A study on comparing response times between Wibro and wired internet using portals (포털을 이용한 와이브로와 유선인터넷 응답속도 비교에 관한 연구)

  • The object of study is to compare the response times between WiBro and wired internet in terms of users. We conducted experiments using six portal sites such as Naver, Daum, Google, Paran, Nate, and Yahoo. Because we could not receive all signal levels of WiBro at the same palace, we compared WiBro levels 1~3 and wired internet. We verified wired internet is significantly the fastest among wired internet and than WiBro levels 1~3. We could not find which level is the fastest among WiBro levels 1~3. On average, wired internet is faster than WiBro level 1, 2 and 3 about 5.05, 4.20, and 4.14 times, respectively. In addition to comparing WiBro levels 4~5 and wired internet, more researches on accelerating the response times are needed.

Systematic Evaluation on the Quantitative and Qualitative Aspects of Korean Nutrition Education Websites (우리나라 영양교육 관련 웹 사이트의 양적 및 질적 현황 평가)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the quantitative and qualitative aspects of Korean websites related to nutrition education. A total of 30 websites were ultimately selected through 4 major Internet search engines, including Naver, Yahoo, Daum, and Nate, using several key words (i.e., nutrition education, dietary life education, nutrition information, nutrition management, etc.). A systematic review was conducted for each of the selected websites based on the American Library Association (ALA) website checklist and a data abstract form that was adapted from a previous study. Approximately two thirds of the websites were established between 2002 and 2005, and 46.6% were administrated by public health centers or schools/colleges. The most frequently targeted group was the generally healthy population (30.0%). Among the various topics of nutrition information provided, “balanced diet” was the topic most often provided by the websites. Also, an increasing trend for utilizing multimedia tools was observed; however, little technical support or instruction was provided by the websites. Only 50.0% and 63.3% of the sites clearly stated their operators and sources of provided information, respectively. Overall, the purposes of sites were clearly stated, and were not overshadowed by advertising. And most features of design, stability, and content were found to be appropriate, but several aspects, such as establishing a help/FAQ menu, regularly updating nutrition information, and converting provided information into a database for easier search and update, needed improvement. In addition, active operational strategies are greatly needed to encourage the application of materials found on sites into real educational settings.

  • The purpose of this study is to how certain types of leadership of food and beverage employees in the super deluxe hotels in Seoul significantly affect self-efficacy, organizational efficacy and organizational effectiveness. The model was tested using SPSS 12.0 and AMOS 5.0 on a sample of 222 respondents with 74% of a usable response nate. The result of ANCOVA indicates idealized influence, individualized consideration and intellectual stimulation, which are the characteristics of transformational leaders, significantly and positively influence the organizational-efficacy, job satisfaction and organizational commitment Individualized consideration and intellectual stimulation significantly influence self-efficacy. Self-efficacy significantly influence. Organizational efficacy, and it also indirectly influence organizational commitment through job satisfaction. Organizational efficacy bas a significant relationship with organizational commitment through job satisfaction while it doesn't have a direct effect on organizational commitment.

  • The increase of Internet users and services has caused the upsurge of data traffic over the network. Nowadays, variety of Internet applications has emerged which generates complicated and diverse data traffic. For the efficient management of Internet traffic, many traffic classification methods have been proposed. But most of the methods focused on the application-level classification, not the function-level classification or state changes of applications. The functional classification of application traffic makes possible the in-detail understanding of application behavior as well as the fine-grained control of applications traffic. In this paper we proposed automata based functional classification method of IM application traffic. We verified the feasibility of the proposed method with function-level control experiment of IM application traffic.

Pragmatics and Translation in the Use of English Words in Banner Advertising on Portal Sites

  • In modern socity, online communication plays a vital role in social interaction of communicities. It is so common for online users to see display advertisements online while surting the Net. Specifically, most web banners diaplayed on portral sites consist of words, phrase, and sentences. Considering that the primary purpose of adversiting is persuation, the advertisement such as web banners is an examplary case to show the interaction among pragmatics, translation and advertising because the linguistic expressions employed in the banners represent its pragmatic use, leading to persuation and functioning as a communicative tool for the smooth communication between source text producers (adversisers) and target audience (online users). This can be part of the so-called translation process. In particular, we can easily witness the use of English words in web banners. Thus, this paper looks at web banners displayed on major four portal sites-Naver, Daum, Nate, and Zum, giving a special attention to the content contained in the web banners as well as the use of English words. As s result, we found that the frequencies of English words in each portal site were higher when the advertised products were targeting young online users, whereas the frequencies were lower when the users are older group than young people. The finding supports the prgramatic perspective that linguistic expressions are understood in social contexts and shows the so-called translation process which involves a shift from semantic meaning of words to their pragmatic use. Finally, we can conclude that the interaction is possible when we have the framework where translation, pragmatics, and advertising are all communitative components for social interaction within social contexts.

