  • The design, management, and operation of network infrastructure have evolved during the last few years, leveraging on innovative technologies and architectures. With such a huge trend, due to the flexibility and significant economic potential of these technologies, software defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) are emerging as the most critical key enablers. SDN/NFV enhancing the infrastructure agility, thus network operators and service providers are able to program their own network functions (e.g., gateways, routers, load balancers) on vendor independent hardware substrate. They facilitating the design, delivery and operation of network services in a dynamic and scalable manner. In NFV, the management and orchestration (MANO) orchestrates other specific managers such as the virtual infrastructure manager (VIM) and the VNF Manager (VNFM). In this paper, we examine the contents of these NFV MANO systematically and proposes a security system in a virtualized environment.

  • SDN and NFV are next-generation network technologies, and cloud, such as data centers, campuses, and large companies, has been established, or is actively applied by service-oriented communication companies. In particular, the Defense Integrated Data Center will be a prime example for military applications. In order for the Defense Integrated Data Center (DIDC) to become an intelligent center, it is accelerating the promotion of the "Smart Defense Integrated Data Center", which applied the latest information and communication technology (ICT). At the time of the establishment of DIDC, it plans to start building infrastructure such as cloud services at around 30% level, and expand D-Cloud to 75% through 'Cloud First'. In addition, the introduction of SDN/NFV will reduce the operation cost and manpower of DIDC, strengthen the ability to efficiently use information resources and cyber information protection systems, and increase flexibility and agility in using each system to improve efficiency in defense management in the future. Therefore, we will discuss the justification and expected effects of SDN/NFV introduction, focusing on DIDC.

  • Network Function Virtualization (NFV) is a key technology of 5G networks that has the advantage of enabling building and operating networks flexibly. However, NFV can complicate network management because it creates numerous virtual resources that should be managed. In NFV environments, service function chaining (SFC) composed of virtual network functions (VNFs) is widely used to apply a series of network functions to traffic. Therefore, it is required to dynamically allocate the right amount of computing resources or instances to SFC for meeting service requirements. In this paper, we propose Deep Q-Networks (DQN)-based auto-scaling to operate the appropriate number of VNF instances in SFC. The proposed approach not only resizes the number of VNF instances in SFC composed of multi-tier architecture but also selects a tier to be scaled in response to dynamic traffic forwarding through SFC.

  • Recently, researching using big data and AI has emerged as a major issue in the ICT field. But, the size of big data for research is growing exponentially. In addition, users of data transmission of existing network method suggest that the problem the time taken to send and receive big data is slower than the time to copy and send the hard disk. Accordingly, researchers require dynamic and flexible network technology that can transmit data at high speed and accommodate various network structures. SDN/NFV technologies can be programming a network to provide a network suitable for the needs of users. It can easily solve the network's flexibility and security problems. Also, the problem with performing AI is that centralized data processing cannot guarantee real-time, and network delay occur when traffic increases. In order to solve this problem, the edge-computing technology, should be used which has moved away from the centralized method. In this paper, we investigate the concept and research trend of SDN, NFV, and edge-computing technologies, and analyze the trends of data central network technologies used by combining these three technologies.

  • The creation of the Defense Integrated Data Center(DIDC) has resulted in a reduction in manpower, operating costs, efficient and effective management of resources. However, it is difficult to effectively collect and manage the data of a large number of battlefields coming from equipments such as drones, robots, and IoT added to the fourth industrial revolution and the future battlefield. Therefore, we will propose the design of DIDC network system using NFV and SDN, which are emerging as the core technologies of 5G, a mobile communication technology. After analyzing the data sheet of each equipment, it is considered that by integrating the redundant functions, energy efficiency, resource utilization and effective network management will be possible.

  • NFV is a technology that allows network services to be controlled and managed in software by separating various net work functions (NFs) from hardware devices in dedicated network equipment and implementing them in a high-performance general-purpose server. Therefore, standardized virtualization of network functions is one of the most important factors. However, until the introduction of NFV to provide commercial services, there are many technical issues to be solved such as guaranteeing performance, stability, support for multi-vendor environment, ensuring perfect interoperability, and linking existing virtual and non-virtual resources. In this paper, we propose a method to provide an end-to-end network virtualization service based on OSM R2 in KREONET.
