In this study, we investigated that the effect of alkali metals [Na(Sodium) and K(Potassium)], known as representative deactivating substances among exhaust gases of various industrial processes, on the NH3-SCR (selective catalytic reduction) reaction of V/W/TiO2 catalysts. NO, NH3-TPD (temperature programmed desorption), DRIFT (diffuse reflectance infrared fourier transform spectroscopy analysis), and H2-TPR analysis were performed to determine the cause of the decrease in activity. As a result, each alkali metal acts as a catalyst poisoning, reducing the amount of NH3 adsorption, and Na and K reduce the SCR reaction by reducing the L and B acid points that contribute to the reaction activity of the catalyst. Through the H2-TPR analysis, the alkali metal is considered to be the cause of the decrease in activity because the reduction temperature rises to a high temperature by affecting the reduction temperature of V-O-V (bridge oxygen bond) and V=O (terminal bond).
A series of Pt-based ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ catalysts promoted with several alkali and alkaline earth metals were prepared by a wet impregnation method. We confirmed that the addition of Na to $Pt/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ could cause a change in the oxidation state of Pt through an electronegative gap between Pt and Na atom, and increase the ratio of the metallic Pt. The metallic Pt species made by adding an optimum Na content improved the adsorption of NO species on the catalyst surface and restrained the oxidation of $CH_4$ to $CO_2$. When molar ratio of Na/Pt was 4.0, the highest catalytic activity could be obtained.
Recently, as the climate changes rapidly and the prevalence of airborne fine particulate matter increases, the pattern of pollutants in the atmospheric environment is also changing. Therefore, the importance of studying the stability of pigments used in colored cultural properties is emerging. Hoecheong is an inorganic blue glass pigment called smalt; it is made by using cobalt as a coloring element in potash glass, and was widely used in colored cultural assets, such as murals and paintings. In this study, we collected three other hoecheong pigments to analyze their properties. The percentage of Co and K contained are different according to the manufacturer, and the smalt-3 sample has a lower cobalt content (15.1 wt.%) and higher potassium content (29.6 wt.%). After this analysis, colored specimens were prepared. Prepared specimens were exposed to ultra-violet rays, CO2/NO2, and NaCl, which are known to have the greatest influence on the stability of pigments. We found that factors affecting the color stability were NO2 gas, ultra-violet rays, and water-soluble salts (NaCl). Among them, NO2 has the most severe impact on color change of the pigments. Results of the component analysis showed that the color change depends on the potassium and cobalt content of the hoecheong pigment. Among the specimens, smalt-3 showed the most vulnerability after exposure to NO2 gas and water-soluble salts. Pigment film stability is affected by watersoluble salts, giving rise not only to color change, but also weakening the physical properties of the film. However, there was no significant change in composition and color after exposure to CO2 gas. In conclusion, we found that hoecheong pigments underwent color change and increased instability of the coating film when exposed to any of the atmospheric environmental factors used in this study, except for CO2.
In this study, natural dyeing using Polygonum tinctoria was performed with linen, ramie, and hemp, which are biodegradable cellulose fibers, considering environmental aspects. In particular, the impacts of alkali NaOH and reducing agent Na2S2O4 were examined, and the possibilities of minimizing the use and reusing the dye were explored. The surface dye concentrations were found to be in the following order: hemp>linen>ramie. With the increase in all additives, the L* value decreased, and the ⊿E and K/S values increased gradually. When Na2S2O4 was 1g/L, the surface color of the dye appeared uniformly from the NaOH concentration of 0.4g/L (pH 10.84). When NaOH was 0.4g/L, the K/S values of linen and ramie increased rapidly after 0.4g/L of Na2S2O4, and hemp maintained a stable color from 0.6g/L of Na2S2O4. With the increase in the dye concentration from 1 to 6g/L, all the fibers were dyed uniformly. The K/S value increased or higher doubled upon repeated dyeing six times for 5 min than when dyed only once for 30 min. Therefore, the linen, ramie, and hemp fibers dyed repeatedly exhibited good washing, rubbing, and colorfastness to perspiration, which was rated between 4 and 4-5, and that to light was rated as 5. Moreover, no discoloration due to sunlight was observed. Finally, linen exhibited a bacterial reduction of 99.9%, thereby indicating its excellent antibacterial property.
