  • Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the stability of prosthetic screws from three types of craniofacial prostheses retention systems (bar-clip, ball/O-ring, and magnet) when submitted to mechanical cycling. Materials and Methods: Twelve models of acrylic resin were used with implants placed 20 mm from each other and separated into three groups: (1) bar-clip (Sistema INP, São Paulo, Brazil), (2) ball/O-ring (Sistema INP), and (3) magnet (Metalmag, São Paulo, Brazil), with four samples in each group. Each sample underwent a mechanical cycling removal and insertion test (f=0.5 Hz) to determine the torque and the detorque values of the retention screws. A servo-hydraulic MTS machine (810-Flextest 40; MTS Systems, Eden Prairie, MN, USA) was used to perform the cycling with 2.5 mm and a displacement of 10 mm/s. The screws of the retention systems received an initial torque of 30 Ncm and the torque values required for loosening the screw values were obtained in three cycles (1,080, 2,160, and 3,240). The screws were retorqued to 30 Ncm before each new cycle. Results: The sample was composed of 24 screws grouped as follows: bar-clip (n=8), ball/O-ring (n=8), and magnet (n=8). There were significant differences between the groups, with greater detorque values observed in the ball/O-ring group when compared to the bar-clip and magnet groups for the first cycle. However, the detorque value was greater in the bar-clip group for the second cycle. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that all prosthetic screws will loosen slightly after an initial tightening torque, also the bar-clip retention system demonstrated greater loosening of the screws when compared with ball/O-ring and magnet retention systems.

  • A fast and simple sampling and sample preparation device, (NTD) has been developed and applied to sample and analyze volatile components from ground coffee beans. Coffee fragrances and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were sampled by the NTD and then analyzed by gas chromatograph-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Divinylbenzene (DVB) particles (80/100 mesh size) were the sorbent bed of the NTD. More than 150 volatile components were first identified based on the database of the mass library and then finally 30 fragrances including caffeine were further confirmed by comparing experimental retention indices (i.e. Kovat index) with literature retention indices. Total sampling time was 10 minutes and no extra solvent extraction and/or reconstitution step need. Straight n-alkanes (C6-C20) were used as retention index probes for the calculation of experimental retention indices. In addition, this report suggests that an empty needle can be an alternative platform for analyzing polymers by pyrolysis-GC/MS.

  • Electron injection and memory retention chracteristics of the MNOS devices with thin oxide layer of 23${\AA}$ thick and silicon nitride layer of 1000${\AA}$ thick which are fabricated for this experiment. As a result, pulse amplitude increase oxide current is dominated in linearly increasing region of $\Delta$V$\_$FB/the decreasing region after saturation was due to the increased silicon nirtide current. In low pulse ampiltude $\Delta$V$\_$FB/ is not variated on temperature, but as temperature and pulse amplitude increase. $\Delta$V$\_$FB/ is decreased after saturation. And the decay rate during 10$^4$sec after electron injection was ohiefly dominated by the back tunneling of emission from memory trap to silicon. Memory retention characteristics in V$\_$FB/ stage was better than that of OV retention regardless of injection conditions.

  • Treatment with the enzyme pectinase has been reported to lower the cationic demand of thermomechanical pulp(TMP) bleached with alkaline peroxide in the laboratory. We have extended this discovery to bleached TMP produced industrially, and shown that commercial enzyme preparations can treat pulp within 15 minutes at the at the temperature and pH values prevalent in paper mills. About half of the cationic demand in the bleached pulp can be destroyed by pectinase. Dynamic drainage jar experiments show that the enzyme treatment improves the effectiveness of several cationic polymers to increase retention in the absence of retention aids or with non-ionic polymers, and does not damage the strength properties of the pulp. Pectinase could be easily incorporated into paper machine stock preparation systems to lower the charges of cationic retention aids needed in furnishes containing peroxide-bleached mechanical pulp.

  • Poly(p-tert-butyltrimethoxymonopropyloxycalix[4]arene-methylsiloxane) (TBCX-MS) has been prepared and used as a stationary phase in isothermal capillary gas chromatographic separation of some positional isomers. Retention factors (k) and separatio n factors $(\alpha)$ for the isomers were measured and compared with those on poly(p-tert-butyl-dimethoxydipropyloxycalix[4]arene-tetramethyldisiloxane) (TBCX-TMDS), poly(dimethoxydipropyloxycalix[4]arenetetramethyl-disiloxane) (CX-TMDS). Most of the isomers investigated are well resolved on TBCX-MS. Retention of all the compounds decreases on the three phases in the order, TBCX-TMDS ${\geq}$ TBCX-MS > CX-TMDS. Similar retention values on TBCX-TMDS and TBCX-MS seem to indicate that retention property of the two phases is not significantly affected by the spatial position of the calixarene moiety.

