  • As the digital environment expended, concern about importance of narrative and its value has been increased. But detailed study regarding narrative analysis leaves much to be desired. Most studies on animation narrative structure are focused on Japanese and Disney animation of America, shot films in particular. Plus these have not been done by the comparative method but separately by product. This study aims at clarifying the peculiar narrative characteristics between Chinese and American animation through the comparative analysis about s, which are produced in the respective countries, China on behalf of High-context culture and America as the Low-context culture.

  • Movie research in the 1980's structuralism looks tendency to escape director or text research and analyze spectator or inspection action. These post-structuralist divert interest by analytic convention of spectators in analysis by director's intention or text type correctly. There is the age that spectator, inspectional action and inspectional subject weighs more than director, work and text itself. But, inspection of movie can be person's enemy by director's narrative strategy or spectator's analytic quality that depend on a text and spectator and their interaction usually, and only method to acquire universality chooses full analytic discourse to principle. We should be structured by symbol system that the event is consisted of movie language to reappear the event through narrative in movie and this symbol system, director's narrative strategy can cause fixed esthetic distance between spectator. Researches to analyze this distance need to keep universal validity as much as being accepted by effort to gap with director and spectator. Therefore, narrative poetry that I analyze movie narration style by 'narrated' and unit of 'narrating' and study the form and function so-called, is going to follow narratology's access method. The consistent argument of this narrative poetry is that story is consisted of the events and these observe to structured thing by unit that is sequence through arrangement with the other event that adjoin in the event. Also, director need consensus with spectator to reappear connection of this event logically and it is thing which this reappearance form can be done characteristic by narrative strategy in directing. I am going to try narrative structure analysis of movie by narrative that is connected at structure of the event and 'narrating-narrative acts' that is interested in way to reappear this story to spectator hereupon. Of course, at process of research, Roland Barthes and his followers wish to apply 'narrative function' and concept of 'narrative acts' that prefer from time to time.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of the fashion narrative from the commercial and artistic viewpoints by identifying and evaluating the attributes of the fashion narrative and analyzing the fashion narrative focusing on various cases according to fashion media. Louis Vuitton, a brand of the Louis Vuitton $Mo{\ddot{e}}t$ Hennessy (LVMH) group that operates the entire fashion community platform, is recognized as an influential luxury company with enormous capital and capabilities. This study targeted Louis Vuitton to examine the fashion narrative. The common results of Louis Vuitton's fashion narrative according to the communication platform are as follows. First, it emphasizes well-designed craftsmanship and artistry to convey the value and meaning of the brand. Second, it expresses the lifestyle of the bourgeoisie using traveling for finding life purpose, nature, and freedom as common denominators. Louis Vuitton connects, shares, and engages with customers by crossing the communication platform and trying multi-sensory changes based on the fashion narrative of the 'artification' message encompassing craftsmanship, innovation, and travel. The fashion narrative of Louis Vuitton applies tools (e.g., design, direction, stage, and props) differently according to the nature of media. In other words, the fashion narrative in the form of transmedia storytelling is a marketing communication strategy that indicates the representation means and direction of a brand's goals by remediating the brand narrative in various ways through the communication platform.

