Combustion and Microexplosion of AI/Liquid Fuel Slurry Droplets(II)-Theoretical Study- (Al/액체연료 슬러리 액적의 연소와 미세폭발 (II)-이론적 연구-)

  • The microexplosion of a slurry droplet was considered to be caused by the shell formation and the following pressure build-up in the shell which would be promoted by the suppression of evaporation, subsequent superheating and heterogeneous nucleation of liquid carrier. To closely investigate the pressure build-up and the heterogeneous nucleation, a numerical model was introduced by considering the internal temperature distributions with the shell formation, suppression of evaporation and pressure build-up inside. The microexplosion time was estimated by postulating the limit of superheat for heterogeneous nucleation. The simulation yielded a reasonably good agreement with experimental results for Al/n-heptane slurry droplets under various solid loadings.

  • The effects of premixed fuels(diesel or n-heptane) and exhaust gas recirculation on combustion and exhaust emission characteristics in a DI diesel engine were experimentally investigated. To improve homogeneity of fuel-air mixture in the conventional diesel engine, the premixed fuel is injected by high pressure(5.5 MPa) into the premixing chamber prior to engine cylinder, And several additional systems such as an EGR system, air heating system and back pressure control system were equipped in the DI diesel engine. The results showed that premixed fuel-air mixture undergoes typical HCCI combustion prior to the combustion of DI diesel fuel. The ignition timing of HCCI combustion is delayed by application of EGR, and it also shows that HCCI combustion can be controlled by an EGR.

  • Homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) was the best concept able to provide low NOx and PM in diesel engine emissions. This new alternative combustion process was mainly controlled by chemical kinetics in comparison with the conventional combustion in internal combustion engine. In this paper, detailed kinetic reaction mechanisms of diesel surrogate was investigated to understand the diesel HCCI engine combustion. It was tested two existing mechanisms and two new mechanisms for the comparison of experimental result. The best mechanism for diesel surrogate was suggested through this comparison.

Separation of Cr(VI) from Heavy Metal Salts Mixed Solution by using Hollow Fiber Module (실관막모듈에 의한 중금속염 혼합용액으로부터 Cr(VI) 분리)

  • This work reports the application of a hollow fiber module(HFM) for Cr(VI) extraction from heavy metal salts mixed solution by using microporous hydrophobic hollow fiber module. In HFM configuration, the organic extraction used for the extraction of Cr(VI) was di-(2-ethyl hexyl) phosphoric acid(D2EHPA) diluted with n-heptane. The study of HFM includes the influence of hydrodynamic and chemical condition, i.e., the flow rate of feed solution, the time of reactive extraction, the concentration of feed solution, and the pH of aqueous phase solutions. Several experiments with synthetic solution of different mixed components system of Cr(VI) solutions established optimum condition to achieve a clean separation of Cr(VI). It was possible to separate Cr(VI) in the presence of metal salts mixed solution, such as Zn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Cd(II) using the HFM technique.

Studies on The Lypolitic Enzymes of Carum Roxburgllianum Seed Meal

  • The lipase and phospholipase activities of meals of resting seeds of C. roxburghianum were studied at different temperatures, solvents and pH. Both the enzymes showed the maximum activities at $40^{\circ}C$ and in n-heptane used as solvent. However, lipase showed maximum activities at two different pH, one at pH 5 (acidic) and other at pH 8 (alkaline) whereas phospholipase showed only one pH optimum at pH 8. During the course of germination, the lipase showed an increase whereas reverse was the case with phospholipase.

