Effects of Children's Interests in Mothers' Native Culture and Use of Mother's Native Language on Mother-Child Relationship Satisfaction in Multi-Cultural Families (다문화 가족 자녀의 어머니 출신국가에 대한 관심 및 어머니 국가의 언어 구사능력이 자녀와 어머니의 관계 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper examined the effects of children's interests and attitudes toward mother's native culture and use of mother's native language on satisfaction of the mother-child relationship in multi-cultural families. Data from the 2012 National Survey of Multi-cultural Families demonstrate that for children aged between 9 and 12 years, their fluency and desire to speak well in the mother's native language as well as father's encouragement for using the mother's native language at home were positively associated with satisfaction of the mother-child relationship. For those aged between 13 and 18 years, mother's nationality (i.e. Southeast or South Asia) was negatively related with mother-child relationship satisfaction. Both mother's and children' communication skills, children's interests in mother's native culture, pride for mother being a foreigner, and desire to speak well in the mother's native language were positively associated with mother-child relationship satisfaction. Therefore, there is a need for foreign wives to be educated in Korean language and culture as well as opportunities for children to learn their mother's native culture and language.

  • Busan is an underdeveloped region in food culture, though it has geographically convenient conditions of location to make good use of marine products from the sea and the river, a variety of grain and vegetables, and forest products. Thus, in this research, I studied the traditional and local native foods of Busan, focusing on there origins and the backgrounds of their development. There are many traditional and local native foods in Busan, Pajun, Macguli, Jaechupguk, Gupoguksoo and etc. For the development of food culture of Busan, We will keep researching its traditional and local native foods and try to form a new pattern of food culture, making the adventage of an international trading city.

  • This Paper is the Thesis that Reports Empirical Results on the Effect of Maintaining Behavior of Native Culture on the Job Attitude of Immigrant Labor and the Mediating Effect of Psychological Well-being. In order to Accomplishment this Goal, an Empirical Study was Implemented. The Data for an Empirical Study was Obtained from the Survey on 205 Immigrant Labor from Vietnam in Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do. And Multiple Regression Analysis was Conducted to Examine the Research Hypothesis. The Summary of Empirical Study's Results is Follows. 1) Among Maintaining Behavior of Native Culture, Native Culture-related Media Behavior, Meeting with Native Companions and Persistence of Native Religious Activity have the Positive Effect on the Job Attitude Significantly. 2) Eating Native Food have the Negative Effect on the Job Satisfaction Significantly. 3) There are Mediating Effects of Psychological Well-being on the Relationship Between the Maintaining Behavior of Native Culture and Job Attitudes. Maintaining Behavior of Native Culture has Significant Positive Effect on Job Involvement and Job Satisfaction Indirectly Via Mechanisms Such as the Spillover Effect of Psychological Well-being. That is, The more Immigrant Workers do Maintaining Behavior of Native Culture, the Higher Psychological Well-being is and it Improves Their Job Involvement and Job Satisfaction. The Implication of these Results, the Limitation of this Study and the Direction of Future Study were Suggested.

