Discussion on VR Storytelling Production

  • In this paper, we present that Virtual Reality (VR) is a type of media that has attracted interest in storytelling and media utilization. VR was first discussed as a specific narrative medium with traditional story medium. Via this discussion, The innate difference of VR is that the role of the media users in which the narrative is communicated were active in the development of the narrative unlike that of most classical narrative media. We also discussed specific features related to VR based on the theories of traditional literary criticism, movie reviews, and plays. Through these discussions, we aruged two directions of VR storytelling production as an narrative medium, its specificity, and its expressiveness for VR producers. First, story processing and characters can be introduced as part of continuing a new narrative by altering the interaction history that appears in VR stories to user interest ratings. Second, VR interaction responds intuitively to the idea that it represents a trajectory across the story surface of all possible interactions. More specific theories and controvercials are discussed.

Fixed Versus Floating Interest Rates in Shipping Finance: A Behavioral Finance Perspective

  • This study analyzed the decision-making process in ship finance for the choice between fixed and floating interest rates using behavioral finance theories. Results confirmed that causes and background of decision-making processes could be explicitly explained by the framework of behavioral finance theories. This study also determined whether decisions were irrational. A case-study research was applied as the methodology. Decision-making data on ship finance collected through narrative and questionnaire responses were analyzed and evaluated using behavioral finance theories. Theories of behavioral finance used in the analysis and research of this study included availability heuristic, anchoring effect, and opportunity cost theory. Narrative and survey responses were clearly explained by theories of behavioral finance. It was found that a shipping company suffered additional losses owing to decisions that included behavioral finance errors. Behavioral finance theories largely influenced the decision-making process of choosing between a fixed interest rate and a floating interest rate. Shipping finance decisions related to interest rate selections could be clearly explained by behavioral finance theories. Errors related to behavioral finance could result in irrational decisions. Thus, managers who are responsible for shipping finance should remain vigilant toward any behavioral finance errors when making shipping finance decisions.

문화 간 커뮤니케이션과 뉴스 보도의 내러티브 분석 (Intercultural Communication and Narrative Analysis of News)

  • 우리 사회가 날로 개방되고 경제, 사회 문화적으로 국제 교류가 활발해 지면서 문화 간 커뮤니케이션의 중요성이 그 어느 때보다도 부상하고 있다. 하지만, 우리 사회가 전통적으로 가진 단일민족의 이데올로기와 자문화 중심주의가 발전적인 국제 관계에 걸림돌로 작용하고 있는 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 우리 사회에 만연되고 있는 문화 간 커뮤니케이션의 장애요소를 진단하기 위해 뉴스 보도를 분석하고자 한다. 분석을 위해 올해 상반기 문화 간 커뮤니케이션 관련 뉴스로 가장 빈번히 보도된 '한류'와 '하인스 워드 신드롬'으로 불린 인종 문제 보도를 대상으로 하였다. 분석 대상은 2006년 1월부터 4월 15일까지 4개월간 일간지로는 동아일보, 조선일보, 중앙일보, 한겨레신문과 매일경제, 방송 뉴스로는 KBS, MBC, SBS의 9시, 8시 메인 뉴스를 대상으로 하였다. 이들 언론사의 한류와 인종관련 보도 전체를 대상으로 하였으며, 총 495개의 기사를 분석하였다. 이들 언론 보도에 나타난 문화 간 커뮤니케이션의 문제를 파악하기 위해 문화 연구 중 활발한 성과를 낸 내러티브 이론을 도입하여 분석하였다. 내러티브 이론은 한류와 인종 보도의 내면에 작용하는 허구성과 권력의 측면을 간파할 수 있게 해 준다. 특히 본 연구에서는 레비-스트로스의 구조 이론과 그레마스의 의미론을 중심으로 한 내러티브 분석을 통해 한류와 인종 보도가 보이는 탈문화적 팽창주의와 정체성의 문제를 밝혀 낼 수 있었다. 이들 문제는 보다 더 심층적 차원에서 우리 사회에 작용하는 욕망과 권력의 문제를 드러내는데, 포스트식민주의 이론을 도입하여 문제를 진단하고 해결방안을 모색하고자 하였다.

