  • Although Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW or TIG welding) is considered as high quality and precision welding process, it also has demerit of low melting rate. Narrow-gap TIG welding which has narrow joint width reduces the groove volume remarkably, so it could be shorten the welding time and decrease the overall shrinkage in heavy wall pipe welding. Generally Narrow-gap TIG welding is used as orbital welding process, it is important to select the optimum conditions for the automatic control welding This paper looks at the application and metallurgical properties on Narrow-gap TIG welding joint of heavy wall large austenitic stainless steel pipe to determine the deposition efficiency, the resultant shrinkage and fracture toughness. The fracture toughness depends slightly on the welding heat input.

A Circularly Polarized Waveguide Narrow-wall Slot Array using a Single Layer Polarization Converter

  • This paper describes the characteristics of a one dimensional narrow-wall slotted waveguide array with a single-layer linear-to-circular polarization converter consisting of a dipole array. An external boundary value Problem of one slot and three dipoles, which approximates the mutual coupling between the dipole array and an edge slot extending over three faces of a rectangular waveguide, is formulated and analyzed by the method of moments; design of polarization conversion is conducted for this model as a unit element. If every unit element has perfect circular polarization, grating lobes appear in the array pattern due to the alternating slot angle: these are suppressed in this paper by changing the dipole angle and degrading the axial ratio of the unit element. The validity of the design is confirmed by the measurements. The dipole array has negligible effects upon slot impedance; the polarization conversion for existing narrow-wall slotted arrays is realized by add-on dipole array.

좁은 자벽의 두께에 강자성층의 두께가 미치는 영향 (Effect of a Ferromagnetic Layer Thickness on a Narrow Domain Wall Width)

  • Micromagnetics 전산 모사를 이용하여 국소적 층간교환상호작용이 있는 강자성/비자성/강자성 다층박막 구조에서 Bloch 자벽이나 Neel 자벽보다 더 얇은 두께의 자벽이 인위적으로 형성될 수 있음을 보였고, 이때 생성된 좁은 자벽의 두께가 강자성층의 두께에 의해 영향을 받음을 보였다. 국소적 층간교환상호작용을 가진 $Fe_1/Cr/Fe_2$ 구조에서 좁은 자벽이 생성됨을 보였고, $Fe_2$ 층의 두께를 20nm로 고정시키고 $Fe_1$층의 두께를 각각 1, 2, 4, 6nm으로 변화시켜가며 전산 모사를 수행하여 $Fe_1$ 층의 두께가 감소함에 따라 자벽의 두께가 얇아짐을 확인하였다.

세폭소거 펄스 방식을 적용한 AC PDP에서의 동특성 전압 마진 (Dynamic Voltage Margin of AC PDP with the Narrow Erase Pulse Method)

  • This paper proposes the new narrow erase method to erase wall charges formed in an AC plasma display panel (PDP) cell. In the proposed method, pulse timing of switch at the sustain period is adjusted for inducing, a weak discharge. Then, after the narrow erase, the voltage of the X electrode is set to differ from that of the Y electrode. For the proposed method, the measured maximum address voltage margin was 38.3V at Y_Rest voltage of 100V and sustain voltage of 180${\sim}$185V. However, for the conventional method, in which the X and Y electrodes are set to be of equal voltage after the narrow erase, the measured maximum address voltage margin was 31.3V at Y_Rest voltage of 150V and sustain voltage of 180V. This result shows that the measured maximum voltage margin for the proposed method is about 7V(22%) higher than that for the conventional method.

좁은 간격의 두 벽면 사이에서의 메탄-공기 예혼합 화염 전파에 벽면 상태가 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Wall Condition on the Methane-air Premixed Flame Propagation between Narrow Two Walls)

  • Quenching phenomena is one of major concern in development of millimeter or sub-millimeter scale micro combustor for the size of the combustor is near extinction condition. In this work we focused on the effect of combustor wall condition that was parameterized by Perovskite LSC($La_{0.8}$$Sr_{0.2}$$CoO_3$) redox catalyst. The experiment was done by variable gap-width 2D wall equipment. The flame was produced by premixed methane-air jet issuing from millimeter-scale slot burner and it propagated through the narrow gap of the walls. By comparison of flame behaviour near catalyst-coated wall and simple glass wall, we investigated the effect of possible surface reaction on quenching phenomena. The flame between two plates was observed where the gap of the plates was reduced stepwise from 20mm to a distance of quenching occurrence. The two flames with and without surface modification were almost same by observation. But the gap for the occurrence of quenching was increased between catalyst-coated wall. So we concluded that surface reaction close to combustor wall has a negative effect on micro combustion.

