Synthesis and Characterization of Push-pull Polymers Containing Diphenylsiliane Moiety in the Main Chain

  • We have synthesized an azobenzene-containing polymer (PEA) and a stilbene-containing polymer (PAS) with second-order nonlinear properties. The second harmonic coefficient ($d_{33}$) of the poled polymer films was 84 and 36 pm/V for of PEA and PAS, respectively. The poled state of these polymers was stable at least up to 30 h at room temperature. $T_g$ of these polymers appeared in the range from 120 to $160^{\circ}C$ and onset of initial weight losses in the range from 260 to $270^{\circ}C$. Silicon moieties in the main chain enhanced the solubility of PEA and PAS in common organic solvents such as chloroform, N-methylpyrrolidinone (NMP), N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF), etc.

  • Poly(trimethylene terephthalate)(PTT) fiber was pretreated with organic solvent/water solution of various compositions. The organic solvents used in this experiment were benzyl alcohol, n-buthanol, and N,N-dimethylformamide(DMF). Density of the fibers were investigated as a measure of crystallite region. The dye uptake increased in the order of pretreatment with hot water < untreated < 5% benzyl alcohol < 100% benzyl alcohol < 90% benzyl alcohol; hot water < untreated $\risingdotseq$ 5% butanol < 100% beutanol < 90% butanol; hot water $\risingdotseq$ 5% DMF < untreated < 90% DMF < 100% DMF. The dye uptake increases with increase of crystallinity. It seems likely that the recrystallization process during the pretreatment with organic solvent/water solutions leads to an increase in the microvoid and then a large increase in the dye uptake. Also the dyeing rate increased and the dyeing transition temperature decreased with the pretreatments. The results obtained are corresponds with the plasticization of the fiber structure formed during the pretreatrnent.

물을 함유한 아크릴 중합체의 용융 및 용유점도 거동 (Melting and Melt Viscosity Behavior of Wet-PAN Systems)

  • PDSC(pressurized differential scanning calorimeter)를 이용하여 물 또는 물 -DMF(N,N-dimethylformamide) 혼합물을 함유한 아크릴로니크릴 중합체(wet-PAN)의 융점 거동을 조사하였으며 wet-PAN 용융체의 점도측정에 적합한 모세관형 점도계를 제작하여 전단속도 및 온도에 따른 점도변화를 고찰하였다. 물에 의한 wet-PAN의 융점 및 용융점도 는 물의 함량이 증가함에 따라 점근적으로 감소하여 25wt% 이상에서는 거의 일정하였다. 또한 물(25wt% 기준)의 일부를 DMF로 대체하였을 경우에는 융점이 감소하였다. 한편 wet-PAN의 용융점도는 power-law 거동에 준하였으며 물계에서는 power-law 지수(n)가 0.16(19$0^{\circ}C$)~0.18(17$0^{\circ}C$)인데 비하여 물(95)~DMF(5) 혼합물계에서는 0.24(175$^{\circ}C$)~0.25(16 5$^{\circ}C$)로서 점도의 전단담화거동이 약해졌으나 흐름의 활성화에너지는 다소 증가 하였다.

Electrochemical Behaviors of PAN/Ag-based Carbon Nanofibers by Electrospinning

  • In this work, silver nanoparticles-containing polyacrylonitrile (PAN) solutions in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) were electrospun to be webs consisting of nanofibers. The inputted voltage and PAN content in the solution were fixed at 15 kV and 10 wt.% in DMF with 10 cm of tip-to-collector distance (TCD). The PAN/Ag nanofiber webs were stabilized by oxidation at 250 ${^{\circ}C}$ for 2 h in air and carbonized at 1000 ${^{\circ}C}$ for 2 h in $N_2$. The resultant diameter distribution and morphologies of the nanofibers were evaluated by scanning electron microscope analysis. The electrochemical behaviors of the nanofiber webs were also observed by cyclic voltammetry tests. It was found that the presence of silver nanoparticles in carbon nanofiber webs led to the increase of specific capacitance and the decrease of fiber diameters.

Preparation and Thermal Properties of Enaryloxynitriles End-Capped Polymer Precursors

  • Various enaryloxynitriles-terminated reactive polymer precursors containing rigid aromatic units were prepared from various diamines and 1-(p-formylphenyl)-1-phenyl-2,2-dicyanoethene (1). Arylate end-capped model compounds linked with azomethine bond were also prepared by reacting p-formylphenyl benzoate with diamines to compare the curing ability. The oligomers were highly soluble in polar aprotic solvents such as N,N-dimethylformamide, dimethylsulfoxide and N-methyl-2 -pyrrolidinone. They generally showed an exothermic curing process between $280-350^{\circ}C$, attributable to the thermal crosslinking of the dicyanovinyl group in DSC analysis, and no weight loss at curing temperature. Upon heating the polymer precursors, heat-resistant and insoluble network polymers were obtained. Thermogravimetric analyses of the precursors containing rigid aromatic units showed thermal stability with a 77-92% residual weight at $500^{\circ}C$ under nitrogen.