Narrative Time and Typographical Space: Towards a Typographical Narratology

  • Narratologists have long raised the question of how narrative theories could be applied to other disciplines that involve stories and storytelling. Focusing on recently revitalized concepts of space, sequence, and story, this article attempts to illustrate narrative constructions in various fields of arts and humanities and examine them particularly in typographical works. Through the concept of narrativity, this article highlights the prevalent uses of narrative in typography and scrutinizes the ways in which a sense of storyness is forming and emerging in some typographical works. Particularly emphasized are the importance of and interplay between the formal and cultural attributes of narrative that transform the spatial world of visual images to the temporal world of stories. Narrative is arguably the most familiar, interesting, and effective medium of communication regardless of age, race, and culture, and can be critically rethought to apply to typography and design.

A Narrative Strategy of Storytelling Advertising Videos: Heineken's Case

  • The purpose of this paper was to explore the narrative strategy of storytelling advertisement videos for a beer brand Heineken. Heineken was one of the most active advertisers who had made very impressive ad videos. The author selected five story driven advertisement videos which had been most frequently watched by Internet viewers. Those were "The Insider", "Odyssey 2011", "Heineken lip gross", "Italy Activation Milan AC vs. Real Madrid", "the Match". The five selected videos have 90 second running time. The target videos were repeatedly watched and the expected key image cuts and key verbal copies were captured as well. To categorize the narrative structure and key copies of each video, Fog, Budtz & Yakaboylu's four element model of storytelling and Gustav Freytag's three act structure or five stage model of a plot were exploited as underlying theories. Most of the ad videos had clear boundary between or among the stages of the plot and used emotional appeals including humor and sexual appeals. This paper found that the target videos used visual rhetorics to enhance the viewers' persuasion and comprehension. It also revealed that the target videos took advantage of football match as an emotional engagement to get ad viewers closely banded with Heineken.

Analysis of the Maturity Selection on Ship Finance: A Behavioral Finance Perspective

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze decision-making regarding ship finance term selection from the behavioral finance perspective and to confirm if the causes and backgrounds of decision-making related to the term selection of ship finance are explicitly explained by behavioral finance theories. Additionally, through a case study, this study infers if decisions are irrational. Narrative and questionnaire responses on the selection of the ship finance period were obtained and analyzed from the behavioral finance perspective. Some shipping companies incur additional losses by choosing inappropriate ship-financing terms. This study applied behavioral finance theories, such as the certainty effect, availability heuristic, and loss aversion, to clearly explain the causes and background of such decision-making. Based on the results, it was found that behavioral finance theories impact ship financing decisions and errors related to behavioral finance can result in irrational decisions. Ship finance managers must be vigilant in preventing behavioral finance errors that can affect the decision-making term of ship finance.

브루너의 이론에 근거한 인도의 정보교육과정 고찰 (A study on India's CMC(Computer Masti Curriculum) based on Bruner's educational theories)

  • 인도는 2007년 고등학교의 정보교과 교육과정을 발표한 이후, 고등학교와 연계된 교육을 위해 2013년 6월 초등학교 수준의 교육과정을 발표하였다. 인도 교육과정 중 특징적인 것은 교육과정의 구조는 나선형을 지향하지만, 교육 방법은 교사와 학생의 상호작용을 강조하고 있다. 교육과정의 패러다임을 바꾼 브루너의 '지식의 구조'에 근간하여 교육과정을 개정하였다. 본 연구는 나선형 교육과정을 지향하면서, 교육의 현장에서는 '내러티브적' 사고를 강조한 인도의 교육과정을 분석하였다. 본 연구는 하나의 교육과정에서 '지식구조론'과 '내러티브' 이론을 동시에 표현한 인도 교육과정 분석을 통해 우리나라 정보교과 교육과정에 대한 교육적 함의를 제시하고자 하였다.

