When a new bonding agent using coal ash is utilized as a substitute for cement, it has the advantages of offering a reduction in the generation of carbon dioxide and securing the initial mechanical strength such that the agent has attracted strong interest from recycling and eco-friendly construction industries. This study aims to establish the production conditions of new hardening materials using clean bottom ash and an alkali activation process to evaluate the characteristics of newly manufactured hardening materials. The alkali activator for the compression process uses a NaOH solution. This study concentrated on strength development according to the concentration of the NaOH solution, the curing temperature, and the curing time. The highest compressive strength of a compressed body appeared at 61.24MPa after curing at $60^{\circ}C$ for 28 days. This result indicates that a higher curing temperature is required to obtain a higher strength body. Also, the degree of geopolymerization was examined using a scanning electron microscope, revealing a micro-structure consisting of a glass-like matrix and crystalized grains. The microstructures generated from the activation reaction of sodium hydroxide were widely distributed in terms of the factors that exercise an effect on the compressive strength of the geopolymer hardening bodies. The Si/Al ratio of the geopolymer having the maximum strength was about 2.41.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the dielectric properties of impregnated and activated palm kernel shells (PKSs) samples using two activating agents, potassium carbonate ($K_2CO_3$) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH), at three impregnation ratios. The materials were characterized by moisture content, carbon content, ash content, thermal profile and functional groups. The dielectric properties were examined using an open-ended coaxial probe method at various microwave frequencies (1-6 GHz) and temperatures (25, 35, and $45^{\circ}C$). The results show that the dielectric properties varied with frequency, temperature, moisture content, carbon content and mass ratio of the ionic solids. PKSK1.75 (PKS impregnated with $K_2CO_3$ at a mass ratio of 1.75) and PKSN1.5 (PKS impregnated with NaOH at a mass ratio of 1.5) exhibited a high loss tangent ($tan{\delta}$) indicating the effectiveness of these materials to be heated by microwaves. $K_2CO_3$ and NaOH can act as a microwave absorber to enhance the efficiency of microwave heating for low loss PKSs. Materials with a high moisture content exhibit a high loss tangent but low penetration depth. The interplay of multiple operating frequencies is suggested to promote better microwave heating by considering the changes in the materials characteristics.
The seed formation and growth of $\alpha$-ferric oxyhydroxide with aerial oxidative precipitation from aqueous solution of ferrous sulfate with KOH, NaOH, $Na_2CO_3$ and $K_2CO_3$ as precipitants have been studied by free pH drift experiment. It has been shown that all precipitants give same particle formation and growth path, and average particle length from KOH and NaOH as precipitants was about 1.5 times shorter than that of $K_2CO_3$ and $Na_2CO_3$. When initial mole ratio, $R_o=[Fe^{2+}]_o/[OH^-]_o$ of KOH was decreased the particle was grown oxyhydroxide seed growth from aqueous solution of ferrous sulfate with KOH has been studied. The influence of the air flow rate, reaction temperature and initial mole ratio, $R_o=[Fe^{2+}]_o/[OH^-]_o$, on the kinetics of seed growth are investigated by static pH experiment. The oxidation rate of seed growth increased with increase in the air low rate, reaction temperature and initial mole patio. The activation energy of seed growth is 16.16 KJ/mol and the rate equation of seed growth can be written as follows: $-\frac{d[Fe^{2+}]}{dt}=1.46{\times}10^4[P_{o2}]^{0.66}[OH^-]^{2.19}exp(-\frac{16.16}{dt})$.

Through alkaline hydrothermal activation processes, Na-A type zeolite was synthesized as a single phase withfunnel-glass waste from a television tube factory. The autoclaving was performed in a closed teflon vessel in therange of 80~95"C. The silica-rich solution as a starting material was hydrothermally synthesized with quartz in INNaOH by heating 350"C under the pressure of 1,500 atm. NaA102 was made from NaOH and Al(OH)3 by heating95"c for 2~3 hours and the molar ratios of it were Na20/A1203=1.4 and H20Ha20=8. The equi-dimensional Atype zeolite (1 ~2 U) was formed by the simple mixing of'the silica-rich solution, glass waste and NaA102 for I~3hours-heating at 80"C. The characterization of the reaction product shows Na-A as a single phase. The synthesizedzeolite has cube-dodecahedral form and Ca2+ ion exchange capacity of the Na-A was in the range of 215~220mequivalent/100 g.20mequivalent/100 g.

