  • A novel ultra-narrow linewidth DFB laser in the extended FBG ring cavity having kHz linewidth is presented. The method of linewidth compression was realized by introducing an extended fiber ring cavity into the cavity between the external FBG and the Bragg grating inside a DFB laser diode. Optimum optical feedback control was achieved by using an optical circulator and a variable optical attenuator to prevent mode hopping induced by spatial hole burning. To prove the validity of the proposed scheme, a self-heterodyne measurement set-up with fiber delay line of 63 km was utilized for the ultra-narrow linewidth measurement. A 3 dB linewidth of less than 3 kHz was demonstrated, which is resolution limited performance. This linewidth is equivalent to 3 dB linewidth of 2$\times$10$^{-8}$ nm.

  • A novel ultra-narrow linewidth single longtudinal mode DFB semiconductor laser in the extended FBG cavity is proposed. The 3㏈ linewidth of 20KHz was demonstrated by using self-heterodyne measurement set-up with a fiber delay line of 63km. And this linewidth was further compressed to less than 3KHz, which is resolution limited performance, by inserting E $r^{+3}$ doped fiber saturable absorber. This is equivalent to 3㏈ linewidth of 2$\times$10$^{-8}$ nm.

  • Amplified pulsed laser beam with narrow linewidth was generated from CW laser beam with narrow linewidth by using frequency doubled Nd:YAG laser beam and Bethune cell. The degree of the frequency chirping of the amplified pulse laser was measured by using the heterodyne method and obtained by calculating instantaneous phase change from heterodyne beating signals. The frequency chirping of amplified pulsed laser beam from CW laser beam with sub-MHz linewidth by 10 ns pulse was 80 MHz so that pulsed laser beam with very narrow linewidth was obtained.

  • We present a Yb-doped narrow-linewidth polarization-maintaining all-fiber amplifier that achieves a high mode-instability (MI) threshold, high output power, and 9.7-GHz spectral linewidth. Six wavelength-multiplexed laser diodes are used to pump this amplifier. First, we construct a high-power fiber amplifier based on a master oscillator-power amplifier configuration for experiments. Subsequently, we examine the MI threshold by individually pumping the amplifier with wavelengths of 976, 974, 981, 974, and 981 nm respectively. The experimental results demonstrate that the amplifier exhibits a high MI threshold (>3.5 kW) when pumped with a combination of wavelengths at 974 and 981 nm. Afterward, we inject an optimized phase-modulated seed with a nearly flat-top spectrum into this amplifier. Ultimately, laser output of 3.2 kW and 9.7 GHz are obtained.

  • We describe a simple method for obtaining a narrow dip with subnatural linewidth in Doppler-free laser spectroscopy. The method is based on detecting the absolute magnitude, |Re[$\chi$NL($\omega$-$\omega$o)]|, of the dispersive component (real part) of the nonlinear susceptibility induced by the pump beam, and the line shape recorded therefore exhibits a fully resolved technique and a dual phase lock-in amplifier, we have demonstrated the dip as narrow as 3 MHz in the laser-induced birefringence spectrum of the Na D1 line (natural linewidth 10 MHz). Possible spectroscopic applications are considered.

  • A fiber spool with ultra-low vibration sensitivity has been demonstrated for the ultra-narrow-linewidth fiber-stabilized laser by the multi-object orthogonal experimental design method, which can achieve the optimization object and analysis of influence levels without extensive computation. According to a test of 4 levels and 4 factors, an L16 (44) orthogonal table is established to design orthogonal experiments. The vibration sensitivities along the axial and radial directions and the normalized sums of the vibration sensitivities are determined as single objects and comprehensive objects, respectively. We adopt the range analysis of object values to obtain the influence levels of the four design parameters on the single objects and the comprehensive object. The optimal parameter combinations are determined by both methods of comprehensive balance and evaluation. Based on the corresponding fractional frequency stability of ultra-narrow-linewidth fiber-stabilized lasers, we obtain the final optimal parameter combination A3B1C2D1, which can achieve the fiber spool with vibration sensitivities of 10-12/g magnitude. This work is the first time to use an orthogonal experimental design method to optimize the vibration sensitivities of fiber spools, providing an approach to design the fiber spool with ultra-low vibration sensitivity.

  • We measured the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) signal using the monodisperse iron oxide nanoparticles with size D=4.67 nm, 5.64 nm and 6.34 nm synthesized by using the thermal decomposition method, respectively. The measured ferromagnetic resonance signals were compared with the calculated ones for superparamagnetic nanoparticles with lognormal volume distribution. The FMR linewidth broadening was propositional to tanh($V^2$), where V was volume of nanoparticles. The narrow linewidth of small size nanoparticles was due to the surface spins, while the broad linewidth of large size nanoparticles was due to the bulk spins affected by the crystalline structure of iron oxide nanoparticles. The superposition of surface and bulk effect was confirmed at D=5.64 nm nanoparticles, which was near the critical size for linewidth transition from surface effect to bulk effect.

  • In this paper, we report on the high power amplification of a narrow-linewidth Yb-doped polarization-maintained (PM) fiber laser in a 3-stage, all-fiber master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) system. The linearly polarized single-mode output power was 400 W with an 85% slope efficiency, with a linewidth of 2.5 GHz (full width at half maximum). Furthermore, mitigation of mode instability (MI) has been demonstrated by tightly coiling the gain fiber to a diameter of 11 cm. In addition, methods for higher power scaling are discussed.

  • Narrowing the spectral linewidth and improving the wavelength stability of high-power laser diodes (HPLDs) are both in high demand for rapidly maturing industrial laser applications. In this study, we investigate the spectral behavior of a commercial HPLD bar module composed of 19 laser diodes (LDs) in a single-layered bar with a built-in volume Bragg grating (VBG) and an additional cascaded VBG. Optical loss due to the extra cascaded VBG is kept below 5% when the optical output is 5 W or more. The full width at half maximum of the Fabry-Perot peak from the cascaded VBG is reduced to about 12.4% and 29.1% at the edge (1st LD) and center (10th LD) of the HPLD bar module respectively, compared to using only a built-in VBG at an optical power of 10 W or more. In addition, fine wavelength tuning is achieved by temperature control of the extra VBG, and the obtained wavelength-tuning range amounts to about 10.6 pm/K.

  • $^{11}B$ nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements have been performed to investigate electronic structures and vortex states of $M_gB_2$ superconductor. The central transition shows a narrow peak down to 25 K at 3.15 T. Below 25 K, an extra line starts to show up and dominates. The extra line is broad and asymmetric with a long tail in the high frequency side, which confirms that this originates from vortex pinning below the irreversibility temperature. From temperature evolution of the fraction and linewidth of the broad portion, temperature dependence of coherence length and penetration depth are extracted.