인간 가치 유형에 기반한 캐릭터 분석 방법론 제안 (Character Analysis Method based on the Value Type of the Human)

  • 본 연구는 지금까지의 서사 양식에 등장했던 캐릭터의 성격 유형론을 정리하여, 기존의 캐릭터의 성격 유형론이 갖고 있는 문제점을 정리하고 새로운 분류 가능성을 제안하기 위한 것이다. 지금까지 서사 이론에서 캐릭터 유형의 분류는 크게 서사 내에서의 역할이라는 형식적인 분류와 인간의 내적 자질에 근거한 내용적인 분류, 그리고 그 두 가지 분류 기준이 착종된 보완적 분류로 이루어져 있었다. 기존 캐릭터 분류 유형이 담고 있는 문제는 바로 인간의 내적 자질에 근거한 내용적인 분류의 유용성에 비해 실질적으로 분류가 어렵다는 점이다. 반면 서사 내 등장인물의 역할에 따른 분류는 그 분류가 형식적이기 때문에 서사론의 발전상 중요하게 다뤄져 왔지만, 그다지 실질적인 분석 방법론으로 기능하기는 어려웠다. 본 연구는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위한 시론적인 성격으로, 샬롬 슈워츠의 인간의 가치 유형을 도입하여, 인간의 가치 유형과 인간의 역할을 상호 관련시켜 새로운 캐릭터 분석 방법의 가능성을 제안하고자 한다. 슈워츠의 가치 유형 연구는 인간의 행동의 동기를 파악하는 데 매우 효과적인 방법론으로, 등장인물의 지향성을 분석하는 데 큰 의미가 있을 것이다.

『동의수세보원(東醫壽世保元)·성명론(性命論)』의 '대동어협의(大同於協義)'와 '각립어천리(各立於擅利)'의 해석에 대한 고찰 (A Study on the Interpretation of 'Daedong-eo-Hyeobui(大同於協義)' and 'Gakrip-eo-Cheonri(各立於擅利)' in Theories on Nature and Conduct(性命論) of Donguisusebowon(東醫壽世保元))

  • Objectives : This paper aims to suggest alternative interpretations to previous ones of 'Daedong-eo-Hyeobui(大同於協義)' and 'Gakrip-eo-Cheonri(各立於擅利)' in the chapter 'Theories on Nature and Conduct(性命論)' in Donguisusebowon(東醫壽世保元) which have been found to be inadequate. Methods : Previous interpretations were thoroughly examined, then evaluated based on the narrative form and logical probability of the Donguisusebowon(東醫壽世保元). Afterwards, correct interpretations of the contents were suggested based on the context of the chapter 'Theories on Nature and Conduct(性命論).' Results & Conclusions : Of 'Daedong-eo-Hyeobui(大同於協義)', Daedong(大同) should be interpreted as 'to gather largely' instead of 'all the same.' Hyeobui(協義) should be interpreted as 'to submit willingly' and not 'to cooperate to Ui(義).' In the case of 'Gakrip-eo-Cheonri(各立於 擅利)', Gakrip(各立) means for people of same minds to rise against evil individually while Cheonri(擅利) refers to the evil of coveting for gains individually. There are other cases where existing interpretations have been erroneous other than the suggested examples, which prompts thorough re-evaluation of the text.

컴포넌트기반 인터랙티브 스토리 생성 방법 설계 (The Design of Interactive Story Generation method based in CBD)

  • Under the environment of various network and multimedia, various theories are studied to make utilize digital story telling authoring. In the era of digital convergence and ubiquitous information, they want to send information with additional emotional information which is preferred constructive sending method. Digital storytelling refers to a unified technology for narrative structure with the picture and act. If engraft with particular research field, It will make interactive or linear story structure. These structures have problems that they are mismanaging on the result and they are not integrated systemization in each society. Because those are designing storytelling without development process and they are focusing on web distribution. This thesis is design using the object-oriented methodology of component-based design methodology, This thesis create digital storytelling and design metadata for contents management. In the requirement phase, subject and predicate part are extracted from the narrative structure of the story and restructure an organization. We explain by giving specific examples "kongjwi and patjwi" story as a case study.