Because the physical·chemical properties of bottom ash are inferior, most bottom ash is disused. But the use of bottom ash helps in reducing environmental pollution and solving some bottom ash waste problems. So, we have been investigating about the optimum mixture, hardening mechanism, curing condition and environmental safety of a paste composed of a bottom ash and alkali. optimal mixing proportion of bottom ash solid was cement 5%, water 30%, NaOH 10%. After curing during 28days, bottom ash solid can be achieved compressive strength 15.13MPa. As a result, Compressive strength tests of alkali-activated bottom ash have potential as a replacement of coarse aggregate.
We determined the incidence of activation, male pronuclear formation and apposition of pronuclei in porcine oocytes following intracy-toplasmic injection of various porcine sperm components and foreign species spermatozoa, such as mouse, human or cattle. The porcine oocytes were activated by injection of a spermatozoon or an isolated sperm head. Neither isolated sperm tail nor perinuclear material removed sperm head activated oocytes. Because injection of mouse, bovine or human spermatozoon activated porcine oocytes, the sperm born activation factors is not strict species specific. Male pronuclear formation and pronuclear apposition were observed in the porcine oocytes following injection of porcine, bovine, mouse or human spermatozoa. The electrical stimulation following sperm cell injection did not enhance the incidence of male pronuclear formation nor pronuclear apposition comparent with sperm cell injection alone (p>0.1). Mitosis and two cell division in some oocytes were observed at 20 to 24 h after injection of porcine spermatozoon. However, none of oocytes following injection of mouse, bovine or human spermatozoa developed to the mitotic metaphase or normally divided to the two cell stage. These results suggested that the oocyte activating factor(s) presented in the perinuclear material and it is not species specific for the porcine oocyte.

Blast Furnace Slag is good for enhancing the qualities of concrete such as reducing hydration heat increasing fluidity, long-term strength and durability, but it has some problems: construction time is increased or the rotation rate of form is decreased due to low development of early strength. In this study, an aqueous alkali solution for alkali activated reaction was obtained by the electrolysis using concentrated water discharged from seawater desalination process. Prepared aqueous alkali solution was applied to produce mortars using blast furnace slag. The results can be summarized as follows : For the mortar, compressive strength was decreased below 2% of NaOH and increased below 6% of NaOH. And compressive strength was increased gradually with increasing NaOCl contents. However, NaCl contents of mortars caused a decrease of 28days strength above early strength.
A new alkyldithiocarbonate (xanthate), as sodium salts, C2H5OCS2Na, was synthesized by the reaction between CS2 with ethyl alcohol in the presence of NaOH. The new xanthate was characterized by 1H NMR, IR and elemental analysis. Then, the new synthesized compound was examined for functional study of cresolase activity of Mushroom Tyrosinase (MT) from a commercial source of Agricus bisporus in 10 mM phosphate buffer pH 6.8, at three temperatures of 10, 20 and 33℃ using UV spectrophotemetry. 4-[(4-methylphenyl)- azo]-phenol (MePAPh) was used as a synthetic substrate for the enzyme for cresolase reaction. The results show that ethyl xanthate can activate or inhibit the cresolase activity of mushroom tyrosinase depending to the concentration of ethyl xanthate. It was concluded that the enzyme has two distinct sites for ethyl xanthate. The first one is a high-affinity activation site and the other is a low-affinity inhibition site. Activation of the enzyme in the low concentration of ethyl xanthate arises from increasing the affinity of binding for the substrate as well as increasing the enzyme catalytic constant. The affinity of ligand binding in the activation site is decreased by increasing of the temperature, which is the opposite result for the inhibition site. Hence, the nature of the interaction of ethyl xanthate is different in two distinct sites. The binding process for cresolase inhibition is only entropy driven, meanwhile the binding process for cresolase activation is not only entropy driven but also enthalpy driven means that hydrophobic interaction is more important in the inhibition site.
Sodium hydroxide solutions are often employed as sterilization agents in the pharmaceutical industry. Here, the chloride content is considered as a critical impurity. In this study, an electrochemical method was developed to remove chloride ions (Cl-) through the oxidative deposition of AgCl on a Ag anode. The Cl- content in the commercially available 50% w/w NaOH solution employed was approximately 100 mg Cl-/kg NaOH. As the OH- content is approximately 18,000 times higher than the Cl- content, the formation of AgCl may be expected to be thermodynamically less favorable than the formation of Ag2O. However, activation energies for AgCl and Ag2O formation have been reported to be approximately 3.8 and 31.2 kJ/mol, respectively, and indicate that AgCl formation is favored. AgCl can be selectively produced by controlling the anode potential. Here, the Cl- concentration was reduced to less than 50 mg Cl-/kg NaOH when an anode potential of 0.18 or 0.19 V vs. Hg/HgO (reference electrode) was applied for one hour at 50℃. XRD analysis and visual monitoring of the Ag anode confirmed the oxidative deposition of AgCl on the anode surface as well as the electrochemical desalination of the concentrated NaOH solution.
