  • In this study, as a part of research which is to make 50kg NSI turnout of PC sleeper, the main objective of this study is the optimization of PC sleeper's section, the number of PS tension wire. For this purpose, the finite element analysis was conducted to evaluate the serviceability and the safety of NSI PC sleeper developed. Analytical results showed that PC sleeper adapted in this study satisfied not only serviceability criterion but also safety criterion.

Advance Reservation Framework with Protection Management for Virtual Circuit Services (가상회선 서비스를 위해 보호 관리 기능을 갖는 사전 예약 프레임워크)

  • The most representative research network in Korea, KREONET, has developed DynamicKL, an advance reservation based Network Service Agent (NSA) for user driven virtual circuit services. DynamicKL provides reservation, provisioning, release, termination, and inquiry web services for network resources by using an open standard network service interface (NSI), as well as web services for network resources by using a GUI interface. In addition, it has the RICE interface to support a protection management function per VC for virtual circuits and reservations. In this article, a protection management per VC for provisioned VCs and reservations is addressed in the DynamicKL framework, as a contribution to the VC protection management issue, which results in more manageable and reliable VC services compared to other advance reservation frameworks. An administrator can detect successful or unsuccessful VC protections in the event of a primary link failure and successful or unsuccessful VC retrievals after a primary link repair, by using RICE.

Preparation and Evaluation of Dried Noodles Using Barley-Wheat and Barley-Soybean Flours (보리-밀 및 보리-콩 복합분(複合粉)의 제면성(製麵性) 및 제품특성(製品特性)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • A barley (20-30%)-wheat (80-70%) flour gave generally acceptable noodle-making characteristics, in which naked barley flour showed somewhat better results than covered barley flour. And also for over 40% barley flour in the barley-wheat flour, the addition of xanthan gum improved the noodle-making characteristics. A naked barley-defatted soy flour could make dried noodles with only high NSI (Nitrogen Solubility Index) defatted soy flour, however this mixture was not considered to be feasible for noodle-making. In cooking characteristics of barley-wheat flour noodles, naked barley flour was more acceptable than covered barley flour and xanthan gum influenced the water absorption and volume expansion of noodles during cooking. The firmness, cohesiveness and gumminess in cooked noodles made of the barley-wheat flour increased and then decreased as the amounts of barley increased. The mixing of defatted soy flour (high NSI) to naked barley flour increased the firmness and gumminess of cooked noodles.

The Changes of Types of Nutritional Risk and Nutritional Intake according to Depression and Self-esteem among the Elderly in Chunnam Province (전남지역 노인에서 우울 및 자아존중감의 인식정도에 따른 영양위험도 및 영양소 섭취량의 변화 양상)

  • This study was conducted in order to identify the relationship between psychological factors, such as depression and self-esteem, and nutritional status, such as nutritional risk index and nutrient intake, among the elderly in Chunnam Province. The participants were 119 elderly individuals over the age of 65 years who visited the Senior Welfare Center in Chunnam province between January 29 and February 2, 2007. This study was conducted using a structured questionnaire that included, the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), General Self Efficacy Scale (GSES), Nutritional Screening Initiative Checklist (NSI checklist), questions pertaining to the general characteristics of the participants and an estimation of nutrient intake using the 24-hour recall method. Data were analyzed by the SPSS program. Analysis of the participant's CES-D scores revealed that 43.7% of the subjects were normal and 56.3% had more than mild depression. The mean GSES score was 45.9 for the entire group of subjects (51.9 for men, 43.6 for women). The mean nutritional risk index value was 4.30 (5.03 for men, 4.01 for women). Analysis of the participant's scores on the NSI checklist revealed that 69.7% of the subjects were normal and 30.3% exhibited a moderate nutritional risk. The CES-D was positively correlated with the NSI checklist (p < 0.05) but negatively correlated with nutrient intake. However, the GSES was negatively correlated with the NSI checklist (p < 0.05), but positively correlated with nutrient intake (P < 0.01 for protein, calcium, phosphorus, zinc etc.). The results of this study indicate that it is necessary to manage psychological factors, including depression and self-esteem, in the elderly in order to decrease their nutritional risk and increase their nutrient intake.