'Hot Search Keyword' Rank-Change Prediction (인기 검색어의 순위 변화 예측)

  • The service, 'Hot Search Keywords', provides a list of the most hot search terms of different web services such as Naver or Daum. The service, bases the changes in rank of a specific search keyword on changes in its users' interest. This paper introduces a temporal modelling framework for predicting the rank change of hot search keywords using past rank data and machine learning. Past rank data shows that more than 70% of hot search keywords tend to disappear and reappear later. The authors processed missing rank value, using deletion, dummy variables, mean substitution, and expectation maximization. It is however crucial to calculate the optimal window size of the past rank data. We proposed an optimal window size selection approach based on the minimum amount of time a topic within the same or a differing context disappeared. The experiments were conducted with four different machine-learning techniques using the Naver, Daum, and Nate 'Hot Search Keywords' datasets, which were collected for 2 years.

  • Thermoplastic starch (TPS) was manufactured and blended with poly(butylene adipate-co-succinate) (PBAS), which is one of the most popular biodegradable aliphatic polyesters. The effects of the TPS contents on the mechanical properties, thermal characteristics, and biodegradability of PBAS/TPS blends were investigated. The foaming characteristics of those were also studied. With small amount of TPS, mechanical properties of the blends were largely deteriorated and the variations of them decreased with more addition of TPS. In addition, TPS decreased crystallinity and thermal decomposition temperature of PBAS. The PBAS/TPS foam having maximum blowing ratio was obtained with 20 Phr of TPS, and their blowing ratio decreased with the further increase of TPS.

Implementation of B2B order and delivery system using UML, and XML (UML과 XML을 이용한 B2B 수주ㆍ발주 시스템 구현)

  • This study is based on user requirements before the implementation of B2B order and delivery systems. For accurate and easy understanding of the user's requirements I have expressed my specifications in graphical method and to make use of multiple diagrams, I have used UML. In these specifications, I have implemented B2B order and delivery systems with the use of XML, with company 'N' which is domestic aluminum manufacturer as the study object. The results of this study are as follows. First, both a developer and a user can understand the problems associated with specifying study objects through this system. Second, the communication between developers and users is more effective using this system. Third programming became easier because or the formalized specifications of this system. Fourth, this system facilitates the rapid handling of marketing department and stock management. Fifth, order and reservation management became more rapid and accurate through the use of this system. Sixth, this system can help nate B2B order and delivery systems that can be direct transactions. Seventh, this system helps to reduce purchasing costs by allowing for the rapid and simple order and delivery of raw materials. Finally, this study emphasized the advertising effect of an aluminum vessel.

Characteristics of Copper and Cadmium Partitioning in Aquatic Sediment (수계내 저질에 대한 구리 및 카드뮴의 분배 특성)

  • Selective extraction procedure has been used to quantify copper and cadmium In association with the various phases of aquatic sediment such as exchangeable/adsorbed, carbonate, manganese oxides, organic matter and iron oxides. Changes of pH influenced on the partitioning of copper in carbonate and exchangeable/ad- sorbed phases and of cadmium in carbonate phase of aquatic sediment. Addition of NTA and EDTA, copper and cadmium associated with carbonate phase were released from sediment to water. Total partitioning coefficient was 8.361 for copper and 0.497 for cadmium. The relative binding strengths of copper and cadmium to each solid phase can be ranked by using the partitioning coefficints. For copper it was observed that carbonate > organic matter > exchangeable/adsorbed > manganese oxides > iron oxides and for cadmiunm it was observed that exchangeable/adsorbed > carbonate > manganese oxides > organic matter > iron oxides.

  • Spill of personal information using a stolen ID and password that recently occurred in large enterprises and portal web site such as Nate, Auction, National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, suggesting the importance of protecting personal information. By managing access to user accounts in real time, users will be able to block access before personal information is leaked. Therefore, In this paper, we propose a method to prevent spill of personal information that may occur when connected to others by using an authorized ID and password from portals. Specifically, we offer a mobile status control app that controls the logged status of user account in real time to view login status information to user by visualization and information about specific time and IP address. Also, we propose a method for detecting and blocking duplicated login that connect via IP address change.
