The purpose of this study is on identifying real condition of naturalized plants in urban green space. For this, Chollabak-do region was selected for case study. The occurring frequency and distribution status was investigated by field survey. The area of green open space, level of management and passed years after construction etc, were analized to identify the influence on occurrence of naturalized plants. The result is as follows: 1. In 18 sites, 145 taxa as weed species including naturalized plants were occurred. Average No. of occurring taxa is 22.7. Two families of plants, Graminae and compositae charged the most part. Also the rate of naturalized plant among them is 29.7%. 2. Naturalized species showing high occurring rate are 14 taxa of compositae, 5 taxa of Gramineae, Leguminosae and 4 taxa of cruciferae. These plants of previous four somatic polymorphism among all the naturalized plants. 3. The taxa number of naturalized plants were reducedby intensive management. But the rate of naturalized plants in extensively managed area was relatively lower than intensively managed one. Naturalizd plants were widely distributed in most of urban green space with being cognitioned as whole weed. 4. In origin of naturalized plants, the taxa from north America were 16 and the taxa from Europe were 16. Therefore the rate originated from north America and Europe charged high part as 68.2%. The rate of Annual, Biennial and Perennial were each 78.7%, 21.3%. The alternative of management for control aganist disturbance by Annual & Biennial required. 5. Multi-relations analysis shows 0.81 which is the relatively high interralation between the number of emerged axa and that of naturalized ones. 6. The number of naturalized species has no relation to the lapse of years after construction of open-space. Especially it was identified that weed control in the beginning of construction is very important. On the other hand the relation between Ys and Xp was Ys=1.784Xp+4.646.

Most of the plants and trees are landscaping plants at the university campus, Thus, the natural flora can be found on sidewalks like urban area. In order to investigate the flora on sidewalks of the university campus, the vegetation survey was done. The study site is Natural Science Campus, Sungkyunkwan University which is located at Suwon, Korea. Vascular plants surveyed were consisted of 130 taxa, 39 families, 99 genera, 115 species, 15 varieties. Indigenous weeds was 101 species (77.7%). Naturalized weeds was 29 species (22.3%). In the families, Compositae 30 species (23%), Gramineae 18 species (14%), Leguminosae 9 species (7%), Caryophyllaceae 8 species (6%), Cruciferae 8 species (6%), Polygonaceae 5 species (4%), Euphorbiaceae 5 species (4%), Scrophulariaceae 4 species (3%), Rosaceae 3 species (2%), Violaceae 3 species (2%), Convolvulaceae 3 species (2%) and etc. 34 species (27%). Life Form of flora in the site by Raunkiaer classification was Therophytes 67 species (51.5%), Hemicryptophytes 46 species (35.4%), Geophytes 8 species (6.2%), Nanophanerophytes 4 species (3.1%), Phanerohytes 3 species (2.3%) and Chamaephytes 2 species (1.5%). Naturalized Ratios was 10.7%.
This study was conducted in order to investigate the distribution pattern of weeds and ecological characteristics on the dry field in the Eastern region of Korea. The weed species data were obtained from 12 regions in Gangwon-do and Gyeongsang-do. 150 taxa were recorded from three main distinguished habitats; inside of dry field (IDF), embankment around the end of dry field (EDF), levee slope of dry field (LS). The weed species of three different habitats were IDF 83 taxa, EDF 133 taxa and LS 105 taxa. The species showing higher rNCD value was Portulaca oleracea in IDF, Digitaria sanguinalis in EDF and Humulus japonicus in LS. Compositae was dominant family followed by Gramineae, Polygonaceae and Leguminosae. Life form was distinguished as Th-R5-D4-e and three different habitats showed the same results. Disturbance index was analysed as IDF 83.1%, EDF 68.4%, and LS 62.9%. Naturalized rate was analysed as IDF 28.9%, EDF 22.6%, and LS 20.0%. These results indicate that the weeding management, land use intensity, and human interference effect on the distribution index and naturalized rate of weed.

Lactuca serriola L. (syn. L. scariola L.), commonly known as prickly lettuce, invaded Korea in the late 1970s. The plant has since become widely naturalized and disruptive to native plant communities. In May 2020, downy mildew infections were observed on L. serriola in Gimje-si, Korea. Molecular phylogenetic and morphological analyses identified the causal agent as Bremia lactucae. This is the first report of B. lactucae infection on L. serriola in Korea.
Numerous cases have been reported of naturalization by exotic ornamental plants. To obtain basic data about how those plants affect the ecosystems of Korea, we compiled a list of 78 species categorized as ornamentals from 309 naturalized species in Korea and analyzed their life forms, origin, and their current global status of naturalization and regulation. Plants belonging to Compositae comprised the largest group, with 23 species. In all, 75 species were considered herbaceous, and perennial species out-numbered annuals and biennials. Most species originated from Europe and North America. Except for Houttuynia cordata, the other 77 species were naturalized in other countries as well. Furthermore, 34 species, including Aster pilosus and Solidago altissima, have been subject to legal restrictions or classified as alert species in Korea or other countries. Therefore, monitoring may be required to prevent spread of those species, especially for species which have not been managed under domestic law up to now.
The nationwide weed survey was conducted in arable land, paddy field, upland, orchard and pasture, over whole country of Korea during 3 years from 2013 to 2015. Also, these survey were conducted in order to determine a change of weed community and to identify a major dominant weed species, and problem weeds. Weeds of arable land were composed of 619 species belonging to 81 families. Weeds occurred in paddy field were 90 species belonging to 28 families, upland weeds were 375 species of 50 families, orchard weeds were 492 species of 63 families and pasture weeds 275 species of 52 families. Among total 81 families, the Asteraceae (15.5%) was the biggest family, followed by Poaceae (13.1%), Fabaceae (5.5%), Cyperaceae (5.2%), Polygonaceae (6.3%), respectively. And these weed species were composed of annual weeds of 209 species (33.8%), winter annual of 102 species (16.4%) and perennial weeds of 308 species (49.8%). Exotic weeds naturalized in Korea were investigated as 166 species. Weed flora in Korean cultivation area have been increased as much as 13 families and 186 species for 10 years compared to 2000~2004 weed survey result of 68 families and 433 species. The increment could be resulted from the change of weed population such as increase of the herbicide-resistant and the difference of investigation method.

