  • A CCD camera with a laser stripe was applied to realized the automatic weld seam tracking. The 3-dimensional information obtained from the vision system made it possible to generate the weld torch path. The adaptive Hough transformation was used to extract laser stripes an to obtain specific weld points. It takes relatively long time to process image on-line control using the basic control using the basic Hough transformation, but it has a tendency of robustness over the noises such as spatter. For this reason, it was complemented with adaptive Hough transformation to have an on-line processing ability for scanning specific weld points. The dead zone, where the sensing of weld line is impossible, was eliminated by rotating the camera with its rotating axis centered at the weld torch. When weld lines were detected, the camera angle was controlled in order to get the minimum image data for sensing of weld lines. Consequently, the image processing time was reduced.

  • Twin Auxiliary Electrodes were applied to the counter sustain electrode structure plasma display panels for the improvement of luminous efficiency. In advanced, we investigated the spatiotemporal behaviors of excited $Xe^{\ast\ast}(2p)$ atoms in that structure unit cell with various applied voltage conditions for the auxiliary electrodes. The near-IR emissions were observed by an ICCD camera combined with narrow band pass filter. As a partial result, the intensity of IR emissions and the response time were improved with the proposed twin auxiliary electrodes.

  • In this paper, effective methods of symbol timing in a 9600 bps modem are presented. The symbol timing circuit consists of a square-low device followed by a high-Q narrow band-pass filter tuned to a symbol frequency. Also, the advantages of using a digital phase-tooted loop (DPLL) to suppress side tones are described, and statistical properties of timing wave are derived. In addition, the overall performances of the symbol timing circuit are verified by computer simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient channel delay estimation method for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, especially over doubly-selective fading channels which are selective in both the symbol time domain and subcarrier frequency domain. For the doubly-selective fading channels in single frequency network (SFN), long and strong echoes exist and thus the conventional discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) based channel delay estimation system often fails to produce the exact channel delay profile. Based on the analysis of the discrete-time frequency response of the channel impulse response (CIR) coefficients in the DFT-based channel delay estimation system, we develop a method to effectively extract the true CIR from the aliased signals by employing a simple narrow-band low-pass filter (NB-LPF). The performance of the proposed system is verified using the COST207 TU6 SFN channel model.

  • We have developed a new femtosecond probe technique by using stimulated Raman spectroscopy. The cross phase modulation in femtosecond time scale associated with off-resonant interaction was shown to be eliminated by integrating the transient gain/loss signal over the time delay between the Raman pump pulse and the continuum pulse. The stimulated Raman gain of neat cyclohexane was obtained to demonstrate the feasibility of the technique. Spectral and temporal widths of stimulated Raman spectra were controlled by using a narrow band pass filter. Femtosecond stimulated Raman spectroscopy was proposed as a highly useful probe in time-resolved vibrational spectroscopy.

  • In the present study, an optical system is proposed for maskless lithography using a digital micromirror device (DMD). The system consists of an illumination optical system, a DMD, and a projection lens system. The illumination optical system, developed for 95% uniformity, is composed of fly's eye lens plates, a 405 nm narrow band pass filter (NBPF), condensing lenses, a field lens and a 250W halogen lamp. The projection lens system, composed of 8 optical elements, is developed for 4 ${\mu}m$ resolution. The proposed system plays a role of an optical engine for PCB and/or FPD maskless lithography. Furthermore, many problems arising from the presence of masks in a conventional lithography system, such as expense and time in fabricating the masks, contamination by masks, disposal of masks, and the alignment of masks, may be solved by the proposed system. The proposed system is verified by lithography experiments which produce a line pattern with the resolution of 4 ${\mu}m$ line width.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to improve the performance of the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of a speech source using a multiple signal classification (MUSIC)-based algorithm. Basically, the proposed algorithm utilizes a complex coefficient band pass filter to generate the narrow band signals for signal analysis. Also, reverberation component reduction and quadratic function-based response approximation in MUSIC spatial spectrum are utilized to improve the accuracy of DOA estimation. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the well-known generalized cross-correlation (GCC)-based DOA estimation algorithm in the aspect of the estimation error and success rate, respectively.Abstract should be placed here. • A novel miniaturized 2-pole band pass filter(BPF) is proposed and it has an overlapped hairpin and slot structure on the upper and bottom plane of microstrip lines. Due to the overlapped structure of a hairpin and a slot, the size of the proposed BPF is quite smaller than that of a general BPF having coupled lines. The size of the proposed BPF is reduced to 33 % comparing with the conventional λ/4 coupled BPF. The attenuation is improved by controlling the attenuation poles properly using the proposed structure. The proposed 2-pole BPF is fabricated with a narrow bandwidth(69 ㎒) at center frequency, 1.9 ㎓ which is difficult to make that narrow bandwidth in the conventional coupled lines due to impractical spacing. The design method in this paper can be applied to the design of other microwave circuits to reduce the size and improve the performances.

  • We have developed a daytime measuring rotational Raman LIDAR system for temperature measurement. To decrease the background signal from sunlight, we have designed and installed narrow band (0.5 nm) and high rejection ($10^{-6}$) rate band pass filter system using a grating and an interference filter. We calibrated our system by comparing our horizontal temperature profile and KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration) data. We have found that our temperature profile has a good correlation with KMA data within our theoretically expected variance. And we have used these calibration values in obtaining a vertical temperature distribution. To check our system, we also have compared our vertical temperature data with US standard atmospheric temperature profile. We also have compared our temperature profile with sonde data.

  • SOFT($\underline{So}lar\;\underline{F}lare\;\underline{T}elescope$) installed at BOAO(Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory) is purposed for observing solar active regions using four refractors on single mount with a $400"\times300"$ field of view: Two refractors with a diameter of 15cm(f15) are observe the white light and $H\alpha$, and the other two refractors with a diameter of 20cm(f8) are observe the magnetic field distribution and Doppler shifts at the solar chromosphere. Three Lyot filters, one of the most important observational instruments, are installed on the optical rails for VMG, LMG, and $H\alpha$ that possible to very narrow pass band observation under high precision stability of temperature. From the combination of KD*P and quarter wave plate in the Lyot filter possible observe the magnetic fields strength and doppler shifts by using the characteristics of polarization components. In this paper, we introduce the basic characteristics, optical system, and monitor system of the SOFT.
