자연하도 하구부에서 갈수시 양수에 의한 지하수 유독특성 및 취수능력 결정에 관한 연구 (Study on the Characteristics of Groundwater Movement Caused by Pumping During Drought Period and Estimation of Pumping Capacity in Natural River Estuary)

  • In this study, pumping capacity in the area of natural river estuary is estimated by the quantitative analysis using finite element method. The study area is Iga-ri pumping station in the estuary of Seojung-chun which runs to the East coast. First of aH, hydraulic properties and effects of different seawater levels are analyzed in this area. Variations of groundwater level caused by pumping and properties of seawater intrusion are analyzed, then compared the case of reinforcing the existing intake weir with the case of setting up an weir at the upper stream. The observed data of groundwater drawdown caused by pumping during drought period and seawater intrusion are compared with results of the analysis done by groundwater model using finite element method, and it is found that both are similar. Accordingly, groundwater model used in this study reflects well the variation of groundwater level caused by pumping.

해수 중에서 자연상태 황토입자의 침강특성 (Settling Characteristics of Natural Loess Particles in Seawater)

  • 해수 중에서 자연상태의 황토입자의 침강특성에 관한 연구의 요약은 다음과 같다. 1. 2,000mg/$\ell$ 황토용액에 대한 PSD 곡선은 0 min. 침강시간에서 정규분포곡선을 나타내었고 평균입도는 31.6$\mu$m, 변동계수는 $75,6\%$로써 매우 광범위한 입도의 분포상태를 보여 주었다. 그러나 침강시간이 경과함에 따라 비정규분포곡선의 양상을 나타내었다. 한편 무게누적분포곡선에서 거의 $100\%$의 입자가 20$\mu$m 보다 큰 입자로 구성되어 있었다. 2. 해수 중에서 황토입자에 대한 $V_s/(D_{bm})^{1/2}$ 비의 값은 입자의 크기가 증가함에 따라 기하급수적으로 증가하였으며, 1 $\mu$m 입자를 중심으로 이 이상은 $V_s$$(D_{bm})^{1/2}$보다 크고 이 미만은$(D_{bm})^{1/2}$$V_s$ 보다 큰 값을 나타내었다. 20$\mu$m 크기의 입자에 대하여 $V_s/(D_{bm})^{1/2}$ 비의 값은 2,355이었다. 3. 해수 중에서 황토입자는 매우 엷은 EDL 두께 (0.4$\mu$m)를 나타냄으로써 EDL repulsive force가 거의 존재하지 않았으며, 상호 접근하는 황토입자는 모든 간격에서 LVDW attractive force가 EDL repulsive force보다 큰 값을 나타내어 항상 용이하게 floc을 형성할 수밖에 없는 조건에 있었다. 4. 해수 중의 황토입자의 $V_s/(D_{bm})^{1/2}$ 비의 값과 total interaction energy로부터 자연상태의 황토입자는 해수 중에서 외부의 강력한 전단력이 없이는 매우 확산되기 어려운 상태에 있으며, 조류의 수평운동이 적은 내만에서는 입자의 물리적 거동은 침강에 의하여 지배되는 것으로 나타났다. 5. 2,000mg/$\ell$ 황토용액에 대한 침강실험에서 대략 $22.5\%$의 황토는 격렬한 교반에도 불구하고 즉시 침강하였다. 황토농도가 400, 2,000, 10,000mg/$\ell$으로 증가함에 따라 침강특성은 개별입자침강(Type I settling or discrete settling)에서 응결침강(Type II settling or flocculation settling)의 상태로 바뀌었다. 이것은 실제 해양에서 황토입자들 끼리 floc을 형성할 정도로 많은 양의 황토를 적절한 분산장치 없이 살포하는 것은 지양해야 하며 동시에 동일한 농도의 황토용액도 살포방법에 따라 분산의 크기가 달라질 수 있음을 의미하는 것이다. 6. PVD 그래프로부터 자연상태의 황토는 급격하게 침강하는 입자와 장시간 부유하며 천천히 침강하는 입자로 구성되어 있었고 후자의 양이 전자의 양에 비하여 매우 적은 상태로 나타났다. 7. 황토를 이용하여 적조를 효과적으로 제거하기 위해서는 자연상태의 황토를 그대로 사용하기보다는 (1) 미세한 입자상태로 분쇄하고, (2) 적절한 살포장비와 분산장비를 사용하여 해수 중에서 황토입자가 넓게 부유 분산하여 적조생물과 충분한 충돌을 일으키도록 해야한다. 이것은 적어도 황토입자를 이용하여 적조를 응집 제거하려고 할 경우 피할 수 없는 기본적 원리가 되며 동시에 황토 사용량을 줄일 수 있는 하나의 방법이 된다. 8. 일반적으로 입자의 크기는 응집 및 흡착반응에 매우 중요한 인자가 된다. 황토입자는 크기가 작을수록 용이하게 분산시킬 수 있으며 더욱 효과적으로 Cochlodinium 적조를 제거할 수 있다. 실제로 어떤 황토입자의 크기가 적조 제거에 효과적인가는 현장실험을 통하여 침강속도, 수평분산범위, 적조제거효율 등을 조사하여 반드시 결정하여야 한다.