  • The anaerobic digester supernatant (ADS) with high $NH_4-N$ concentration often results in a $NH_4-N$ overloading to the mainstream process of municipal wastewater treatment plant (MWTP). The nitrogen removal from the ADS is therefore important in order to achieve a stable mainstream process performance as well as to prevent $NH_4-N$ overloading due to ADS. Recently because of several advantages compared to the full nitrification, many works have shown interests in controlling the build-up of $NO_2-N$ in nitritation processes. The application of nitritation could save the aeration power compared to the full nitrification processes. In addition, the denitrification of $NO_2-N$ could reduce organic carbon requirements compared to the $NO_3-N$ denitrification. The purpose of this research was to find out the characteristics of the ADS nitritation and $NO_2-N$ accumulating factors from the laboratory reactor study. As a result based on the long-term laboratory experiment, it can be concluded that the degree of nitritation was closely related with the availability of alkalinity, free ammonia (FA), solid retention time (SRT) and solid concentration in the nitritation reactor.

  • Background and Purpose: To analyze $^{18}F-THK5351$ positron emission tomography (PET) scans of patients with clinically diagnosed nonfluent/agrammatic variant primary progressive aphasia (navPPA). Methods: Thirty-one participants, including those with Alzheimer's disease (AD, n=13), navPPA (n=3), and those with normal control (NC, n=15) who completed 3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging, $^{18}F-THK5351$ PET scans, and detailed neuropsychological tests, were included. Voxel-based and region of interest (ROI)-based analyses were performed to evaluate retention of $^{18}F-THK5351$ in navPPA patients. Results: In ROI-based analysis, patients with navPPA had higher levels of THK retention in the Broca's area, bilateral inferior frontal lobes, bilateral precentral gyri, and bilateral basal ganglia. Patients with navPPA showed higher levels of THK retention in bilateral frontal lobes (mainly left side) compared than NC in voxel-wise analysis. Conclusions: In our study, THK retention in navPPA patients was mainly distributed at the frontal region which was well correlated with functional-radiological distribution of navPPA. Our results suggest that tau PET imaging could be a supportive tool for diagnosis of navPPA in combination with a clinical history.

  • Background and Purpose: Behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) is a subtype of frontotemporal dementia, which has clinical symptoms of progressive personality and behavioral changes with deterioration of social cognition and executive functions. The pathology of bvFTD is known to be tauopathy or TDP-43 equally. We analyzed the $^{18}F-THK5351$ positron emission tomography (PET) scans, which were recently developed tau PET, in patients with clinically-diagnosed bvFTD. Methods: Forty-eight participants, including participants with behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD, n=3), Alzheimer's disease (AD, n=21) and normal cognition (NC, n=24) who completed 3T magnetic resonance images, $^{18}F-THK5351$ PET scans, and detailed neuropsychological tests were included in the study. Voxel-wise statistical analysis and region of interest (ROI)-based analyses were performed to evaluate the retention of THK in bvFTD patients. Results: In the voxel-based and ROI-based analyses, patients with bvFTD showed greater THK retention in the prefrontal, medial frontal, orbitofrontal, anterior cingulate, insula, anterior inferior temporal and striatum regions compared to NC participants. Left-right asymmetry was noted in the bvFTD patients. A patient with extrapyramidal symptoms showed much greater THK retention in the brainstem. Conclusions: The distribution of THK retention in the bvFTD patients was mainly in the frontal, insula, anterior temporal, and striatum regions which are known to be the brain regions corresponding to the clinical symptoms of bvFTD. Our study suggests that $^{18}F-THK5351$ PET imaging could be a supportive tool for diagnosis of bvFTD.

  • Objectives: This study compared the retention of BioAggregate (BA; Innovative BioCeramix) and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA; Angelus) as coronal plugs after applying different intracanal medications (ICMs) used in regenerative endodontic. Materials and Methods: One-hundred human maxillary central incisors were used. The canals were enlarged to a diameter of 1.7 mm. Specimens were divided into 5 groups (n = 20) according to the ICM used: calcium hydroxide (CH), 2% chlorhexidine (CHX), triple-antibiotic paste (TAP), double-antibiotic paste (DAP), and no ICM (control; CON). After 3 weeks of application, ICMs were removed and BA or MTA were placed as the plug material (n = 10). The push-out bond strength and the mode of failure were assessed. The data were analyzed using 2-way analysis of variance, the Tukey's test, and the ${\chi}^2$ test; p values < 0.05 indicated statistical significance. Results: The type of ICM and the type of plug material significantly affected bond strength (p < 0.01). Regardless of the type of ICM, BA showed a lower bond strength than MTA (p < 0.05). For MTA, CH showed a higher bond strength than CON, TAP and DAP; CHX showed a higher bond strength than DAP (p < 0.01). For BA, CH showed a higher bond strength than DAP (p < 0.05). The mode of failure was predominantly cohesive for BA (p < 0.05). Conclusions: MTA may show better retention than BA. The mode of bond failure with BA can be predominantly cohesive. BA retention may be less affected by ICM type than MTA retention.