회체가스중합법에 의한 수증기의 파장별 복사물성치 모델에 관한 연구 (A study on the wsggm-based spectral modeling of radiation properties of water vapor)

  • 각종 노(furnace)를 포함하여 보일러, 가스터빈, 우주선 추진기구, 원자로 및 연료전지 등 고온이 열전달 문제를 다루는데 있어서 복사 열전달 연구는 매우 중요하다. 이러한 복사열전달에 대한 연구동향은 최근 복사 물성치(특히 가스에서의)를 예측하기 위한 이론 모델의 개발 및 측정분야와 복사전달 방정식의 해를 비교적 간단하게 구하기 위한 근사해법에 대한 연구로 크게 대별되고 있다. 이러한 두가지 연구방햐은 완전히 분리, 독립되어 있는 것은 아니며 서로 많은 연관성을 가지고 있다. 특히, 비회체가스(nongray gas)의 복사 성질에 대한 모델링은 근사 해법의 계산결과에 큰 영향을 미치게 되므로 가스의 복사 성질의 예측은 매우 중요한 연구 과제가 된고 있다. a Low resolution spectral modeling of water vapor is carried out by applying the weighted-sum-of-gray-gases model (WSGGM) to a narrow band. For a given narrow band, focus is placed on proper modeling of gray gas absorption coefficients vs. temeprature relation used for any solution methods for the Radiative Transfer Equation(RTE). Comparison between the modeled emissivity and the "true" emissivity obtained from a high temperatue statistical narrow band parameters is made ofr the total spectrum as well as for a few typical narrow bands. Application of the model to nonuniform gas layers is also made. Low resolution spectral intensities at the boundary are obtained for uniform, parabolic and boundary layer type temeprature profiles using the obtained for uniform, parabolic and boundary layer type temperature profiles using the obtained WSGGM's with 9 gray gases. The results are compared with the narrow band spectral intensities as obtained by a narrow band model-based code with the Curtis-Godson approximation. Good agreement is found between them. Local heat source strength and total wall heat flux are also compared for the cases of Kim et al, which again gives promising agreement.

Narrow Gap 맞대기 TIG 용접에서 생산성 향상을 위한 연구 (A Study on Productivity Improvement in Narrow Gap TIG Welding)

  • Adoption of narrow gap welding shall be increased for the butt joint of thick plate, because the deformation and welding cost is reduced by decrease of cross-sectional area. However, sometimes narrow gap causes defects such as lack of fusion since it has small groove angle and narrow groove width. Therefore, GMAW, GTAW and SAW process shall be adopted to narrow gap welding with small bead hight and low deposition rate. In this study, Super-TIG welding using C-type strip was applied to semi-narrow gap butt joint in order to increase the welding productivity. High deposition rate 10kg/hr was obtained by high current 600A without undercut, humping bead and other welding defects. Measuring the mean and standard deviation of the melting depth to evaluate the developed processes, the fusion line type was determined by measuring the difference between maximum and minium melting depth. Furthermore, a model on arch fusion line and linear fusion line was suggested in order to prevent LF on groove wall in narrow gap butt welding.

수직통로를 극복하기 위한 협소구역 이동용 다관절 로봇 설계 (Design of Articulated Mobile Robot to Overcome Vertical Passages in Narrow Space)

  • The robot to search and rescue is used in narrow space where human cannot approach. In case of this robot, it can overcome obstacles such as wrecks or stairs etc. Also, this robot can do various locomotion for each object. In this reason, an articulated robot has advantages comparing with one module robot. However, the existing articulated robot has limits to overcome vertical passages. For expanding contacted territory of robot, a novel mechanism is demanded. In this paper, the novel mechanism of articulated mobile robot is designed for moving level ground and vertical passages. This paper proposes to change wheel alignment. The robot needs two important motions for passing vertical passages like pipe. One is a motion to press wheels at wall for not falling into gravity direction. The other is a motion that wheels contact a vertical direction of wall's tangential direction for reducing loss of force. The mechanism of the robot focused that two motions can be acted to use just one motor. Length of each link of robot is optimized that wheels contact a vertical direction of wall's tangential direction through kinematic modeling of each link. The force of pressing wall of robot is calculated through dynamic modeling. This robot composes four modules. This mechanism is confirmed by dynamic simulation using ADAMS program. The articulated mobile robot is elaborated based on the results of kinematic modeling and dynamic simulation.
