In this paper, the feasibility of generating solar power near an abandoned quarry is examined with the objectives of resolving the essential problems that quarries encounter, such as rockfalls and space usage issues. On an abandoned quarry site in Sadang, Seoul, Republic of Korea, two different PV installation methods were analyzed. The first is attaching PV directly on the quarry slope. Since there are no corresponding safety standards and precedents for installing solar panels directly on slopes, the power generation potential was calculated by using topographic data and reasonable assumptions. The surface area of cut slope section was extracted from the Digital Elevation Model(DEM) via ArcGIS and Python programming to calculate the tilt and power capacity of installable panels. The other approach is installing PV as a rockfall barrier, and the power generation potential was analyzed with the assumption that the panel is installed in the direction of facing solar irradiation. For the derivation of power generation, the renewable energy generation analysis program SAM(System Advisor Model) was used for both methods. According to the result, quarries that have terminated resource extraction and remain devastated have the potential to be transformed into renewable energy generation sites.

A form of life is changed rapidly through development of ICT. And we need information ethics as a new norm of information-oriented society. The effect of information ethics can be maximized by education. Therefore, a new curriculum is demanded by new technology and circumstance. Korea Association of Information education has studied a new curriculum and suggested a new plan that contents of information education classified by 'Software', 'Computer System' and 'Convergence Activities' sections. And the 'Convergence Activities' section is composed of 'Information Ethics', 'Productivity Tools' and 'Robot'. In this paper, we studied on learning elements of the 'Information Ethics' of first grade to ninth grade. We analysed the domestic and foreign curriculum, research results and new issues about information ethics and selected the learning elements about information ethics. We nextly suggested the achievement goals, teaching-learning methods and evaluation methods of information ethics. We expect that the learning elements we suggested about information ethics will contribute to deal with wisely information dysfunction and to training correct talented individuals.
Until now, the Korean archeological community has only been able to introduce the findings of classical archaeology developed in the West, and it also suffers from a lack of concepts and academic achievements. The domestic archeological community also started to develop later than that of the West, when it began to analyze ancient history and relics through the classic works of history titled Samguk sagi (三國史記) and Samguk yusa (三國遺事). Furthermore, it is actively utilizing the Chinese classics, such as the Samgukji (三國志) and Huhanseo (後漢書), as well as certain Japanese classics such as Ilbonsegi (日本書紀). Due to the total lack of domestic classics, however, there are few details about the formation of ancient polities, national changes, and inter-country negotiations and exchanges, as well as numerous other unresolved issues. This study raises the need to revamp classical archaeology in order to solve these problems. The concept of classical means 'all records made in the past' in the shallow sense, while the meaning of the historiography means "historical records according to the taxonomy of the old book." Classical archaeology is a field in which the classics are analyzed and interpreted so as to study the culture of the past. This section has set up a wide range of classical categories, and has found that the classics can be used in a meaningful way in classical archaeology through the use of the Gongjagae (孔子家語). The use of the classics in classical archaeology could produce significant results if the relevant DB is managed by various institutions and organizations using proper techniques of analysis including big data analysis.
The present study examined the accuracy of polygraph tests through two types of statistical methods with unknown ground truth. One method evaluated the accuracy based on the rates of agreements between polygraph test results of crime suspects and prosecutors' indictment decisions for them. Those crime suspects were tested with polygraph by the Prosecutors' Office of the Republic of Korea between 2000 and 2004. The other method estimated the accuracy by using the latent class analysis based on the frequency distributions of the polygraph results and indictments during 2006. Excluding cases that were 'inconclusive' on the polygraph test, the study showed that the accuracy of the polygraph tests is .914 (SE=.004) for the 2000-2004 data, and .885 (SE=.021) for the 2006 data. With the inclusion of 'inconclusive' cases in the 2006 data, the results from the latent class analysis showed the accuracy in the range between .707 and .734 (SE=.027~.031), with false positives between .078 and .087 (SE=.019~.023), and false negatives between .029 and .078 (SE=.010~.023). The probability that the polygraph test correctly classifies subjects appeared to be in the range between .912 and .925 (SE=.013-.016) for those who lie, and in the range between .867 to .955 (SE=.011-.040) for those who tell the truth.