성게의 초기 발생계를 이용한 인천연안해수 수질평가 (Evaluation of Seawater Quality from Incheon Offshore Using Early Development Systems of A Sea Urchin)

  • In January 2009, the water quality of offshore around the Incheon coast was evaluated by bioassay using early development systems of a sea urchin species, Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus. The results of performing biological evaluations on seawater samples from total of thirteen sites, showed that the formation rates of normal pluteus larva varied from 18% to 71%. In site 5 the seawater sample led to an averaage formation rate of normal larva of 18%, the highest abnormal formation rate hindering the early embryo development of the experimental animal, while that of site 3 averaged 71%, the highest formation rate of normal larva. Seawater samples from site 1, 2, 4, 7, 9, 10, 11 and 12, resulted in average formation rates of normal larva from 33% to 56%, which indicates the developmental damage of early embryos is not severe. Seawater samples from site 5, 6, 8 and 13, resulted in average formation rates of normal larva from 18% to 21% which there was strong damage to the development of early embryos.

자연해수를 이용한 해수 중 영양염 분석용 표준물질 개발 (Development of Reference Material Using Natural Seawater for Nutrient Analysis in Seawater)

  • 해수 중 용존 영양염은 해양 내 물질순환을 이해하는 가장 기초적인 자료로 전 지구적 환경변화를 감지하는데 필수 생지화학 성분으로 그 중요성이 인식되고 있다. 분석능력이 다양한 연구자들에 의해서 상이한 시공간에서 측정된 용존 영양염 자료의 상호 비교를 위해 영양염 표준물질의 필요성이 증가하고 있다. 본 연구는 경기도 시화호 내측연안, 울진의 인근 연안 표층수와 동해 울릉분지 표층과 1500m에서 채취된 해수를 여과, 멸균하여 제조한 영양염 표준물질의 균질성과 안정성에 대하여 다루었다. 본 연구에서 제작된 영양염 표준물질은 해외에서 제조되는 영양염 표준물질과 유사한 균질성을 가지고 있다. 제조 후 3-13개월 동안 영양염 농도가 일정한 방향으로 감소하거나 증가하는 경향이 관측되지 않았으며 이 보다 더 긴 기간 동안의 안정성은 지속적인 모니터링이 필요하다.

막증류 공정에서 오염 인자가 플럭스 변화에 미치는 영향 (Effects of various foulants on flux changes in membrane distillation process)

  • The effects of dissolved inorganic and organic matter in seawater and the characteristics of fouling on the membrane surface were investigated within membrane distillation (MD) process. The changes of the membrane flux of PE and PVDF hollow fiber membranes under natural and synthetic seawater were compared with given variances of temperature. The flux of both membranes under the synthetic seawater, without any organic matter, were higher than that of the natural seawater, indicating the organic fouling on the membrane surface. The surface of the membrane was analyzed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) to examine the fouling. The experiment with organics has shown the formation of thin film over the membrane surface, while the experiment with inorganics has shown only the formation of inorganic crystals. The results indicated the organic matter as the major foulants and that the organics affected the formation of the crystals. Permeate water conductivity of all conditions verified the quality of the water to be better if not similar to that of RO.

알루미늄 6061-T6 합금에 대한 양극산화층이 해수 내 부식 및 응력부식균열에 미치는 영향 (Effect on Anodizing Oxide Film for Aluminum 6061-T6 Alloy on Corrosion and Stress Corrosion Cracking in Seawater)

  • This paper investigated the characteristics of anodized aluminum 6061-T6 alloy for corrosion and stress corrosion cracking(SCC) under natural seawater. The hard anodizing oxide film formed on the 6061-T6 was a uniform thickness of about 25 ㎛. The corrosion characteristics were performed with a potentiodynamic polarization test. SCC was characterized by a slow strain rate tensile test under 0.005mm/min rate. As a result, the anodizing film showed no significant effect on SCC in the slow strain rate test. However, the corrosion current density of base metal was measured to be approximately 13 times higher than that of the anodized specimen. Therefore, the anodizing film significantly improved the corrosion resistance of 6061-T6 alloy in natural seawater.

