Radio Propagation Model and Spatial Correlation Method-based Efficient Database Construction for Positioning Fingerprints (위치추정 전자지문기법을 위한 전파전달 모델 및 공간상관기법 기반의 효율적인 데이터베이스 생성)

  • This paper presents a fingerprint database construction method for WLAN RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator)-based indoor positioning. When RSSI is used for indoor positioning, the fingerprint method can achieve more accurate positioning than trilateration and centroid methods. However, a FD (Fingerprint Database) must be constructed before positioning. This step is a very laborious process. To reduce the drawbacks of the fingerprint method, a radio propagation model-based FD construction method is presented. In this method, an FD can be constructed by a simulator. Experimental results show that the constructed FD-based positioning has a 3.17m (CEP) error. In this paper, a spatial correlation method is presented to estimate the NLOS(Non-Line of Sight) error included in the FD constructed by a simulator. As a result, the NLOS error of the FD is reduced and the performance of the error compensated FD-based positioning is improved. The experimental results show that the enhanced FD-based positioning has a 2.58m (CEP) error that is a reasonable performance for indoor LBS (Location Based Service).

  • This paper investigates the effect of antenna polarization in Wireless Body Area Network(WBAN) off-body channel. The polarizations of antenna are divided into four combinations regarding Line-of-Sight(LOS) and Non-LOS(NLOS) environment. The human body keeps both still standing and moving to show that the impact of the polarization to signal. This paper confirms the performance depending on the polarization of receiver antenna and the combination of the polarizations on the off-body channel.

  • The challenge of penetrating obstacles along with impact from weak multipath effects makes 60GHz signal very difficult to be transmitted in non-line of sight (NLOS) channel. So 60GHz system is vulnerable to obstructions and thus likely results in link interruption. While the application of cooperative technology to solve link blockage problemin 60GHz system should consider the characteristic of directional transmission for 60GHz signal. Therefore in this paper a system is proposed to solve the link blockage problem in 60GHz NLOS communication environment based on the concept of cooperation and also the beamforming technology, which is the basis of directional transmission for 60GHz communication system. The process of anti-blockage solution with cooperative communication is presented in detail, and the fast switching and recovery schemes are well designed. The theoretical values of symbol error rate (SER) using decode and forward (DF) cooperation and amplify and forward (AF) cooperation are presented respectively when the common channel interference exists. Simulation results demonstrate that the performance based on DF cooperation is better than the performance based on AF cooperation when directional transmission is used.

Analysis of Errors in Prediction Results of Ray Tracing Propagation Model for Microcellular Environments (마이크로셀 전파 환경에서 광선 추적법에 의한 예측 결과의 오차에 관한 분석)

  • In this paper, we analyze various errors in prediction results of ray tracing propagation model for microcellular environments. It is shown that improper electrical parameters of building materials and limitations of diffraction orders can cause high errors in prediction results. Especially, the effect of errors in building database on prediction results is considered in detail. It is also shown that the prediction error increases as the resolution of building map data is getting worse, and the error is analyzed depending on LOS and NLOS domains. Based on the results obtained by the analysis developed in this paper, 5 m resolution is suitable for the building map data if the maximum prediction error is required to be below 6 dB.

  • TOA(time-of-arrival) and TDOA(time-difference-of-arrival) positioning techniques are commonly used in many radio-navigation systems. From the literature, it is known that the position estimate and error covariance matrix of TDOA obtained by GN(Gauss-Newton) method is exactly the same as that of TOA when the error source of the range measurement is only an IID white Gaussian noise. In case of geo-location and indoor positioning, however, multi-path or NLOS(non-line-of-sight) error is frequently appeared in range measurements. Though its occurrence is random, the multipath acts like a bias for a stationary user if it occurs. This paper presents the comparisons of error characteristics between TOA and TDOA positioning in presence of multi-path or NLOS error. It is analytically shown that the position estimate of TDOA is exactly the same as that of TOA even when bias errors are included in range measurements with different magnitudes. By computer simulation, position estimation error and error distribution are analyzed in presence of range bias errors.

  • In this paper, channel modeling and analysis of wireless visible light communication(VLC) were studied in indoor circumstance. Photons emitted from LED straightly moved and navigated within indoor, after that a part of photons reached on PD via LOS(Line Of Sight) or NLOS(None Line Of Sight). These received signals had characteristics of delay profile and attenuation, which was multiple-path fading. In this paper, computer simulation of VLC channel was executed under the condition that two LEDs were used for transmitter and three PDs were located at different positions of the 20*8*2.3m sized indoor. BER performance simulation was excuted based on the characteristics of each VLC channel.

  • According to the advent of the ubiquitous environment, not only a location based service at the outside but also a location based service at the inside was more increased socially. Accordingly, this paper proposes the efficient determination system to locate a object in frequent change of indoor environment. Proposing system in this paper introduce the NLOS identification and mitigation to resolve NLOS problem, using this way that corrects location data as RWA and KF apply to result data can improve accuracy of a object. At last we are going to compare and analyze existing typical triangulation with proposed indoor location determination system to demonstrate algorithm efficiency for proposed indoor location determination system.

  • SPWPM traditional software development is surveyed and essential problems are investigated on the basis of system wireless link considerations. This paper presents the current state software planning tools for wireless LAN link optimization. The software directory is based on combination of MatLab and MapInfo software and measurement which gives the best grouping parameters to build up the software development. Among the requirements assumed, the WLAN site selections must be Line-of-sight (LOS) or near line of sight (NLOS) field strength prediction for either point to point or point to multi points. The results obtainable the out put of the program include two-dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D) plots for creating the link; design parameters through GUI representing the height and location for each antenna is depending on K-factor of the area and transmit antenna location.

  • The localization performance in the ship environment is degraded by RF interference due to steel structure characteristics and NLOS environment. In this paper, a wireless hybrid localization system using ZigBee, UWB, and LF technologies is proposed to improve position estimation accuracy in the ship environment.

Propagation Measurements of Various Directional Beam in Subway funnel Environments for IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11 무선랜을 위한 지하철 터널 환경에서 다양한 지향성 빔의 전파측정)

  • In this paper, radio propagation in a subway tunnel is investigated using fan beam antennas, circular polarization antennas and directional antennas at 2.4㎓ and 5.8㎓ band, respectively. The results of narrowband channel measurements show that received power level for NLOS(Non-Line-Of-Sight) path is decreased drastically as compared with LOS(Line-Of-Sight) path. Wideband channel measurements are obtained using a PN sliding correlation method. The parameters of the channel such as mean access delay and RMS delay spread are compared as to different types of directional beam at IEEE 802.11 WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) band including 2.4㎓ and 5.8㎓ bands, respectively.