  • 왕복동 내연기관에서의 연소 및 배기가스 생성은 복잡한 3차원 영역 내에서 난류 유동, 분무, 화학반응, 열전달, 경계층 현상이 상호 연계되어 있는 매우 복합적인 과정이다. 특히 난류 연소 현상은 기관의 효율을 결정하는 연소 속도와 pollutant의 배출 농도를 결정하는 핵심 요소로서 관련 모델과 수치 해법에 대해 학술적, 공학적 측면에서 세계적으로 활발한 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 이를 위해 수행되는 다양한 실험 측정과 수치 해법을 통해 얻어지는 3차원 과도 상태의 방대한 스칼라량과 벡터량에 대한 정보를 효율적으로 처리하기 위해서는 적절한 가시화 과정이 필수적이다. 여기서는 최근 다양한 엔진 타입들에 대한 응용 사례와 함께 난류 연소 모델링을 위한 새로운 접근법으로서 조건평균법(conditional averaging)에 대해 간략히 소개하고자 한다. 난류예혼합연소에서의 난류화염속도에 대한 DNS와 영역조건평균에 기초한 예측식의 검증, 천연가스 jet의 자발화 지연기간, n-heptane jet의 자발화 진행 과정, HSDI 엔진, HCCI 엔진, CNG 엔진, LPG 분무 및 엔진, GDI 엔진 등에 대한 연구 결과들은 정보 가시화의 한 사례가 될 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

  • Droplet combustion at high ambient pressures is studied numerically by formulating one dimensional combustion model in the mixture of n-heptane fuel and air. The ambient pressure is supercritical conditions. The modified Soave-Redlich-Kwong state equation is used in the evaluation of thermophysical properties to account for the real gas effect on fluid p-v-T properties in high pressure conditions. Non-ideal thermodynamic and transport property at near critical and supercritical conditions are also considered. Several parametric studies are performed by changing ambient pressure and initial droplet diameter. Droplet lifetime decreased with increasing pressure. Surface temperature increased with increasing pressure. Ignition time increased with increasing initial droplet diameter. Temporal or spatial distribution of mass fraction, mass diffusivity, Lewis number, thermal conductivity, and specific heat were presented.

  • The hydrodenitrogenation of quinoline dissolved in n-heptane was studied over sulfided Ni-Mo/$\gamma-Al_2O_3$ catalyst at the range of the temperature between 553 K and 673 and the total pressure between $20 \times 10^5$ Pa and $60 \times 10^5$ Pa in a fixed bed flow reactor. Quinoline conversion was very high at relatively low temperature and total pressure, and decreased with quinoline partial pressure. The thermodynamic equilibrium between quinoline and Py-THQ existed in wide ranges of experimental conditions and shifted in favor of quinoline at higher temperature. At the range of the temperature betwwen 553 K and 673 K and at the total pressure $60 \times 10^5$ Pa, the quinoline reaction rate was 1st order with respect to the concentr4ation of quinoline and its apparent activation energy was 7.15 Kcal/mole.

  • A series of supported sulfided Ni-W/$\gamma-Al_2O_3$ and Co-W/$\gamma-Al_2O_3$ catalysts with different nickel and cobalt contents were studied in the hydrodenitrogenation of pyridine dissolved in n-heptane. The ranges of experimental conditions were at the temperatures between 453 and 753 K, and the pressures between 30 and 50 Bar. The catalytic activities with different nickel and cobalt contents were shown to be maximum at Ni/Ni+W = 0.2 - 0.3, Co/Co+W = 0.3 - 0.4. Pyridine conversion increased with pressure and temperature and the step of piperidine formation was found to be irreversible. The reaction orders in Ni-W/$\gamma-Al_2O_3$ and Co-W/$\gamma-Al_2O_3$ catalysts were the first with respect to pyridine and reaction rate constants decreased with increase of initial pyridine concentration and their activation energies were 12.98 and 9.23 kcal/mol, respectively.

  • 3D DNS is performed for n-heptane spray turbulent jet combustion. Diesel-like conditions are considered including single and multiple injections. Conditional statistics are obtained for multiple Lagrangian flame groups of sequentially evaporating fuel. Each fuel group represents the conditional statistics of an independent Lagrangian flame group. Sequentially evaporating fuel goes through different histories and residence times over the ignition delay period. Multiple flame groups are required for accurate description of combustion of a spray jet that goes through a long injection duration or multiple injections.