Sentiment Analysis of News Based on Generative AI and Real Estate Price Prediction: Application of LSTM and VAR Models (생성 AI기반 뉴스 감성 분석과 부동산 가격 예측: LSTM과 VAR모델의 적용)

  • Real estate market prices are determined by various factors, including macroeconomic variables, as well as the influence of a variety of unstructured text data such as news articles and social media. News articles are a crucial factor in predicting real estate transaction prices as they reflect the economic sentiment of the public. This study utilizes sentiment analysis on news articles to generate a News Sentiment Index score, which is then seamlessly integrated into a real estate price prediction model. To calculate the sentiment index, the content of the articles is first summarized. Then, using AI, the summaries are categorized into positive, negative, and neutral sentiments, and a total score is calculated. This score is then applied to the real estate price prediction model. The models used for real estate price prediction include the Multi-head attention LSTM model and the Vector Auto Regression model. The LSTM prediction model, without applying the News Sentiment Index (NSI), showed Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) values of 0.60, 0.872, and 1.117 for the 1-month, 2-month, and 3-month forecasts, respectively. With the NSI applied, the RMSE values were reduced to 0.40, 0.724, and 1.03 for the same forecast periods. Similarly, the VAR prediction model without the NSI showed RMSE values of 1.6484, 0.6254, and 0.9220 for the 1-month, 2-month, and 3-month forecasts, respectively, while applying the NSI led to RMSE values of 1.1315, 0.3413, and 1.6227 for these periods. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model in predicting apartment transaction price index and its ability to forecast real estate market price fluctuations that reflect socio-economic trends.

Guidance Law for Near Space Interceptor based on Block Backstepping Sliding Mode and Extended State Observer

  • This paper proposes a novel guidance law based on the block backstepping sliding mode control and extended state observer (ESO), which also takes into account the autopilot dynamic characteristics of the near space interceptor (NSI), and the impact angle constraint of attacking the maneuvering target. Based on the backstepping control approach, the target maneuvers and the parameter uncertainties of the autopilot are regarded as disturbances of the outer loop and inner loop, respectively. Then, the ESO is constructed to estimate the target acceleration and the inner loop disturbance, and the block backstepping sliding model guidance law is employed, based on the estimated disturbance value. Furthermore, in order to avoid the "explosion of complexity" problem, first-order low-pass filters are also introduced, to obtain differentiations of the virtual control variables. The stability of the closed-loop guidance system is also proven, based on the Lyapunov theory. Finally, simulation results demonstrate that the proposed guidance law can not only overcome the influence of the autopilot dynamic delay and target maneuvers, but also obtain a small miss distance.

Analysis of Sensing Mechanisms in a Gold-Decorated SWNT Network DNA Biosensor

  • We show that carbon nanotube sensors with gold particles on the single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) network operate as Schottky barrier transistors, in which transistor action occurs primarily by varying the resistance of Au-SWNT junction rather than the channel conductance modulation. Transistor characteristics are calculated for the statistically simplified geometries, and the sensing mechanisms are analyzed by comparing the simulation results of the MOSFET model and Schottky junction model with the experimental data. We demonstrated that the semiconductor MOSFET effect cannot explain the experimental phenomena such as the very low limit of detection (LOD) and the logarithmic dependence of sensitivity to the DNA concentration. By building an asymmetric concentric-electrode model which consists of serially-connected segments of CNTFETs and Schottky diodes, we found that for a proper explanation of the experimental data, the work function shifts should be ~ 0.1 eV for 100 pM DNA concentration and ~ 0.4 eV for $100{\mu}M$.

  • This article introduces the five functions of the national innovation system(NIS). As one of social systems in the national level, the five generic functions of open system - production, boundary spanning, maintenance, adaptation, management functions - are applied to the NIS. The production function is the primary process, which produces innovative products and services of the NIS. The boundary spanning function is the function of procuring input and disposing the innovation output or aiding in these processes. Experienced R&D human resources, R&D funds, technology etc. are some of the components of the input of the NIS. The maintenance function is responsible for maintaining smooth operation and upkeeping the system in terms of various conditions. The adaptation function is to help the system change and adapt, and scan the environment for problems, opportunites, and technological developments. It has outward orientation, from the long-term view for the survival of the system. The management function carries out planning and control of the overall activities for the other four functions in order to effectiving run the system as a whole. Finally, this article discusses implications of the diagnosis of the national innovation system and the decision making process of S&T policy.

A Study on the Nutrient Intake, Health Risk Factors, Blood Health Status in Elderly Korean Women Living Alone (일부지역 저소득층 독거노인의 영양소 섭취, 영양위험도 및 생화학 지표에 관한 조사연구)

  • This purpose of this study was to investigate the nutrient intake, the health status as determined self-assessment checklist, biochemical indicators of elderly Korean women. We interviewed and 55 female subjects living alone in the Urban aged over 65 years. Information on their dietary intake was collected by 24-hour Recall method. Their health status was determined by a NSI checklist. Biochemical indicators were performed in whole blood and plasma of subjects. Except for protein, Fe, all of the elderly subjects belonged to over moderate nutritional risk. The average daily nutrient intake of the elderly was below the level of the recommended dietary allowances (RDA) for Koreans. A relationship between their health risk score and nutrient intake was observed negatively (not significantly). They had a risk of anemia as hemoglobin and hematocrit of subjects were under the normal value. Therefore, the reason that health risk score and health status badly was thought for lower nutrient intake.
