability of RS coded data is improved about 5 times than uncoded data. Moreover, we prove that multiple sensing interface module is suitable to diagnose error sources of industrial automaton equipment.

  • The use of unmanned aerial vehicles is rapidly increasing in order to effectively utilize limited manpower and minimize casualties on the battlefield. The requirements for ground control equipment vary depending on the operating concept and environment of the unmanned aerial system, but there are still common requirements. However, the lack of standardized system configurations to meet these common requirements makes it difficult to reuse common functions, leading to continuous acquisition costs. To solve this problem, this paper develops a Korean version of the UCS model using the UCS architecture. Furthermore, after designing elements related to service development not specified in the architecture (such as framework, communication middleware, service structure, etc.), we develop a Boilerplate to enhance developers' work efficiency based on this. The results of this study will serve as a foundation for effectively and economically carrying out the development of ground control equipment for unmanned aerial systems.

  • Recently, Interest in power the quality was increased because of increasing the use of sensitive load equipment into an electrical disturbance such as computer, Electricity, Electronics, Telecommunications and semiconductor device. In addition, To enhance power quality, the instantaneous voltage drop occurred in precision load equipment is a need for proper compensation. In order to solve the problem, The developed dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) using an electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) has been applied. In this paper, We will do study to apply hybrid capacitors that have high energy density to the same size compared to the EDLC to DVR. Also, As a emergency luminaires of emergency power supply that we can support more than 10 years of life was confirmed the applicability of hybrid capacitor.

  • Recently, various systems have been developed to support ship navigation safety. In order to verify the usefulness of such a system, it is most ideal to try it on a real vessel, but there are many difficulties. As an alternative, usability verification methods applied with modelling and simulation (M&S) techniques are required such as FMSS, which is closest to reality, is very expansive to construct, and there needs the specialized operator. For this reason, this paper proposes a method to verify the navigation safety support system by modeling and simulation techniques based on the Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) formalism. As a first step, we designed the navigation simulation architecture based on the SES/MB framework, and details on modelling ship core equipment and navigator agents based on the DEVS. Through this, we are able to implement the navigation simulation system for vessels, and evaluate the effectiveness of navigation safety support elements such as collision avoidance, etc. using developed scenarios.

  • In this study, as the preliminary step for developing an unmanned vehicle to deliver a container-box, we designed and implemented Automatic Guided Vehicle(AGV) Simulator for the purpose of Port Facilities Automation. It is preferable to research the intelligent AGV for delivery all day long. For complementing AGV simulator driving, we used multiple-sensor systems with vision, ultrasonic, IR and adapted the high-speed wireless LAN that satisfies the IEEE 802.11 Standard for bi-directional communication between main processor in AGV and Host computer. Here, we mounted on bottom frame in AGV Pentium-III processor, which combine and compute the information from each sensor system and control the AGV driving, and used the 80C196KC micro-controller to control the actuating and steering motors.

  • A new operational concept for the CNS/ATM using the digital data communication technology and satellite navigation system is being implemented globally and the United States is the first country to apply UAT ADS-B system for general aviation. Korea also has plan to build ADS-B system for aeronautical surveillance to monitor low altitude flight of light aircraft and ultra-light flying device and the research to develop UAT ADS-B equipment is being carried out. This paper presents the application method of UAT ADS-B to support test operation with case study of foreign UAT ADS-B operation and survey of domestic environment.

Impact of solar storm on Navaids system (태양폭풍이 항행안전시설에 미치는 영향분석)

  • The solar storm generated by solar activity can be impact on earth in various area. If solar storm impact on Navaids system, it will be a serious problem for aviation and human safety. The impact analysis of solar strom on Navaids system are performed in three area, ILS, GPS navigation and radio communication for aviation. Analysis result show that Instrument Landing System(LLZ, GP, MB) and Navaids system(VOR, DME, Radar) are not impacted by the solar storm, but GPS system is impacted by solar storm. Also analysis result show that VHF/UHF radio system are not impacted by solar storm, but HF radio system is impacted by solar storm.