The grassland section of the greenhouse gas inventory has limitations due to a lack of review and verification of biomass compared to organic carbon in soil while grassland is considered one of the carbon storages in terrestrial ecosystems. Considering the situation at internal and external where the calculation of greenhouse gas inventory is being upgraded to a method with higher scientific accuracy, research on standards and methods for calculating carbon accumulation of grassland biomass is required. The purpose of this study was to identify international trends in the calculation method of the grassland biomass sector that meets the Tier 2 method and to conduct a review of variables applicable to the Republic of Korea. Identify the estimation methods and access levels for grassland biomass through the National Inventory Report in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and type the main implications derived from overseas cases. And, a field survey was conducted on 28 grasslands in the Republic of Korea to analyse the applicability of major issues. Four major international issues regarding grassland biomass were identified. 1) country-specific coefficients by land use; 2) calculations on woody plants; 3) loss and recovery due to wildfire; 4) amount of change by human activities. As a result of field surveys and analysis of activity data available domestically, it was found that there was a significant difference in the amount of carbon in biomass according to use type classification and climate zone-soil type classification. Therefore, in order to create an inventory of grassland biomass at the Tier 2 level, a policy and institutional system for making activity data should develop country-specific coefficients for climate zones and soil types.
The purposes of this paper are twofold: First, to discuss ways and limits of studying politics scientifically; second, to examine group theories to the study of political science. To answer the first question, I examine philosophy of science, methods of scientific research, and limits of scientific study of politics. As a subject matter itself, political science involves the study of human beings and the discovery of explanations for the political behavior that they exhibit. This discovery of regularities of behavior in politics inevitably requires that human beings act consistently or discoverable manner. I argue that the best way of studying politics as much as possible is to combine traditional and scientific approaches depending upon issues, The second section of this paper will examine one of important middle-range theory of politics; group theories (approaches). Examining this will show strength and limits of studying politics scientifically. The group approaches examine the importance of role that people hold in the political system as well as the relationship between the action of collective group and its impact on the political behavior. Overall, the group approaches tend to deal with individuals in specific societal contexts and with varying distributions of power between the actors. This group approaches are premised on the belief that political activity involves more than just one individual, political activity occurs instead through individual actors in particular settings. I argued that group theories have some explanatory power and descriptive richness, though it has limitations.
RFID is an automatic identification technology that can control a range of information via IC chips and radio communication. Also known as electronic tags, smart tags or electronic labels, RFID technology enables embedding the overall process from production to sales in an ultra-small IC chip and tracking down such information using radio frequencies. Currently, RFID-based application and development is in progress in such fields as health care, national defense, logistics and security. RFID structure consists of a reader that reads tag information, a tag that provides information and the database that manages data. Yet, the wireless section between the reader and the tag is vulnerable to security issues. To sort out the vulnerability, studies on security protocols have been conducted actively. However, due to difficulties in implementation, most suggestions are concerned with theorem proving, which is prone to vulnerability found by other investigators later on, ending up in many troubles with applicability in practice. To experimentally test the security of the protocol proposed here, the formal verification tool, CasperFDR was used. To sum up, the proposed protocol was found to be secure against diverse attacks. That is, the proposed protocol meets the safety standard against new types of attacks and ensures security when applied to real tags in the future.

In general, the criminal responsibility of seaman should always be directly assumed by the seamen, according to the principle of self-incrimination. Therefore, the only possible countermeasures for the criminal responsibility of seamen may be to reduce the responsibility by using criminal procedures (ex. the warrant substance examination system, the review system of legality for confinement as much as possible. Another possibility is to reduce the penalty through the revision of the law. In detail, concerning the problem of fine, the maximum fine for oil spill accidents by criminal negligence is KRW 30,000,000 under the current Ocean Pollution Prevention Act, and when an oil spill occurs, the maximum fine tends to be levied regardless of the amount of the spilled oil; thus, it is judged that grading the fine according to the amount of spilled oil may be worth considering. Regarding P & I's payment of fine, contrary to general belief, it is only possible to make up the loss when P & I takes up the legal responsibility or acknowledges its payment. In order to solve the problem, it is possible to consider the option of introducing new collective insurance program or mutual aid system. Also, as seamen are not specialists in legal issues, the ship owners' association or the marine afficers' association need to develop some program through which they can receive systematic assistance from legal specialists including lawyers when they encounter any legal problems (ex. free legal aid programs for farmers and fishermen). Finally, it may be possible to establish enact new laws or revise the existing Act on Special cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents to insert a new section on marine accidents.

Reinforced concrete structures are exposed to various environments, resulting in reinforcement corrosion due to moisture and ions penetration. Reinforced concrete corrosion causes a decrease in the durability performance of reinforced concrete structures. One solution to mitigate such issues is using FRP rebars, which offer several advantages such as high tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and light-weight than conventional rebars, in reinforced concrete instead of conventional steel rebars. The FRP rebar used should be examined at the limit state because FRP reinforced concrete has linear behavior until its fracture and can generate excessive deflection due to the low elastic modulus. It should be considered while designing FRP reinforced concrete for flexure. In the ultimate limit state, the flexural strength of FRP reinforced concrete as per ACI 440.1R is significantly lower than the flexural strength by applying both the environmental reduction and strength reduction factors accounting for the material uncertainty of FRP rebar. Therefore, in this study, the experimental results were compared with the deflection of the proposed effective moment of inertia referring to the local and international standards. The experimental results of GFRP and BFRP reinforced concrete were compared with the flexural strength as determined by ACI 440.1R and Fib bulletin 40. The flexural strength obtained by the experimental results was more similar to that obtained by Fib bulletin 40 than ACI 440.1R. The flexural strength of ACI 440.1R was conservatively evaluated in the tension-controlled section.

The purpose of this study was to develope issue-centered teaching learning process plan for environment-friendly housing education and to apply it to the housing section of Technology Home Economics in a middle school. PRO-CON cooperative group model was used for the teaching learning process plans of 2-session lessons according to the ADDIE model. In the development stage, 7 activity materials and 20 teaching learning materials (4 reading texts, 12 pictures and photos, & 5 moving pictures) were developed for 2-session lessons. The plans applied to the 7 classes, 222 students, in the third grade of the G middle school in Gyeonggi-do during July 10th-17th, 2008. The results showed that the final pro-con was influenced by the rationals of juries' pro-con of each team and the representative's discussion besides one's environmental perspective. The intention to implement environment-friendly housing activities was significantly increased between before and after the lessons. The contents, methods, goals, and process of the 2-session lessons were evaluated over medium to somewhat higher levels. Those evaluations except methods and general satisfaction with the lessons were differed by sex, students' and their families' interests in environments but not by the type of housing. These results might support that pro-con cooperative group model of controversial issues on parking lot would be appropriate to environment-friendly housing lessons and could apply to broad issues on housing and various schools in other areas.
