  • The purpose of the study was to understand how children age 10-13 select books in libraries and to identify their attitudes toward reading itself and library as a space for reading. The study was conducted within the framework of a qualitative study, and the data was collected from 32 children who visited urban public libraries in Seoul during the summer of 2010 through individual interviews. The data collected were analyzed with QSR NVivo9. The results show that (1) children seem to consider libraries as reading places, (2) children seem to understand that reading is an activity conducive to their learning, (3) children themselves selected their books for reading, (4) children used browsing and keyword searching to find the books they like to read, (5) children mentioned the importance of "their interests" and "appropriateness" in selecting books, and (6) there were a variety of factors affecting children's book selection; titles, cover images and illustrations, accessibility of books, genres and subject areas, treatment, favorite authors and books, and publishers.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide statistical analysis based suggestions on effective methods to take advantage of social network service (SNS) for educational purposes based on investigations of undergraduate students with high utilization of SNS. To achieve this, we conducted an open questionnaire survey and qualitatively analyzed the data using NVivo 10 program. Additionally, to visualize the analysis by education subject of the SNS educational methods, we have divided the data into 3 categories of teacher, student and common area. As a result, our analysis showed that the exchange opinions and discussions, information sharing and learning of contents of questions and answers, surveys, intimacy formation, counseling etc. were of the common area. Furthermore, teacher area included the notice announcement, teaching materials sharing, real-time assessment (quiz), attendance check, assignment grading and feedback, etc. Finally the student area was of project activities (group/individual), prepare and review the shared data, video self learning, peer review and feedback of projects, lecture evaluation, etc.

  • As technology develops, U.S. state archives are using their websites to provide more and more information to state government agencies and the public, and more remote users are accessing and utilizing these websites. This study is the first to investigate how U.S. state archives collect information on their users and use of their archives and how they employ their websites to publicize these activities and their results for their own advocacy. Data was collected by examining and analyzing websites of all U.S. state archives, and the collected data was analyzed by content analysis and NVivo8 software. This study indicates that the websites of most state archives present little information on their users and usage of their archives and that U.S. state archive websites need to employ their websites for advocacy more effectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to orient users' touchpoints in co-design experience, to identify their need via visualized experience map, to recommend valid design information in online e-customization services. A user-centered co-design experience map (UCEM) is adopted to analyze the relation between users' desire and time spent, so as to evaluate the online co-design experiences. Based on evolutionary algorithm and fuzzy theory, data of this study is collected from 30 participants. The data was analyzed by descriptive analysis in SPSS, and frequency query and word cloud in NVivo. Employing design category and evaluating users' time spent, the findings are that (a) vamp color matching is consistent with interview data; (b) supported by qualitative feedback, the virtual experience map played an important role in the co-design process and the visualized interaction process; and (c) participants prefer to get more information and professional help on color matching and exterior design. Based on the findings in design category, future work should be focused on developing a better understanding of design resource recommendations and multi-stakeholder communication.

  • This paper adopts the big data research method, and draws 491 data from the Tianya Forum about the Simultaneous Renting and Purchasing policy of Guangzhou. The qualitative analysis software Nvivo11 is used to cluster the main questions about the Simultaneous Renting and Purchasing policy in the forum. The 36 high-frequency word frequencies are obtained through text clustering. Through rooted theory analysis, the main driving factors for summarizing people's doubts are 9 main categories, 3 core categories, and the model of driving factors for online forums is established. The study finds that resource factors are the most key factor, economic factors are the important drivers, and policy guiding factors are sub-important drivers.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore nursing students' recognition and understanding of the clinical environment of high-risk neonatal nursing care after watching a documentary about the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where high-risk newborns are treated. Methods: This study was a qualitative content analysis. In total, 151 nursing students' personal essays describing their reactions to a documentary about the NICU were analyzed using the NVivo 12 program. Results: Nursing students' experiences of engaging with a documentary about the NICU were structured into four thematic categories: 'actual observations of the imagined NICU', 'observation and recognition of nursing knowledge', 'empathy with people related to the baby', and 'establishing attitudes and values as a nurse'. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it is suggested that documentaries can be applied in nursing education about high-risk newborns.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore an intrinsic concept of 'company innovativeness' based on qualitative data obtained from 54 practitioners with at least 5 year-experience in the industry. Data were analyzed based on the grounded theory and Nvivo 2.0 program. Based on results, seven theme were generated. Seven intrinsic theme include 5 intrinsic concepts such as learning orientation, excellence of human resource, treatment for employees, market orientation and work efficiency, and 2 performance concepts such as business performance and innovation performance. These diverse concepts were considered as an important guideline in judging whether a company is innovative or not. In addition, diverse programs were provided by companies for a purpose of enhancing company innovativeness. Based on results, a research model was suggested to be elaborated in future studies. Implications and suggestions were generated based on results.

  • It is recent that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education emerged as a great concern of the U.S. policy makers in terms of securing national and regional competitiveness. However, few attempts to embrace STEM education as a source for sustainable regional growth have been made mainly due to methodological challenges. This paper investigates the role of STEM education in achieving sustainable economic growth. For the purpose of the paper, a U.S. federal workforce development program named Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) in Southeastern Virginia that was implemented between 2007 and 2010 is selected and evaluated qualitatively. By identifying three themes as a result of three-stage coding methods, the evaluation results call for particular attention of local policy makers and key stakeholders to STEM education as a source of sustainable long-term economic growth in regions.

  • The competition between countries became internationalized in the market. However, a situation in which globalization is concerned is important to domestic corporates. Corporate strategy to survive in the domestic market are also juggling the limit of survival. Technology transfer and commercialization at this point has important implications now. The same applies to the national level. Public-to-private technology transfer has been more important, in order to overcome the international competitions. Although various studies have been made to promote technology transfer, in the livestock sector rarely attempted. Taking into account that few previous research and theory development has been achieved, the paper explored the technology transfer phenomenon in the sector employing the grounded theory approach by Strauss & Corbin(1998). Corporates that licensed in technologies through the Foundation of Agri. Tech. Commercialization & Transfer, were targeted as informants or interviewees. Finally, eight informants were selected sequentially utilizing theoretical sampling technique to the saturation point. As the result of open coding and axial coding of the interview data using NVivo10 by QSR International, 77 concepts, 20 sub-categories, and 7 categories were derived while paradigm model was established. Through selective coding, 'the factors affecting technology transfer in livestock sector' was identified as core category. The story line about the core category was developed based on four main categories. Finally, it is expected that the concepts, categories, and the relationship between them can be an important basis for further research.
