  • Explosive bolt is coupled in a variety of guided weapons and space projectiles, to perform the separation function. Thus, the role of the explosive bolt in guided weapons systems is very important, as it can cause failure of the entire system in the case of mission failure. For this reason, the design life prediction for explosive bolt is highly and frequently required recently, but its accurate prediction method has not been presented. In order to apply the existing accelerated aging process, we should know the activation energy and the acceleration factor of the explosive bolt. Since the information required for accelerated aging is not presently secured, it is difficult to predict the design life of explosive. Thus, in the present study, we have evaluated the performance of actual explosive bolts in the condition of natural aging over 10 years in order to present a minimum design life.

  • To evaluate and investigate the aging characteristics and the structural service lifetime of the CFV(carbon fiber pressure vessel), natural aging tests were carried out using the CFVs, which had been placed and aged at outdoor and indoor laboratories for 10 and 15 years, respectively. To obtain the probabilistic characteristics of ageing characteristics in aged CFVs, inner pressure loading test was conducted with ring specimens taken from aged CFVs. And, to observe the interface morphology of aged CFVs, the micro-photographs were taken by SEM microscope and the fractured interfaces between the carbon fiber and the matrix resin were scrutinized. Based on the Weibull parameters of the tensile failure strain of aged CFVs, the degradation of the 10 and the 15 year aged CFV occur by 19% and 23%, respectively, and the effect of the placement, whether being placed inside the laboratory or not, is not so significant. However, the outer layer protection, such as painting, is found very advantageous to prevent CFV from aging.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest an anti-aging health care plan through a literature analysis of the life activity system of Oriental Medicine. The source of normal maintenace, development, and change of the natural world and the human body's life activity process is the dynamical cooperative equilibrium of the internal Shen-Ji's discipline that creates, grows, changes, makes differences and stores(生长化收藏) and external Qi-Li's process of change from birth to growth, maturity to old age and ending of life(生長壯老已). Therefore, it was analyzed that the natural and human life activity processes are normally maintained, developed, and transformed. As a result, when the natural healing power of Genuine-Qi, the source of the human vitality, rises with the 'breathing massage' that combines a static breathing method which is anti-aging health care method applying the lifting entering movement of Qi and a dynamic abdominal massage, and it harmonizes the Shen-Ji which is the life process system and Qi-Li so that it is believed to be helpful in prolonging a healthy lifespan.

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of aging and various risk factors on the oral environment and to analyze them in 3-dimensions. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A total of 800 patients were enrolled in this study, and subjects were divided into 4 groups by age-under 55, 56 - 65, 66 - 75, and over 76. Based on their most recent visit, the number of crowns, bridges, implants, and the remaining natural teeth were recorded. Smoking habits, along with presence of diabetes and hypertension, were surveyed, as risk factors were also set as a variable. Comparisons among the groups or within the groups were performed by independent t-test, and one-way and two-way ANOVA. Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney U test were used for analysis. It was assumed to be statistically significant when P value is below .05. RESULTS. Changes in the number of crowns, bridges, implants, and the remaining natural teeth by age were statistically significant. When we examined the effect of risk factors on the change of variables with age, hypertension was found to affect the number of bridges. Diabetes and smoking were found to affect the number of the remaining natural teeth. The other variables were not statistically significant. CONCLUSION. Aging is considered to be an important variable affecting the change of oral environment. Among the risk factors, the presence of smoking habit and diabetes is thought to have a great influence on the change of the number of the remaining natural teeth.

  • Extending the lifetime of a nuclear power plant [(hereafter referred to simply as NPP)] is one of the most important concerns in the global nuclear industry. Cables are one of the long-life items that have not been considered for replacement during the design life of a NPP. To extend the cable life beyond the design life, it is first necessary to prove that the design life is too conservative compared with actual aging. Condition monitoring is useful means of evaluating the aging condition of cable. In order to simulate natural aging in a nuclear power plant. a study on accelerated aging must first be conducted. In this paper, evaluations of mechanical aging degradation for a neoprene cable jacket were performed after accelerated aging under tcontinuous and intermittent heating conditions. Contrary to general expectations, intermittent heating to the neoprene cable jacket showed low aging degradation, 50% break-elongation, and 60% indenter modulus, compared with continuous heating. With a plant maintenance period of 1 month after every 12 or 18 months operation, we can easily deduce that the life time of the cable jacket of neoprene can be extended much longer than extimated through the general EQ test. which adopts continuous accelerated aging for determining cable life. Therefore, a systematic approach that considers the actual environment conditions of the nuclear power plant is required for determining cable life.