Novel Sulfonated Poly(arylene ether ketone) Containing Benzoxazole Membranes for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell

  • Novel sulfonated poly(aryl ether ketones) containing benzoxazole were directly synthesized by aromatic nucleophilic polycondensation using various ratios of 2,2'-bi[2-( 4-flurophenyl)benzoxazol-6-yl]hexafluoropropane to sodium 5,5'-carbonylbis(2-fluorobenzenesulfonate). The copolymers were soluble in polar aprotic solvents such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, N,N-dimethylacetamide, and N,N-dimethylformamide at a relatively high solid composition (>15 wt%) and formed tough, flexible and transparent membranes. The membranes exhibited a degradation temperature of above $290^{\circ}C$. The exact dissolution times of these membranes at $80^{\circ}C$ in Fenton's reagent (3 wt% $H_2O_2$ containing 2 ppm $FeSO_4$) were undetectable, confirming their excellent chemical stability in fuel cell application. The membranes showed a moderate increase in water uptake with respect to increasing temperature. The proton conductivities of the membranes were dependent on the composition and ranged from $1.10{\times}10^{-2}$ to $5.50{\times}10^{-2}Scm^{-1}$ at $80^{\circ}C$ and 95% relative humidity (RH). At $120^{\circ}C$ without externally humidified conditions, the conductivities increased above $10^{-2}Scm^{-1}$ with respect to increasing benzoxazole content, which suggested that the benzoxazole moieties contributed to the proton conduction.

An NMR Study of Solvent Interactions in a Paramagnetic System

  • This study explores and interprets in a new way the complex solvent and the temperature dependence of the NMR shifts for the N-$CH_2$ protons in tris(N,N-diethyldithiocarbamato) iron(III) in acetone, benzene, carbon disulfide, chloroform, dimethylformamide and pyridine. The NMR shifts are interpreted in terms of the Fermi contact interaction and the dipolar term from the multipole expansion of the interaction of the electron orbital angular momentum and the electron spin dipolar-nuclear spin angular momentum. This analysis yields a direct measure of the effect of the solvent system on the environment of the transition metal ion. The results are analysed in terms of the crystal field environment of the transition metal ion with contributions from (a) the dithiocarbamate ligand (b) the solvent molecules and (c) the interaction of the effective dipole moment of the polar solvent molecule with the transition metal ion complex.

숙련도시험을 위한 소변 중 N-메틸아세트아미드 표준시료 검증 (Validation of urinary N-methylacetamide reference material for proficiency test)

  • 근로자 건강진단 실무지침 상의 필수 검사항목 항목 중, N-메틸아세트아미드의 소변 표준시료를 제조하여 그 신뢰도를 확인하고자 하였다. DB-624 컬럼을 사용한 GC/MSD 분석 방법에 의해 기존 분석 컬럼보다 우수한 분리능과 선택성으로 N-메틸아세트아미드를 분석하였다. -60, -20, 5, $25^{\circ}C$에서 5-50 mg/L의 농도 범위의 소변 중 N-메틸아세트아미드의 안정성을 6개월 보관 시점까지 검토한 결과 모든 보관 조건에서 안정하였으며, 각 시료에 대한 균질성 검사 결과도 양호하였다. 이상의 결과로부터 유리형 NMAC를 첨가하는 방법으로 제조한 소변 중 NMAC 표준시료가 분석정도관리용으로 실용화하기에 적합한 균질성과 장기간 보관 시의 안정성을 모두 만족시킴을 확인하였고, 2008년부터 분석정도관리 표준시료로 활용하였다.

  • Pb(II)이온과 질소-산소 주개 거대고리 리간드인 1,13-diaza-3,4 : $1011-dibenzo-59-dioxacyclohexa-decane(NtnOtnH_4)$, 1,15-diaza-3,4 : $1213-dibenzo-5811-trioxacycloheptadecane(NenOdienH_4)$, 및 1,15-diaza-3,4 : $1213-dibenzo-5811-trioxacyclooctadecane(NtnOdienH_4)$간의, 착물 형성 반응에서 Pb(II)이온에 대한 교환 반응 메카니즘을 $^{207}Pb-NMR$분광법을 사용하여 N,N'-dimethylformamide(DMF)용액에서 조사하였다. $Pb(II)-NtnOtnH_4$계에서는 주로 회합-해리 메카니즘에 의해 교환 반응이 진행되고 있었으며 $Pb(II)-NtnOdienH_4계$의 경우, $-5^{\circ}C$ 이하의 온도 영역에서는 이분자 교환 메카니즘으로, $+5^{\circ}C$ 이상의 온도영역에서는 회합-해리 메카니즘과 이분자 교환 메카니즘이 동시에 교환 반응에 영향을 미치고 있다. 또한 해리 반응에 대한 활성화 에너지는 $NtnOdienH_4\;<\;NtnOtnH_4\;<\;NenOdienH_4$의 순으로 착물의 안정도 상수와는 반대의 순이었다.

N,N-디메틸포롬아미드 용액에서의 알칼리금속이온과 피리디노-아자크라운에테르와의 착물화 반응 (Complexation of Pyridino-Azacrown Ethers with Alkali Metal Ions in N,N-Dimethylformamide)

  • 알칼리금속이온(Li^+, Na^+, K^+, Rb^+, and Cs^+)과 아미드기를 포함하는 피리디노아자 크라운 화합물인 DBPDA와 PDA의 착물형성에 대한 안정도상수, K를 전기 전도도법을 이용하여 여러 온도에서 측정하였다. 각 온도에서 K값은 DBPDA의 경우 Cs^+ > K^+ > Rb^+ > Li^+ > Na^+의 순서였으며, PDA의 경우는 Cs^+ > K^+ > Rb^+ > Li^+ > Na^+이었다. 또한 DBPDA가 PDA보다 이들 알칼리 금속 이온에서 더 큰 K값을 보여주었다. 넓은 의미를 갖는 "Hole-Size-Selectivity" 원리에 이들 착물은 적용되지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 온도 변화에 따른 K값으로부터 {\delta}H와 T{\delta}S를 각각 구했으며, 이들 반응들은 엔탈피 기여에 따르는 착물형성반응으로 나타났다. 그러나 PDA의 경우 부분적인 엔트로피 항의 증가도 착물의 형성에 기여함을 알았다.
