The equilibrium molecular-dynamic simulations have been performed to estimate the properties of the three kinds of fluids confined between two plates that are separated by 1.086 nm; included in the statical properties are the density distribution and the static structure, and the autocorrelation velocity function in the dynamic property. Three kinds of fluids considered in this study are the Lennard-Jones fluid, water and aqueous sodium-chloride solution. The water molecules are modeled by using the SPC/E model and the ions by the charged Lennard-Jones particle model. To treat the water molecules, we combined the quaternion coordinates with Euler angles. We also proposed a plausible algorithm to assign the initial position and direction of molecules. The influence of polarization of water molecules as well as the presence of ions in the solution on the properties will be addressed in this study. In addition, we performed the non-equilibrium molecular-dynamic simulation to compute the flow velocity for the case with the gravitational force acting on molecules.
This study was conducted as a preliminary study for the recycling of palladium and palladium oxide. In this study, thermodynamic equations for the formation of palladium oxide (PdO) are established. Palladium chloride is dissolved into hydrochloric acid to generate a palladium chloride solution. Nanosized palladium oxide powder with an average particle size below 30 nm were generated from this raw material solution by means of a spray pyrolysis process. The palladium oxide particles were composed of a single solid crystal. The results of XRD analysis showed that only a PdO phase of the generated powder was formed. And, the specific surface area of the generated palladium powder was approximately $32m^2/g$.
Molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) is used in various applications including sensors, photocatalysts, and batteries owing to its excellent ionic conductivity and thermal properties. It can also be used as a precursor in the hydrogen reduction process to obtain molybdenum metals. Control of the parameters governing the MoO3 synthesis process is extremely important because the size and shape of MoO3 in the reduction process affect the shape, size, and crystallization of Mo metal. In this study, we fabricated MoO3 nanoparticles using a solution combustion synthesis (SCS) method that utilizes an organic additive, thereby controlling their morphology. The nucleation behavior and particle morphology were confirmed using ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The concentration of the precursor (ammonium heptamolybdate tetrahydrate) was adjusted to be 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 M. Depending on this concentration, different nucleation rates were obtained, thereby resulting in different particle morphologies.
NiAl alloy powders were prepared by mechanical alloying method and bulk specimens were produced using hot isostatic pressing techniques. This study focused on the transformation behavior and properties of Ni-Al mechanically alloyed powders and bulk alloys. Transformation behavior was investigated by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), XRD and TEM. Particle size distribution and microstructures of mechanically alloyed powders were studied by particle size analyzer and scanning electron microscope (SEM). After 10 hours milling, XRB peak broadening appeared at the alloyed powders with compositions of Ni-36at%Al to 40at%Al. The NiAl and $Ni_3Al$ intermetallic compounds were formed after water quenching of solution treated powders and bulk samples at $1200^{\circ}C$, but the martensite phase was observed after liquid nitrogen quenching of solution treated powders. However, the formation of $Ni_3Al$ intermetallic compounds were not restricted by fast quenching into liquid nitrogen. It is considered to be caused by fast diffusion of atoms for the formation of stable $\beta$(NiAl) phase and $Ni_3Al$ due to nano sized grains during quenching. Amounts of martensite phase increased as the composition of aluminium component decreased in the Ni-Al alloy, which resulted in the increasing damping properties.
Ethosome is a liquid crystalline vesicle prepared by hydration of ethanol-dissolved lecithin with a solution containing hydrophilic components. Investigation of factors affecting the entrapment efficiency and particle size of ethosomes was carried out, because the high entrapment efficiency and small particle size are prerequisite in developing ethosomes as a drug delivery system. The variations of properties of ethosomes with constituent composition and preparation method were examined using a calcein as a hydrophilic marker. It was observed that the amount of ethanol and calcein solution, phosphatidyl choline content in lecithin, preparation temperature, stirring rate, and PBS addition method had a considerable effect on the properties of ethosome. Sonication treatment resulted in the reduction of entrapment efficiency of ethosome, which was due to the release of entrapped components in the vesicles by strong sonication vibration.