Naturalized populations of two alien plants were newly found, and we describe their morphological characteristics and habitats with photographs. One is a member of Juncaceae, Juncus torreyi Coville, and was newly found at a pool of a beach in Gangwon-do. This rush is native to North America and belongs to the sect. Ozophyllum (subgen. Juncus) according to certain morphological characteristics, such as its racemose inflorescence, the absence of floral bracteole, and unitubular leaves with perfect septa. J. torreyi is easily distinguishable from Korean rushes by its long rhizomes with swollen nodes and globular head with 25-100 flowers. Its introduction into Japan and Europe was reported, but the ecological risk associated with its over-dispersal is not known. The other alien plant is a submerged plant, Egeria densa Planch. (Hydrocharitaceae), which was found in streams in Gyeongsangbuk-do and ditches in the Busan-si area, both of which being in the watershed of the Nakdong River. Egeria densa is similar to Hydrilla verticillata (L.f.) Royle, which is native to Korea. However, it is distinguished from H. verticillata by its larger flowers and lack of overwintering organs. This alien plant is native to South America and was introduced for aquarium gardening and naturalized around the world. Egeria densa is treated as a malignant weed due to its asexual reproduction and rapid growth. Size changes and the number of populations of E. densa must be investigated.
Invasive alien species (IAS) can affect agricultural ecosystem negatively and critically. The geographical distributions of nine IAS plants in Korean orchards and uplands were investigated. Ambrosia artemisiifolia distributed widely in Korean peninsula and Ambrosia trifida distributed intensively in Gyeonggi-do. Aster pilosus distributed in Gyeonggi-Gangwon region and Lactuca scariola distributed linear region from the north-western to south-eastern part of Korea. Hypochaeris radicata distributed mainly in Jeju-do and Solanum carolinense distributed in eastern Gyeonggi-do. Rumex acetosella and Sicyos angulatus sporadically occurred in Korean croplands and Eupatorium rugosum was found in one region only. The distribution of IAS plants in croplands was very similar to that in non-croplands suggesting that ecological position of arable lands is not different from that of non-arable lands. Therefore, IAS plants in the croplands should be managed for not only prevention of yield reduction, but also protection or maintenance of original ecosystem. Development of management methods apposite to current Korean status are required to control IAS plants in croplands.
We surveyed the distribution of exotic weeds in Korean paddy fields, uplands, orchards and pastures from 12,568 sites during 3 years, 2013, 2014 and 2015. As a result, 166 species in 28 families were identified and 7, 130, 126, and 80 species were surveyed from paddy fields, uplands, orchards, and pastures, respectively. Among the 166 species, 128 species were annual weed and 38 species were perennial weed. Especially, winter annual exotic weeds were 63 species (37.8%). 46, 16, and 104 exotic weeds were classified to their introduction period of $1^{st}$ (1876-1921), $2^{nd}$ (1922-1963), and $3^{rd}$ (1964-now) period, respectively. The exotic weeds introduced in $2^{nd}$ and $3^{rd}$ period, included 12 Invasive Alien Species. The weeds from $1^{st}$ period, however, could be grouped into native weeds as the 'naturalized weed' and managed the same as the native weeds. Especially, some exotic weeds such as common groundsel were widely distributed in Korean crop lands, and they will become more problematic in near future. Therefore, systemic research from the biology to management should be conducted and the results from the studies should be applied practically.
Introgression from genetically modified plants (GMPs) may be dependent on the genetic similarity to wild relative plants. In Korea, many wild plant species are botanically related to the cultivated plants that have a potential to be genetically transformed. The controversy for hazards of GMPs is continuing because the studies on gene flow or introgression are little. Based on the systematic criteria, we have surveyed Korean wild plant species that showed the similarity to cultivating crops. The consideration for feasibility of genetic pollution (introgression of transgene) is necessary for the successful accomplishment in the practical use of GMPs. Although the detrimental effects of GMPs on wild relatives have not been clearly verified, Korean wild plant species related to crop plant (potential GMP) have to be investigated with respect to the introgression. Korean flora consists of ca. 5,500 species. Among them, 1,448 species are classified as weed species (966 native, 325 naturalized, and 167 escaped ones), which is vulnerable to GMPs in term of introgression. We suggested the principal Korean wild plants related to major crops that might be affected by GMPs via introgression. The investigated species herein are selected based on the morphological and phenological relationship. It is necessary to verify the genetic relationship between cultivated plants and wild relatives sing more precise molecular techniques, which provide the information of likelihood for the introgression of transgene.