The Effect of Bilingual Socialization of Mothers from Southeast Asia and Korean Fathers on Adolescents' Attitude toward Mothers' Native Culture and Mother-Adolescent Relationship Satisfaction (동남아출신 어머니와 한국인 아버지의 이중언어사회화가 어머니 출신국 문화에 대한 청소년기 자녀의 태도 및 관계만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • Family environment plays a significant role in adolescent development. Multicultural adolescents in Korea are brought up in a distinctive family environment, where they get to experience two different cultures within their families. Thus, it is important to examine how internal characteristics of the family environment in multicultural families and interactions between family members influence adolescents. The aim of the current study was to examine structural relationships among Southeast Asian mothers' and Korean fathers' bilingual socialization, adolescents' attitude toward mothers' native culture, and mother-adolescent relationship satisfaction. Specifically, the following two questions were addressed in this study: 1) Does bilingual socialization of each parent affect adolescents' attitude toward mothers' native culture? 2) Does children's attitude toward mothers' native culture affect mother-adolescent relationship satisfaction? To answer these questions, the survey data from the '2012 Nationwide Survey of Multicultural Families' was analysed, using SEM. The sample consisted of 318 multicultural adolescents (aged 9-17) living with Korean fathers and immigrant mothers from Southeast Asia. The main findings were as follows. First, Korean fathers' bilingual socialization had a positive effect on immigrant mothers' bilingual socialization. The path from Korean fathers' bilingual socialization to adolescents' attitude toward mothers' native culture was significantly mediated by immigrant mothers' bilingual socialization. Second, adolescents' attitude toward mothers' native culture had a positive effect on mother-adolescent relationship satisfaction. Results suggest that Korean fathers' bilingual socialization is an important factor for bilingual socialization of multicultural adolescents. It is also worth noting that each parent's bilingual socialization helps multicultural adolescents to form a positive identity as a member of multicultural families.

Analysis of Trends in Research on Native Local Foods - Focused on Domestic Thesis - (향토음식 연구경향 분석 - 국내 식품영양학분야 학술지 게재논문을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to systematically analyze relevant research and examine research trends through metaanalysis of 154 theses related to native local foods published in a representative food and nutrition journal. As subject regions, Gyeongsang-do was the most common (70), and especially, Andong had 19 theses. Regarding the research topic, until the early 2000s, most research focused on 'native local foods itself'. After 2005, there was a remarkable increase in research on people's 'perception/use' of native local foods as well as on 'development/application' based on native local foods since 2010. Among theses on native local foods, there was a lot of research on 'quality characteristics' mainly using the quantitative research method, and most research was on desserts. Among theses on perception/use, there were lots of theses on 'awareness, satisfaction, and preference' focusing on questionnaires targeting local residents. Among theses on development/application, the noticeable research trend of 'tourism commercialization of native local foods' was the active development of food and menus using storytelling.

The Effect and Impact of Multi-Platform Native Advertising Content

  • Recently, as social media users have grown, the resulting form of advertising has emerged, and one of the types is native advertising. This advertising method appears to be 52% higher than the banner, according to a study by the IPG Media Lab (2013). Therefore, there is a positive effect on native advertising, but it is necessary to maximize the effect. In this paper, the acceptor's attitude to the native advertisement and the shared intention are verified as to how the effect of the native advertisement can be understood and the maximized effect can be obtained. When the brand phrase was in the form of direct exposure, the subjects were positive about the advertisement and the brand attitude was favorable. Share intentions were also high. These results included suggestions to produce native advertisements in consideration of the attitudes and sharing of the recipients.

A Verification Study on the Strengthening of Recognition of Native Cuisine - with respect to Hadong-Gun Area, Kyungsangnam-Do - (향토음식 인지도에 관한 실증적 연구 - 경남 하동군 지역을 중심으로 -)

  • Rather than focusing on the general recognition of the area and extensive preference about its native cuisine, this study carried out more practical examination on the recognition of the native cuisine by presenting the more detailed introduction of the native cuisine in Hadong area. The findings of this study can be used as basic materials to devise measures for the instillation and advertisement of Hadong area's image, the development and maintenance of its native cuisine benefiting the activation of the local economy, and the reestablishment of Hadong area's native cuisine culture. First, the overall recognition of Hadong area's native cuisine was low and more consumption needs to be boosted by merchandising its foods through the strengthening of recognition. Second, correlation between this area's native cuisine was revealed and tables need to be set and menus need to be organized with this correlation in mind. Basic materials for suggestion sale were garnered. Third, given that most outside tourists visit Hadong by word mouth of all the information sources available, it is highly likely that positive word of mouth through satisfaction with native cuisine will raise the overall recognition of the area. Fourth, precise subdivision market and target market need to be specified. Though the factors like economic costs and the time required cannot be overlooked in strengthening recognition, consistent advertisement to the middle-aged people who are over 40 and live in Kyungsang-Do area will contribute to the fast rise in the recognition of Hadong area's native cuisine, leading to the possibility of economic development in the process.