Fe/$SiO_2$ core-shell type composite nanoparticles have been synthesized using a reverse micelle process combined with metal alkoxide hydrolysis and condensation. Nano-sized $SiO_2$ composite particles with a core-shell structure were prepared by arrested precipitation of Fe clusters in reverse micelles, followed by hydrolysis and condensation of organometallic precursors in micro-emulsion matrices. Microstructural and chemical analyses of Fe/$SiO_2$ core-shell type composite nanoparticles were carried out by TEM and EDS. The size of the particles and the thickness of the coating could be controlled by manipulating the relative rates of the hydrolysis and condensation reaction of TEOS within the micro-emulsion. The water/surfactant molar ratio influenced the Fe particle distribution of the core-shell composite particles, and the distribution of Fe particles was broadened as R increased. The particle size of Fe increased linearly with increasing $FeNO_3$ solution concentration. The average size of the cluster was found to depend on the micelle size, the nature of the solvent, and the concentration of the reagent. The average size of synthesized Fe/$SiO_2$ core-shell type composite nanoparticles was in a range of 10-30 nm and Fe particles were 1.5-7 nm in size. The effects of synthesis parameters, such as the molar ratio of water to TEOS and the molar ratio of water to surfactant, are discussed.

One of the critical consumables in chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) is a specialized solution or slurry, which typically contains both abrasives and chemicals acting together to planarize films. In single abrasive slurry (SAS), the solid phase consists of only one type of abrasive particle. On the other hand, mixed abrasive slurry (MAS) consists of a mixture of at least two types of abrasive particles. In this paper, we have studied the CMP characteristics of mixed abrasive slurry (MAS) retreated by adding of $CeO_2$ abrasives within 1:10 diluted silica slurry (DSS). The slurry designed for optimal performance should produce reasonable removal rates, acceptable polishing selectivity with respect to the underlying layer, low surface defects after polishing, and good slurry stability. The modified abrasives in MAS are evaluated with respect to their particle size distribution, surface morphology, and CMP performances such as removal rate and non-uniformity. As an experimental result, we obtained the comparable slurry characteristics compared with original silica slurry in the viewpoint of high removal rate and low non-uniformity.
The optimum route to fabricate nano-sized Fe-50 wt% Co and hydrogen-reduction behavior of calcined Fe-/Conitrate was investigated. The powder mixture of metal oxides was prepared by solution mixing and calcination of Fe-/Co-nitrate. A DTA-TG and microstructural analysis revealed that the nitrates mixture by the calcination at $300^{\circ}C$ for 2 h was changed to Fe-oxide/$Co_3O_4$ composite powders with an average particle size of 100 nm. The reduction behavior of the calcined powders was analyzed by DTA-TG in a hydrogen atmosphere. The composite powders of Fe-oxide and Co3O4 changed to a Fe-Co phase with an average particle size of 40 nm in the temperature range of $260-420^{\circ}C$. In the TG analysis, a two-step reduction process relating to the presence of Fe3O4 and a CoO phase as the intermediate phase was observed. The hydrogen-reduction kinetics of the Fe-oxide/Co3O4 composite powders was evaluated by the amount of peak shift with heating rates in TG. The activation energies for the reduction, estimated by the slope of the Kissinger plot, were 96 kJ/mol in the peak temperature range of $231-297^{\circ}C$ and 83 kJ/mol of $290-390^{\circ}C$, respectively. The reported activation energy of 70.4-94.4 kJ/mol for the reduction of Fe- and Co-oxides is in reasonable agreement with the measured value in this study.

In this study, Poly-urethane acrylate (PUA) was synthesized by the reaction between Polycaprolactonetriol (PCLT) and Isophorone dissocyanate (IPDI) and hybridized with inorganic materials. Tetraethylortho silicate (TEOS) and nano clay (Closite 20A) were used as inorganic particles. For the hybridization of TEOS with PUA, sol-gel method is used, in which TEOS is made into spherical particle in the firsthand. In the case of Nano clay, hybridization is carried out through the dispersion as Nano clay has a layered structure. The solution of PUA hybrid was made into a film after UV curing and its thermo and electrical properties were measured. The experimental analysis and result demonstrate that the PUA hybrid shows an improved thermal properties and lower dielectric constant than that of the non-hybrid PUA. The trend of improved properties was different depending on structure of inorganic materials.
This study investigates methyl orange (MO) degradation by an ultrasonically dispersed nano-metallic particle (NMP) assisted advanced Fenton process. The NMPs were synthesized from the leachate of automobile-shredder residue. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy were performed for the prepared NMPs. Various parameters, such as the effects of the NMP dosage, the pH value of the solution, the initial concentration of MO, and the amount of $H_2O_2$ on the degradation efficiency of MO were studied. The MO degradation efficiency could be increased by approximately 100% by increasing the dosages of the NMPs and $H_2O_2$ to certain limits, after which in both cases the degradation efficiency was reduced when an excess amount was added. The MO degradation efficiency was found to be 100% at pH 2.0 and 2.5 with the 10 mg/L of initial concentration of the MO. The degradation of MO by ultrasonically dispersed NMPs was appropriate with the pseudo-first-order kinetics.
