In this paper, the nonlinear free and forced vibration responses of sandwich nano-beams with three various functionally graded (FG) patterns of reinforced carbon nanotubes (CNTs) face-sheets are investigated. The sandwich nano-beam is resting on nonlinear Visco-elastic foundation and is subjected to thermal and electrical loads. The nonlinear governing equations of motion are derived for an Euler-Bernoulli beam based on Hamilton principle and von Karman nonlinear relation. To analyze nonlinear vibration, Galerkin's decomposition technique is employed to convert the governing partial differential equation (PDE) to a nonlinear ordinary differential equation (ODE). Furthermore, the Multiple Times Scale (MTS) method is employed to find approximate solution for the nonlinear time, frequency and forced responses of the sandwich nano-beam. Comparison between results of this paper and previous published paper shows that our numerical results are in good agreement with literature. In addition, the nonlinear frequency, force response and nonlinear damping time response is carefully studied. The influences of important parameters such as nonlocal parameter, volume fraction of the CNTs, different patterns of CNTs, length scale parameter, Visco-Pasternak foundation parameter, applied voltage, longitudinal magnetic field and temperature change are investigated on the various responses. One can conclude that frequency of FG-AV pattern is greater than other used patterns.
In chemistry, the study of sonochemistry is concerned with understanding the effect of sonic waves and wave properties on chemical systems. In the area of chemical kinetics, it has been observed that ultrasound can greatly enhance chemical reactivity in a number of systems by as much as a million-fold. Nano-technology is a super microscopic technology in which structures of 100 nanometers or smaller can be investigated. This technology has been used to develop $TiO_2$ materials and $TiO_2$ devices of that size. Thus far, electrochemistry methods and photochemistry methods have generally been used to create $TiO_2$ nano-size particles. However, these methods are complicated and create pollutants as a by-product. In the present study, nano-scale silver particles (5 nm) were prepared in a sonochemistry method. Sonochemistry deals with mechanical energy that is provided by the collapse of cavitation bubbles that form in solutions during exposure to ultrasound. $TiO_2$ powders 25 nm in size doped with Ag were formed using an ultrasonic sound technique. The experimental results showed the high possibility of removing pollution through the action of a photocatalyst. This powder synthesis technique can be considered as an environmentally friendly powder-forming processing owing to its energy saving characteristics.
Micro-scale serpentine structure fibers are widely used as flexible sensor in the manufacturing of micro-nano flexible electronic devices because of their outstanding non-linear mechanical properties and organizational flexibility. The use of melt electrowriting (MEW) technology, combined with the axial bending effect of the Taylor cone jet in the process, can achieve the micro-scale serpentine structure fibers. Due to the interference of the process parameters, it is still challenging to achieve the precise deposition of micro-scale and high-consistency serpentine structure fibers. In this paper, the micro-scale serpentine structure fiber is produced by MEW combined with axial bending effect. Based on the controlled deposition of MEW, applied voltage, collector speed, nozzle height and nozzle diameter are adjusted to achieve the precise deposition of micro-scale serpentine structure fibers with different morphologies in a single motion dimension. Finally, the influence mechanism of the above four parameters on the precise deposition of micro-scale serpentine fibers is explored.
Nanometer-sized structures are being applied to many fields including micro/nano electronics, optoelectronics, quantum computing, biosensors, etc. Multi-scale analysis technology is required for designing the reliable nanometer-sized structures and predicting their mechanical, chemical and electronic behaviors. In this paper, some techniques for multi-scale analysis are reviewed and their applicability and limitation are discussed. Research activity of nano process analysis team in KIMM is outlined. Especially, we concentrate on OCTA of Nagoya University in Japan for the analysis of polymeric materials. Detailed structure of OCTA is described and some examples are presented.

Recently, an approach for nano-scale material deformation has been developed that couples the atomistic and continuum approaches using Finite Element Method (FEM) and Molecular Dynamics (MD). However, this approach still has problems to connect two approaches because of the difference of basic assumptions, continuum and atomistic modeling. To solve this problem, an alternative way is developed that connects the QuasiMolecular Dynamics (QMD) and molecular dynamics. In this paper, we suggest the way to make and validate the MD-QMD coupled model.

In this paper the buckling analysis of the nanoplate made of arbitrary bi-directional functionally graded (BDFG) materials with small scale effects are investigated. To study the small-scale effects on buckling load, the Eringen's nonlocal theory is applied. Employing the principle of minimum potential energy, the governing equations are obtained. Generalize differential quadrature method (GDQM) is used to solve the governing equations for various boundary conditions to obtain the buckling load of BDFG nanoplates. These models can degenerate into the classical models if the material length scale parameter is taken to be zero. Comparison between the results of GDQ method and other papers for buckling analysis of a simply supported rectangular nano FGM plate reveals the accuracy of GDQ method. At the end some numerical results are presented to study the effects of material length scale parameter, plate thickness, aspect ratio, Poisson's ratio boundary condition and side to thickness ratio on size dependent Frequency.
Micro/nano adhesion and friction properties of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) with different head- and end-group were experimentally studied according to the coating methods. Various kinds of SAM having different spacer chains (C10 and C18), head-group and end-group were deposited onto Si-wafer by dipping and chemical vapour deposition (CVD) methods under atmospheric pressure, where the deposited SAM resulted in the hydrophobic nature. The adhesion and friction properties between tip and SAM surfaces under nano scale applied load were measured using an atomic force microscope (AFM) and also those under micro scale applied load were measured using a ball-on-flat type micro-tribotester. Surface roughness and water contact angles were measured with SPM (scanning probe microscope) and contact anglemeter respectively. Results showed that water contact angles of SAMs with the end-group of fluorine show higher relatively than those of hydrogen. SAMs with the end-group of fluorine show lower nano-adhesion but higher micro/nanofriction than those with hydrogen. Water contact angles of SAMs coated by CVD method show high values compared to those by dipping method. SAMs coated by CVD method show the increase of nano-adhesion but the decrease of nano-friction. Nano-adhesion and friction mechanism of SAMs with different end-group was proposed in a view of size of fluorocarbon molecule.

The application of focused ion beam (FIB) technology in micro/nano machining has become increasingly popular. Its use in micro/nano machining has advantages over contemporary photolithography or other micro/nano machining technologies, such as small feature resolution, the ability to process without masks and being accommodating for a variety of materials and geometries. This paper presents that the recent development and our research goals in FIB nano machining technology are given. The emphasis will be on direct milling, or chemical vapor deposition techniques (CVD), and this can distinguish the FIB technology from the contemporary photolithography process and provide a vital alternative to it. After an introduction to the technology and its FIB principles, the recent developments in using milling or deposition techniques for making various high-quality devices and high-precision components at the micro/nano meter scale are examined and discussed. Finally, conclusions are presented to summarize the recent work and to suggest the areas for improving the FIB milling technology and for studying our future research.

Determination of elastic properties of nano-scale materials using nano-indentation tests is well established, but that of plastic properties is not yet clear. This paper presents a method to extract plastic properties from nano-indentation test, together with results from detailed elastic-plastic FE analysis. It shows that the plastic properties determined from this method are not unique, in the sense that a number of different plastic properties can give the same load-displacement response from nano-indentation test. possible ways to overcome such problems are discussed.