A Study on College Student's Understanding and Preference of Native Foods in Cheju-Do, Korea (제주도(濟州道) 향토음식(鄕土飮食)에 관(關)한 대학생(大學生)의 인지도(認知度) 및 기호도(嗜好度) 조사연구(調査硏究))

  • The purpose of this study is (1) to develop native foods in the future continuosly, and (2) to provide basic information allowing college student's to correctly understand traditional culture, by investigating those college students' preference and understanding of the native foods in Cheju-do. To accomplish these purposes, the survey was carried out by use of questionaires for 344 residing in Cheju-do from 20th to 29th May, 1989. The statistical analysis including frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation was performed by use of SAS program, while the significant difference between groups was examined by $x^2-test$. The results of this study are summarized as follows : 1. It was showed that college man had higher understanding and preference of those native foods than college women. 2. The result relating to age indicated that the more the age, higher understanding and preference. 3. The result by residing areas showed that the college students in the rural area showed higher understanding and preference than students in the urban area. 4. Based on the educational background of those subjects' mothers, it was shown that those college students of mothers having lower educational background had higher understanding and preference of native foods. 5. Those college students having good understanding of native foods accounted for 63.4 percent, while students requiring the continued development of those native foods for 91.0 percent. As a consequence, it is apparent that most subjects tended to show the positive responses to those native foods.

Native Customary Rights: Does It Hold the Future of Sarawak's Natives?

  • This article presents an overview of the Native Customary Rights to forests and its role in protecting the future of native people of Sarawak, Malaysia. The native people have had a long history and strong relationship with their forests. Existing documents and studies have been critically reviewed and analyzed in order to elaborate the Native Customary Rights which are critical to the native people of this region. To have a better understanding on Native Customary Rights, it is important to answer three related questions: (i) Who is a native of Sarawak, (ii) What is 'custom', and (iii) What is the nature of 'rights'? The roles of Native Customary Rights for economic, political or social reasons, operate through informal rules embedded in the natives' customs and traditions. These rules have never been codified into formal laws because the adat system merely functions to manage the human relations which are tied to culture thus making it difficult to codify the culture into laws. It is evident that there are several issues underlying the development of Native Customary Rights: (i) Native Customary Rights are considered as inferiority to those of the State, (ii) the issue of over-shadowing of traditional laws by the colonial rule and the current statutory laws and, (iii) projects and land schemes involving the Native Land. It is understood that the challenges of promoting Native Customary Rights are daunting task; however, the constitutional laws need to carefully revise to provide a better future for the natives.

A Case Study on Storytelling Application of Native Local Foods (향토음식의 스토리텔링 적용 사례연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to present the scheme that can enhance the value of native local foods by analyzing the case into which storytelling is incorporated in order to revitalize native local foods. Towards this end, the cases of native local foods throughout the country were recommended through professional survey and one region among them was finally selected through the field study. The survey on the native local foods was conducted through qualitative study. The four stages of storytelling: the findings of storytelling, the production of storytelling, the experience of storytelling, and sharing of storytelling were analyzed by stage and the contents of the survey by stage were developed. In the findings of story, the origins and background of the main family's foods and food-related stories were derived. The production of stories deals with how to convey the stories of surveyed native local foods to consumers and it presented the stories about the place and food menu. In the experience of storytelling, the physical environment and non-physical environment, in which people visit native local eating houses and experience native local foods were analyzed. Finally, in the sharing of story, how the tourists who have experienced the native local foods make stories and disseminate and share them was analyzed. The significance of this study is that through the storytelling technique it presented the findings, production, experience and sharing of native local foods in the level that can apply to practical business. Although the research is in the stage of inquiry, this study is meaningful in that it presented the basic methodology that can induce the revitalization of the native local food industry through examining the tradition and significance of native local foods that can be found in all the regions of the country.
