This study investigates the heat transfer due to a change in the shape of a radiator panel inside a computer. As with models of radiator panels, models have the same surface areas. As the gap between heat transfer surfaces in model 1 becomes wider than those in model 2, the heat transfer at model 1 becomes smoother than that of model 2. By comparing the cooling processes between models 1 and 2 with respect to natural convection, a maximum temperature of $47.432^{\circ}C$ at model 1 becomes lower than that of model 2, at $49.821^{\circ}C$. Within the radiator panel, model 1 has been shown to be more effective than model 2. Accordingly, these results can be effectively applied to the shape design of radiator panels to imbue them with smoother and faster heat transfer through the finite element method.

A 1 MVA single-phase high temperature superconducting (HTS) transformer with BSCCO-2223 wire was designed in this paper. The rated voltages of each sides of the transformer are 22.9 kV and 6.6 kV respectively. Double pancake HTS windings arranged reciprocally will be used for the transformer windings, because of the advantages of insulation and distribution of surge voltage in case of a large power and high voltage transformer. Single HTS wire was used for the primary windings and four parallel wires were used for the secondary windings of the transformer with transposition. A core of the transformer was designed as a shell type core separated with the windings by a cryostat made of GFRP with a room temperature bore. The operating temperature of the HTS windings will be about 65K with sub-cooled liquid nitrogen. A cryogenic cooling system using a GM-cryocooler for this HTS transformer by natural convection of liquid nitrogen was designed. This type of cooling system can be a good option for compactness, efficiency, and reliability of the HTS transformer.
This paper describes the numerical simulations in the cooling of the radiator in a distribution transformer. The aim of this work is the cooling optimization of the transformer by CFD simulations. A clear understanding of the cooling pattern in a radiator which is a main heat remover in the power transformer is essential for optimizing the radiator design increasing the thermal efficiency. In this paper we study the heat transfer and fluid flow in a 3-phase 400kVA transformer. The plate radiators of this transformer become wrinkled (corrugated radiator) and there are filled with transformer oil. The oil is circulated due to the natural convection driven by buoyancy effects through radiators so that the ultimate cooling medium is the surrounding air. In the design of transformers, it is of interest to minimize the cost and size of radiators. The obtained results show the temperature and flow distributions and the possibility to optimize the transformer with 3-dimensional CFD models using FLUENT.

Natural convection heat transfer have been paid attention because it can be applied to various areas such as cooling of nuclear reactor, heat storing system and so on. Among such applications, the melting process of phase change material(PCM) has been actively studied. However most researches have focused on phase change heat transfer in natural melting. Therefore, In this paper, ultrasonic vibration was adopted to increase the melting rate. In addition, general relationship and corelationship between melting with ultrasonic vibration and melting without ultrasonic vibration have been established during the melting of PCM.
Since the TMI and Chernobyl accidents, many passive safety features are suggested in advanced reactors in order to enhance the safety in future nuclear power plants. In order to verify the effectiveness and provide the data for detailed design of passive cooling system, in the present work, the effects of air inlet position and external condition on the natural circulated air flow rate and the natural and forced convective heat transfer coefficient have been investigated for the one-side heated closed path such as the passive containment cooling system of the Westinghouse's AP-600. A series of experiments have been peformed with the 1/26th scaled segment type test facility of the AP-600 passive containment. Under natural and forced convection, the air velocities and temperatures are measured at several points of the air flow path. The experimental result are compared with a simple one-dimensional model and it shows a good agreement.
The numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the thermal-fluid phenomena occurred inside the experimental apparatus during a PCCS, used to remove heat released in accidents from a containment of light water nuclear power plant, operation. Numerical simulations of the flow and heat transfer caused by wall condensation inside the containment simulation vessel (CSV), which equipped with 18 vertical heat exchanger tubes, were conducted using the commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software ANSYS-CFX. Shear stress transport (SST) and the wall condensation model were used for turbulence closure and wall condensation, respectively. The simulation using the actual size of the apparatus. However, rather than simulating the whole experimental apparatus in consideration of the experimental cases, calculation resources, and calculation time, the simulation model was prepared only in CSV. Selective simulation was conducted to verify the effects of non-condensable gas(NC gas) concentration, CSV internal pressure, and wall sub-cooling conditions. First, as a result of the internal flow of CSV, it was observed that downward flow due to condensation occurred surface of the vertical tube and upward flow occurred in the distant place. Natural convection occurred actively around the heat exchanger tube. Due to this rising and falling internal flow, natural circulation occurred actively around the heat exchanger tubes. Next, in order to check the performance of built-in condensation model using according to the non-condensable gas concentration, CSV internal flow and wall sub-cooling, the heat flux values were compared with the experimental results. On average, the results were underestimated with and error of about 25%. In addition, the influence of CSV internal pressure and wall sub-cooling was small, but when the condensate was highly generated due to the low non-condensable gas concentration, the error was large compared to the experimental values. This is considered to be due to the nature of the condensation model of the CFX code. However, in spite of the limitations of CFD, it is valid to use the built-in condensation model of CFD for PCCS performance prediction from a conservative perspective.
Cooling systems for electronic equipments are becoming more important. Cooling technologies using natural and forced convection are limited and operated in very low efficiency. A corona discharge is utilized as the driving mechanism for anair pump, which allows for airflow generation with low noise and no moving parts. However they do not enhance the flow rate and overcome the control mechanism of the pump. In this study a point-mesh type air pump, with a third electro de installed near the corona point, has been proposed and investigated by focusing on elevating the ionic wind velocity and power yield. As a result, the significantly enhanced ionic wind velocity and tremendously increased power yield can be obtained with the proposed air pump system.
The natural convection cooling of simulated electronic chips located on a printed circuit board(PCB) has been studied by Computer Aided Engineering(CAE). In CAE, 3-dimensional finite element model of simulated electronic chip was made to accomplish heat transfer analysis at each design stage of a printed circuit boards for thermal optimization. The simulated electronic chips are installed protrudent from the plate about 3mm. The materials the plates are epoxy and aluminum. The results show that the chip with relatively high heat generation rates should not be close to each other. It is found, as well that cooling effect for the aluminum plate is superior to the epoxy plate and location of maximum temperature is significantly influenced by the structure variation of PCB. In developing PCB and electronic chips, it's recommended that CAE is very useful to estimate to the distribution of temperature.

The containment pressure and temperature transient analysis computer code CONTEMPT4/MOD5 is modified to incorporate the passive containment cooling models. The correlations are selected from the existing experimental heat transfer correlations to model the natural and mixed convection in annular space between the containment shell and the shield building. The evaporative heat transfer of the water film on the outer shell of the containment is modeled using the correlations derived from the analogy between the heat and mass transfer. The modified code is applied to the Ap600 containment transient analysis for the model verification and the results are compared to the results of GOTHIC calculation done by Westinghouse. Also, d series of parametric sensitivity studies of heat transfer correlations, water film ratio and delay time of the wet cooling on the containment peak pressure and temperature following LOCA are performed for the containment of 1000MWe passive plant, KP1000.