The goal of this study is to provide basic data to establish a foundation for the provision of safe drinkable water. The raw water of natural mineral water was analyzed to determine the quantities of anions (F-, Cl-, NO3-N-, and SO42- ) and cations (Ca2+, K+, Mg2+, and Na+) during the former and latter half of 2016. Analysis of the current quality of the raw water of natural mineral water among domestic manufacturers showed average anions contents of 0.46mg/L of fluorine, 8mg/L of chlorine ion, 1.5mg/L of nitrate nitrogen, and 12mg/L of sulfate ion. While the fluorine content was greater than the water quality criterion of 2.0mg/L at four points, the fluorine level was overall stable. The average cations contents included 21.3mg/L of calcium, 1.0mg/L of potassium, 3.4mg/L of magnesium, and 9.6mg/L of sodium. The chemical characteristics were compared among the major ions, and the results are presented in a piper diagram. The content ratio of cations was in the order of Ca2+> Na+>Mg2+>K+, whereas that of anions was in the order of SO42->Cl->NO3-N->F-. While the cations were slightly scattered, the anions were generally concentrated except for at a few points. The Ca-Na-HCO3 type was dominant overall in water sources from diorite, gneiss, and granite, while the Na-Mg-Ca-HCO3-Cl type was dominant in basalt sources. Mineral water manufacturers source their water under various conditions, including in-hole casing, excavation depth, and contact state of bedrock; even within the same rocky area, some differences in the water quality type can occur. When the depth of the water source was taken into account, the mean anions contents of F-, Cl-, NO3-N-, and SO42- were similar, with no significant differences according to depth. Of the cations, K+ and Na+ showed no significant differences across all the tubular wells, whereas Ca2+ and Mg2+ decreased in content with depth.
To study the properties of Sr2+ exchange into zeolite A with increasing the molar concentration of Na+ in given exchange solution, four single crystals of fully dehydrated Sr2+- and Na+- exchanged zeolite A were prepared by the bath method using mixed ion-exchange solutions. The Sr(NO3)2:NaNO3 molar rations of the ion exchange solution were 1:1(crystal 1), 1:100(crystal 2), 1:250(crystal 3), and 1:500 (crystal 4), respectively, with a total concentration of 0.05 M. The single-crystals were then vacuum dehydration at 623 K and 1×10-4 Pa for 2 days. Their single-crystal structures were determined by single-crystal synchrotron X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group Pm3-m, at 100(1) K, and were then refined to the final error indices of R1/wR2=0.047/0.146, 0.048/0.142, 0.036/0.128, and 0.040/0.156 for crystals 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively. In crystals 1 and 2, the 6 Sr2+ ions are found at three different crystallographic sites. In crystal 3, 1 Sr2+ and 10 Na+ ions are found in large cavity and sodalite unit. In crystal 4, only 12 Na+ ions occupy three equipoints. The degree of Sr2+ ion-exchange decreased sharply from 100 to 16.7 to 0% as the initial Na+ concentration increase and the Sr2+ concentration decrease. In addition, the unit cell constant of the zeolite framework decreased with this lower level of Sr2+ exchange.
In this study, an experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of the concentrations of tryptone, an organic nitrogen supplement, and sodium tungstate on the growth of microbial and the production of acetic acid and ethanol in the culture of Clostridium ljungdahlii. Microbial growth increased by 144.6%, and ethanol and acetic acid production improved by 8.6% and 36.7%, respectively, when 2.5 g/L of tryptone was added to the medium of the control experiment (0 g/L tryptone). In the experiment with 1 µM Na2WO4·2H2O, which is 100 times higher than the condition of the medium used in the control experiment (0.01 µM Na2WO4·2H2O), there was no significant difference in microbial growth or total production of C2 metabolites, but ethanol production increased and acetic acid production decreased. As a result, the ethanol/acetic acid production ratio increased significantly from 0.24 in the control experiment to 0.56.