A continuous-flow and on-site mesocosm for ocean acidification experiments on benthic organisms

  • Mesocosm experiments conducted for ecological purposes have become increasingly popular because they can provide a holistic understanding of the biological complexities associated with natural systems. This paper describes a new outdoor mesocosm designed for $CO_2$ perturbation experiments of benthos. Manipulated the carbonate chemistry in a continuous flow-through system can be parallelized with diurnal changes, while irradiance, temperature, and nutrients can vary according to the local environment. A target hydrogen ion activity (pH) of seawater was sufficiently stabilized and maintained within 4 h after dilution, which was initiated by the ratio of $CO_2$-saturated seawater to ambient seawater. Specifically, pH and $CO_2$ partial pressure ($pCO_2$) levels gradually varied from 8.05-7.28 and $375-2,691{\mu}atm$, respectively, over a range of dilution ratios. This mesocosm can successfully manipulate the pH and $pCO_2$ of seawater, and it demonstrates suitability for ocean acidification experiments on benthic communities.

Radiotoxicity flux and concentration as complementary safety indicators for the safety assessment of a rock-cavern type LILW repository

  • This study presents a practical application of complementary safety indicators, which can be applied in a safety assessment of a radioactive waste repository by excluding a biosphere simulation and comparing the artificial radiation originating from the repository with the background natural radiation. Complementary safety indicators (radiotoxicity flux from geosphere and radiotoxicity concentration in seawater) were applied in the safety assessment of a rock-cavern type low and intermediate level radioactive waste (LILW) repository in the Republic of Korea. The natural radionuclide ($^{40}K$, $^{226,228}Ra$, $^{232}Th$, and $^{234,235,238}U$) concentrations in the groundwater and seawater at the Gyeongju LILW repository site were measured. Based on the analyzed concentrations of natural radionuclides, the levels of natural radiation were determined to be $8.6{\times}10^{-5}$ - $8.0{\times}10^{-4}Sv/m^2/yr$ and $6.95{\times}10^{-5}Sv/m^3$ for radiotoxicity flux from the geosphere and radiotoxicity concentration in seawater, respectively. From simulation results obtained using a Goldsim-based safety assessment model, it was determined that the radiotoxicity of radionuclides released from the repository is lower than that of the natural radionuclides inherently present in the natural waters. The applicability of the complementary safety indicators to the safety case was discussed with regard to reduction of the uncertainty associated with biosphere simulations, and communication with the public.

한국 진도의 자연군락 뜸부기(Silvetia siliquosa)의 생장과 성숙 주기 (Growth and Maturation Period of Silvetia siliquosa in the Natural Population in Jindo, South Korea)

  • The ecological characteristics of Silvetia siliquosa, an endangered brown alga, were investigated from January to December 2013 in Jindo, South Korea. The S. siliquosa population formed widespread patches on natural rock. Receptacles were observed from March to August when seawater temperatures ranged from 8-26℃. A maturation peak was detected in June, when seawater temperatures were 23.4℃. After embryo release, the alga bleached and only the discoidal holdfast remained after August. Developmental initiation of the thallus occurred at temperatures above 8℃, and receptacle formation required approximately 196 degree-days. This is the first study to examine a S. siliquosa population throughout the entire year in a natural habitat.

해수 및 대기 중 DMS의 분석 : 마산만을 중심으로 (Dimethylsulfide (DMS) in Seawater and the Overlying Atmosphere of the Masan Bay)

  • The concentrations of dimethylsulfide (DMS) were determined from both seawater and the overlying atmosphere from a station located in the Masan Bay area during a ten-day field campaign period of January 1996. The resulting data were also used to derive saturation ratios (SR) as well as sea-to-air fluxes of DMS. The concentrations and fluxes of DMS for both reservoirs varied extensively over two to three orders of magnitude: DMS in air and seawater were measured at 9 to 4,300 pptv (mean: 600 $\pm$ 1, 170, N=18) and at 0.24 to 10 nM (4.0 $\pm$ 3.4, N=13), respectively, while its fluxes were found from 0.02 to 23 mol $m^{-2} day^{-1} (3.1 \pm 6.8, N=11)$. A comparative analysis between our data and previously reported ones indicate that its atmospheric concentrations are abnormalously high, but its seawater counterparts are slightly lower than expected. In light of high pollution levels of organic-rich materials in and the associated high biological productivity of the study area, the sea-to-air-fluxes derived are notably low relative to those values typically reported from the coastal areas. These complicated features of DMS distributions/fluxes in the study site indicate that the near-by port- based anthropogenic activities from various industrial plants strongly interfere with natural processes leading to the production and release of DMS. It was however striking to find out relatively strong signals of diel cycle in its saturation ratios, concentration gradients between seawater and atmosphere, and the associated fluxes. Although it is yet difficult to provide meaningful explanations for the observed phenomena, the existence of clear diel cycle in some DMS-related parameters suggests that the natural processes may nonetheless exert important controls on the regional cycling of atmospheric sulfur species, of particular DMS.
