1-D ZnO nanowires have been attractive for their peculiar properties and easy growth at relatively low temperature. The length, diameter, and density of ZnO nanowires were determined by the several synthetic parameters, such as PEI concentration, growth time, temperature, and zinc salt concentration. The ZnO nanowires were grown on the <001> oriented seed layer using the hydrothermal process with zinc nitrate and HMTA (hexamethylenetetramine) and their structure and optical properties were characterized. The morphology, length and diameter of the nanowires were strongly affected by the relative and/or absolute concentration of $Zn^{2+}$ and $OH^{-1}$ and the hydrothermal temperature. When the concentrations of the zinc nitrate HMTA were the same as 0.015 M, the length and diameter of the nanowires were $1.97{\mu}m$ and $0.07{\mu}m$, respectively, and the aspect ratio was 28.1 with the preferred orientation along the <001> direction. XRD and TEM results showed a high crystallinity of the ZnO nanowires. Optical measurement revealed that ZnO nanowires emitted intensive stimulated UV at 376 nm without showing visible emission related to oxygen defects.

Pure ZnO and ZnO nanowires doped with 3 wt.% Ga (‘3GZO’) were grown by pulsed laser deposition in a furnace system. The doping of Ga in ZnO nanowires was analyzed by observing the optical and chemical properties of the doped nanowires. The diameter and length of nanowires were under 200 nm and several ${\mu}m$, respectively. Changes of significant resistance were observed and the sensitivities of ZnO and 3GZO nanowires were compared. The sensitivities of ZnO and 3GZO nanowire sensors measured at 300℃ for 1 ppm of ethanol gas were 97% and 48%, respectively.

We report solution-processed, high-performance single-crystal organic nanowire transistors fabricated from a novel indolocarbazole (IC) derivative. The direct printing process was utilized to generate single-crystal organic nanowire arrays enabling the simultaneous synthesis, alignment and patterning of nanowires using molecular ink solutions. Using this method, single-crystal organic nanowires can easily be synthesized by self-assembly and crystallization of organic molecules within the nanoscale channels of molds, and these nanowires can then be directly transferred to specific positions on substrates to generate nanowire arrays by a direct printing process. These new molecules are particularly suitable for p-channel organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) because of the high level of crystallinity usually found in IC derivatives. Selected area diffraction (SAED) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) experiments on these solution-processed nanowires showed high crystallinity. Transistors fabricated with these nanowires gave a hole mobility as high as 1.0 cm2V-1s-1 with nanowire arrays with the direct printing process.
Single crystalline Cu nanowires with controlled diameters and aspect ratios have been synthesized using electrochemical deposition within confined nanochannels of a porous anodic aluminium oxide(AAO) template. The diameters of nano-sized cylindrical pores in AAO template were adjusted by controlling the anodization conditions. Cu nanowires with diameters of approximately 38, 99, 274 nm were synthesized by the electrodeposition using the AAO templates. The crystal structure, morphology and microstructure of the Cu nanowires were systematically investigated using XRD, FE-SEM, TEM and SAED. Investigation results revealed that the Cu nanowires had the controlled diameter, high aspect ratio and single crystalline nature.

ZnO nanowires were fabricated by hydrothermal synthesis technique for field emission device application. Al-doped zinc oxide (AZO) thin films were prepared as seed layer of catalyst for the ZnO nanowire synthesis, for which conductivity of the seed layer was tried to be improved for enhancing the field emission property of the ZnO nanowire. The AZO seed layer revealed specific resistivity of $ 7.466{\times}10^{-4}[{\Omega}{\cdot}cm]$ and carrier mobility of 18.6[$cm^2$/Vs]. Additionally, upper tip of the prepared ZnO nanowires was treated by hydrochloric acid (HCl) to form a nanocone shape of ZnO nanowire, which was aimed for enhanced focusing of electric field on that and resultingly to improve field emission property of the ZnO nanowires. The ZnO nanowire with nanocone shape revealed decreased threshold electric field and increased current density than those of the simple ZnO nanowires.
Vertically oriented nickel nanowire arrays with a different diameter and length are synthesized in porous anodic aluminium oxide templates by an electrodeposition method. The pore diameters of the templates are adjusted by controlling the anodization conditions and then they are utilized as templates to grow nickel nanowire arrays. The nickel nanowires have the average diameters of approximately 25 and 260 nm and the crystal structure, morphology and microstructure of the nanowires are systematically investigated using XRD, FE-SEM and TEM analysis. The nickel nanowire arrays show a magnetic anisotropy with the easy axis parallel to the nanowires and the coercivity and remanence enhance with decreasing a wire diameter and increasing a wire length.

GaN nanowires has much interest as one-dimensional materials for blue light LED. GaN-based materials have been the subject of intensive research for blue light emission and high temperature/high power electronic devices. In this letter, the synthesis of GaN nanowires by the reaction of mixture of GaN nanowires by the reaction of mixture of Ga meta and GaN powder with NH$_3$ using thermal chemical vapor deposition is reported. X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive x-ray spectrometer, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy indicate that those GaN nanowires with hexagonal wurtzite structure were about 60nm in diameter and up to several hundreds of micrometers in length.
The structures and properties of Cu nanowires have been investigated using molecular dynamics simulations. Cylindrical multi-shell Cu nanowires maintain their structures at room temperature and their structural properties are different from the structural properties of nanowires with face-centered-cubic structure. The results from nanopillar and tensile testing of cylindrical multi-shell Cu nanowire showed structures related to pentagonal needle-like crystal structures. Since the subunits of pentagonal nanowire with needle-like crystal are face-centered-cubic structure, pentagonal multi-shell nanowires are stable one-dimensional structures in nanostructured materials.
Bamboo-like Te nanotubes were synthesized via the galvanic displacement reaction of NiFe nanowires with Ni-rich and Fe-rich segments. The thick and thin components of the synthesized Te nanotubes were converted from the Ni-rich and Fe-rich segments in the NiFe nanowires respectively. The dimensions of the Te nanotubes were controlled by employing sacrificial NiFe nanowires with tailored dimensions as the template for the galvanic displacement reaction. The segment lengths of the Te nanotubes were found to be dependent on those of the sacrificial NiFe nanowires. The galvanic displacement reaction was characterized by analyzing the open circuit potential and the corrosion resistance.

One dimensional (1D) nanostructures, including nanowires, nanorods, nanobelts, and nanotubes, have been the focus of current research on nanotechnology because of their fundamental significance in chemistry, physics, materials science and engineering, and potential applications in nanoelectronics. We have synthesized Te-rich $Sb_xTe_{1-x}$ nanowires and nanotubes via thermal evaporation method under vapor-solid mechanism. The physical morphology and chemical composition of the fabricated nanowires and nanotubes were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX).