To identify the effect of sodium-alternative curing salts on the quality properties of salami through the ripening process, four salami treatments were prepared with different curing salts, T1 (-control, NaCl 1.9%), T2 (+control, NaCl 1.9%+NaNO2 0.01%), T3 (KCl 1.9%+NaNO2 0.01%), and T4 (MgCl2 1.9%+NaNO2 0.01%), under 40 days ripening conditions. Sodium-alternative salts (T3 or T4) showed characteristically different quality traits compared with T2. Especially, T3 had lower pH, water activity, volatile basic nitrogen, and lipid oxidation after 20 days of ripening period, compare with T2 or T4 (p<0.05). Sodium nitrite had critical impact on increased a* values, and T3 showed higher a* values compared with T2 or T4 (p<0.05). Sodium nitrite reduced initial growth of coliforms but sodium-alternative salts did not affect microbial growth patterns. T2-T4 containing sodium nitrite had higher content of umami nucleotide flavor compounds compared with T1, regardless of the chlorine salt species. The combined use of sodium-alternative curing salts and minimal sodium nitrite was found to be an applicable strategy on development of low sodium salami without a trade-off of the product quality.
This study investigated the influence of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and progesterone on acrosome reaction and proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) composition boar sperm. The sperm were diluted with semen extender and incubated with NaHCO3 and progesterone at 38℃, 5% CO2 for 6 h. Plasma membrane integrity and acrosome reaction were analyzed using SYBR14/propidium iodide (PI) and FITC-PNA/PI doubling staining method, and proportion of PUFA was analyzed using gas chromatography. In results, Plasma membrane integrity was significantly decreased in 50 mM NaHCO3 group and acrosome reaction was significantly increased by over the 100 mM NaHCO3 group compared to control group (p < 0.05). In addition, progesterone significantly increased decreased plasma membrane integrity at 100 mM progesterone and acrosome reaction at over the 5.0 µM progesterone (p < 0.05), but there was no difference among the 5.0 to 100 µM groups. PUFAs were significantly decreased in 100 mM NaHCO3 and 50 µM progesterone treatments compared to control group. In summary NaHCO3 and progesterone induce acrosome reaction and reduce PUFA composition in boar sperm, therefore, the results maybe help to understand basically knowledge for the acrosome reaction and PUFA composition in boar sperm.
A long, bis(monodentate), linking Schiff-base ligand L (py-CH=N-$C_6H_4$-N=CH-py) was prepared from 1,4-phenylenediamine and 3-pyridinecarboxaldehyde by the Schiff-base condensation. Ligand L has two terminal pyridyl groups capable of coordinating to metals through their nitrogen atoms. In contrast, the same reaction between 1,2-phenylenediamine and 3-pyridinecarboxaldehyde produced a mixture of imidazol isomers (2-pyridin-3-yl-1H-benzoimidazole), which are connected to one another by the N-H…N hydrogen bonding to form a tetramer. From Zn($NO_3)_2{\cdot}6H_2O$ and ligand L under various conditions, one discrete molecule, trans- [Zn($H_2O)_4L_2]{\cdot}(NO_3)_2{\cdot}(MeOH)_2$, and two 1-D zinc polymers, [Zn$(NO_3)(H_2O)_2(L)]{\cdot}(NO_3){\cdot}(H_2O)_2$ and [Zn(L) (OBC)($H_2O$)], were prepared. In ligand L, the N$\ldots$N separation between the terminal pyridyl groups is 13.994 $\AA$, with their nitrogen atoms at the meta positions (3,3’) in a trans manner. The corresponding N$\ldots$N separations in its compounds range from 13.853 to 14.754 $\AA$.