  • Purpose: Aging process comes with cognitive impairment due to decreased neuronal cell number, activity, and neuronal circuit. Alteration of inhibitory neurons contributes to cognitive impairment in normal aging and is responsible for disrupting the excitation/inhibition balance by reducing the synthesis of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Morus nigra (Mulberry) is a natural physiologically active substance that has been proven to have anti-oxidant, anti-diabetic, and anti-inflammatory effects through many studies. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the mulberry extract (ME) on cognitive function through anti-oxidant enzyme and GABAergic neuronal activity in aged rat brain. Methods: Sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigned as the young group (8 weeks, n= 8), aging group (67 weeks, n= 8), and aging+ mulberry extract group (67 weeks, n= 8). The aging+ mulberry extract group was orally administered 500 mg/kg/d mulberry extract for 6 weeks. Results: The aging+ mulberry extract group improved spatial and short-term memory. The antioxidant potential of ME increased the expression of superoxide dismutase-1 (SOD-1) and decreased inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). Also, the aging+ mulberry extract group significantly increased the expression of GABAergic interneuron in hippocampus cornu ammonis1 (CA1) compared to the aging group. Conclusion: The number of GABAergic inhibitory interneurons was deceased and memory functions in the aging process, but those symptoms were improved and restored by mulberry extract administration.

  • Human body ages differently due to environmental, genetic and pathological factors. DNA methylation patterns also differs depending on various factors such as aging and several other diseases. The aging clock model, which uses these differences to predict age, analyzes DNA methylation patterns, recognizes age-specific patterns, predicts age, and grasps the speed and degree of aging. Aging occurs in everyone and causes various problems such as deterioration of physical ability and complications. Alzheimer's disease is a disease associated with aging and the most common brain degenerative disease. This disease causes various cognitive functions disabilities such as dementia and impaired judgment to motor functions, making daily life impossible. It has been reported that the incidence and progression of this disease increase with aging, and that increased phosphorylation of Aβ and tau proteins, which are overexpressed in this disease and accelerates epigenetic aging. It has also been reported that DNA methylation is significantly increased in the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex of Alzheimer's disease patients. Therefore, we calculated the biological age using the Epi clock, a pan-tissue aging clock model, and confirmed that the epigenetic age of patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease is lower than their actual age. Also, it was confirmed to slow down aging.

  • Focusing on quality problems of delayed chilling porcine muscle, the effects of delayed chilling and aging on the contents of ATP-related compounds and taste of pork were investigated. Twelve Landrace pigs were employed and bisected: left sides were delay-chilled(DC) at room temperature($20^{\circ}C$) for 3 hrs, whereas right sides were conventionally chilled(CC). ATP-related compounds tested were adenosine triphosphate(ATP) and its derivatives in pork muscle, inosine monophosphate(IMP), guanosine monophosphate(GMP) and L-glutamate in cooked broth. DC sides showed more rapid pH decline and degradation of nucleotides than did CC sides. The levels of ATP and adenosine monophosphate(AMP) were not changed significantly. However, adenosine diphosphate(ADP) and IMP showed the highest levels at the 1st and 5th day, respectively. Hypoxanthine(Hx) was gradually increased(p<0.05) during aging. During aging, the IMP contents cooked broth tended to decrease, while the GMP and L-glutamate contents increase. As a result of these, the taste score got better and finally the results of sensory evaluation became increased(p<0.05). However, compared to CC sides, DC sides did not seem to lower taste of pork.

  • In this study, 13 water soluble polymers(6 natural polymer, 7 synthetic polymer) were treated on Hanji. Mechanical properties, morphology and oxidation index with thermal aging were measured on the aged Hanji, dewaxed Hanji and polymer treated Hanji. 3 natural polymer(such as CMC, EC, MC) and 3 synthetic polymers(such as PVA 1500, 2000, PEG 1500) treated Hanji had higher strength than other polymer treated Hanji. The oxidation index of 3% methyl cellulose solution treated Hanji did a little increase with thermal aging. Finally, methyl cellulose was found to be the most efficient method for strengthening the dewaxed Hanji. The best aging safety and thermal stability were obtained at the methyl cellulose 3% water solution.