  • This study is to suggest a new method of analyzing personality types of characters in narrative. First, we examined the history of the taxonomy of character types that existed in narrative theories so far. Until now, the classification of character types in narrative theory consisted largely of a formal classification based on roles in narrative, a content classification based on human internal qualities, and a complementary classification in which the two classification criteria are united. The problem with the existing character classification type is difficult to categorize it in spite of the usefulness of the content classification based on human internal qualities. On the other hand, the classification based on the role of the character in the narrative does not help as much as a practical analysis methodology because the classification is formal. In this study, we try to solve this problem by introducing Shalom Schwartz's human value type, and to make human character's value type and human role correlated with each other as a new character analysis methodology. Schwartz's study of value type is a very effective method to grasp the motivation of human behavior, and it seems to be very meaningful in analyzing the directivity of characters.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the context of cosumers' lives in Korea with a narrative analysis method. The epistemological orientation of eh narrative analysis is Interpretivism, which blends the two polar philosophical perspectives, Empiricism and Rationalism, and includes Narrotology, Hermeneneutics, Semiotics, and Structural Criticism. Narrative analysis takes as its object of investigation the story itself. This study collects eleven narrative plots from four housewives, into which Labov's structural approach is applied. This study shows clearly that the socio-cultural environment in which consumers live has strong influence on their consumption behavior and also reveals that narrativization tells not only about past actions but how individuals understand those actions, that is, meaning.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between the preschoolers' hostile attributional bias and the narrative representation profiles. Forty five 4-year-old preschoolers (24 boys, 21 girls) participated in this study. In order to measure the children's narrative responses, MacArthur Story Stem Battery (MSSB) was used, and "a cartoon-based social perception task" was used to obtain preschoolers' hostile attributional bias. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and cluster analysis. The results were as follows. First, the rate of hostile attributional style of the subjects was 28.89%. Second, four profiles regarding the narrative representations of 4-year olds were found including: Prosocial (33.3%), Constrained (42.2%), Anxious/Restricted (6.7%), and Dysregulated (17.8%). Third, the rate of preschoolers' hostile attributional style differed by the preschoolers' narrative representation profile. Children with a Prosocial profile showed a less hostile attributional style than children with an Anxious/Restricted profile and Dysregulated profile. In conclusion, preschoolers' hostile attributional bias is related to the narrative representation profile.

  • Chapter 1 and 2 of this study examined the methodology of modern storytelling using the hero narrative structure. This involved analyses of Joseph Campbell's monomyth structure, which is the prototype model of modern storytelling and Christopher Vogler's story structure in which the monomyth structure is classified into 3 Acts and 12 Stages. In addition, the movie 'Captain America' was analyzed based on Vogler's narrative structure theory. According to the analyses results, the hero of 'Captain America' fully follows Christopher Vogler's hero narrative structure but in some cases, he does not follow the existing hero narrative structure. It is interpreted that this is because heroes of modern tales have different birth backgrounds from mythical heroes. There is also a difference even in the stage where a hero completes all adventures and returns home between modern tales and myths due to different social backgrounds. Therefore, these findings provide a basis for modification and supplementation of a modern hero epic. Through this analysis, the modified modern hero narrative structure is evaluated to be appropriate as a basic model for modern storytelling. Further, it is expected that those who frame a film script can complete a new hero epic while following the structure of syntagmatic systems by selecting a level among Northrop Frye's paragmatic systems based on this structure and considering story themes and heroes' personality and characteristics.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the narrative structure and types of films that has attracted more than 10 million viewers ('10 million films') among films released in Korea, and deal with the implications of the current Korean film industry. To this end, this study investigated the relationship between films and their narrative as a product of the film industry. To approach this, We dealt with the features of structuralist analysis and archetype or mythological narrative analysis. For a detailed analysis, a total of 27 films of "10 million films" were categorized using Northrop Frye's original narrative analysis method. As a result of the study, 13 comedy structures, 7 romance structures, 4 tragic structures, and 3 irony and satire structures. It was confirmed that the "comedy" and "romance" structures had a high percentage of all 10 million films, and occupied the top ranks in the box office rankings. In conclusion, this study confirmed the narrative rules and customs of films hitting Korean box offices, and through this, it was possible to examine a rough topography of the film consumption of the public in the Korean film industry. This can be said to provide a clue as to how the narrative of the film should be constructed when producing a film from an industrial perspective.

  • This paper examines Korean EFL high school students' reader responses on an expository text and a narrative text with the same topic. The purpose of the study is to investigate whether they have different reading models depending on the two genres and whether there are any differences depending on the learners' proficiency levels. The analysis focuses on textual, critical, and aesthetic reading models in the reader responses written in English by science-gifted high school students (N=30). The results show that the participants have different reading models in reading an expository text and a narrative text. They tend to read the expository text in a more critical way while reading the narrative text in a more personal and emotional way. Moreover, regardless of the proficiency levels, they wrote longer responses on the narrative text than the expository text. However, the proficiency level of English does not support any significant differences in the types of reading models. The findings provide Korean EFL high school students' characteristics in L2 reading and suggest the pedagogical implication to pursue linguistic development as well as reading for pleasure.
