  • This paper proposes a music recommendation system for a driver in vehicle. The proposed system provides (selects and plays) a music to a driver in vehicle in real-time manner by inferring his preference based on physical, environmental, and personal information. Pulse data as physical information, age and biorhythm as personal information, and time as environmental information are used to infer a driver's and thus recommend a music. Experimental results showed that the proposed system could provide better satisfaction to a driver on the recommended music compared to the conventional approach.

  • Architecture and music have reflected many changes occurring in a greater cultural realm. Specially, the concept of time and space formed from relativistic physics becomes the basis of cultural awareness, and a method to understand the world. Therefore, this study aims to suggest the possibility to integrate architecture and music, based on the close relationship between architecture and music of the 20th century focusing on time and space. Resultantly, in this study, interrelationship between architecture and music is elucidated by proving both the spatiality of music and the temporality of architecture, and such possibility to integrate the two realms helps understand the reality.

  • This paper proposes a subband filtering technique to the MUSIC and the ESPRIT algorithm for estimating the magnitude and frequency of the harmonics of power signal. In proposed method, the input power signal is decomposed to the odd harmonics and the even harmonics respectively by the filter bank system. The amplitude and the frequency estimation of the decomposed harmonics are carried out using the MUSIC and the ESPRIT method. Subband filtering can reduce the autocorrelation matrix size of input data, and spectrum leakage between adjacent harmonics. Therefore, this subband technique has advantage in computational cost and estimation accuracy compared to fullband MUSIC and ESPRIT. To demonstrate the performance of the method, computer simulations are performed to the synthesized input signal, and experiment results are compared in subband and fullband cases.

  • There is an agreement that sociocultural forces affect on the types of arts. There have been a little attempts to draw analogy between architecture and music. There are many objective and subjective factors for this to be true. If, however, the two arts are out of much the same social conditions, they show a degree of conformity in design and general organization. Our study shows the interrelationship between the Residential Space and structure of music. In order to clarify the interrelationship between architecture and music, the study examines ten Residential Spaces suggested by Yi-Jinkyung. The Residential Spaces are analyzed by using theory of Space Syntax. The structure of music is analyzed by tonality, counterpoint and harmony. The comparison between the Residential Spaces and music follows : From Renaissance to the 19th century, they have the same tendency to 1) openness & closure to the outer space and 2) the netting diagram in the inner space & Counterpoint 3) the tree diagram in the space & Harmony

  • This paper presents a threshold adaptation based voice query transcription scheme for music information retrieval. The proposed scheme analyzes monophonic voice signal and generates its transcription for diverse music retrieval applications. For accurate transcription, we propose several advanced features including (i) Energetic Feature eXtractor (EFX) for onset, peak, and transient area detection; (ii) Modified Windowed Average Energy (MWAE) for defining multiple small but coherent windows with local threshold values as offset detector; and finally (iii) Circular Average Magnitude Difference Function (CAMDF) for accurate acquisition of fundamental frequency (F0) of each frame. In order to evaluate the performance of our proposed scheme, we implemented a prototype music transcription system called AMT2 (Automatic Music Transcriber version 2) and carried out various experiments. In the experiment, we used QBSH corpus [1], adapted in MIREX 2006 contest data set. Experimental result shows that our proposed scheme can improve the transcription performance.

  • In this paper we derived the asymptotic distribution of the MUSIC null-spectrum, form which an exact expression of the asymptotic variance of the MUSIC null-spectrum can be obtained. From this result in addition an explicit expression of the normalized standard deviation has been derived and it is shown that the normalized standard deviation depends only on the number of sensors and the number of signals.

  • Recently, there are so many music school graduates. In addition, there are many private music institutes. For this reason, there is a fierce competition in music education market. In the past, those who worked in music education market earned big money and so many parents wanted their girls and boys to learn playing a piano and other musical instruments. In the recent times, however, birth ratio was reduced dramatically in Korea and parents do not want their children to learn musical instruments due to economic depression and deteriorated music market. Eventually, the size of music education market was diminished dramatically and the competition in music education market is getting fiercer. Therefore, it is difficult to expect good performance in music education market without having an improved management system. In this respect, this study aims to understand what main factors have an impact on business performance in music institutes. The main areas studied in this paper include successful factors, reason why they start up a business, and successful management factors. The survey of this study targeted music institute owners. Based on the surveyed results, for the owners of the music institute, the method of the venture management approach, in other words, the application of the marketing knowledge, the consideration of the company system, the application of the smart technologies, etc., has been presented.

  • In this paper we derived the asymptotic distribution of the MUSIC null-spectrum, from which an exact expression of the asymptotic variance of the MUSIC null-spectrum can be obtained. From this result in addition an explicit expression of the normalized standard deviation (NSD) has been derived and it is shown that the NSD is affected by the number of sensors and the number of signals.

  • Fouett$\acute{e}$ turns are repeated pirouettes which begin as a normal pirouette en dehors but include a movement that allows the rotational momentum lost to friction to be regained once each revolution. The purpose of this study was to investigate on orientation density of head/trunk to the front with and without music to which dancers perform the Fouette turn in time. 10 female dancers($21.0{\pm}1.4$ years old, height; $165.3{\pm}3.9$ cm, weight: $50.5{\pm}5.7$ kg) who are the students of S University participated in this study. It took shorter time to perform one revolution of fouette turn with music (930 ms) than without music (961 ms), which reason may be the shorter time of phase 2 in which the rotational momentum is not produced but lost to fiction. Orientation density of trunk to the front was smaller with music (.176) than without music (.196), while the one of head had not significant difference between with and without music. And the path length of marker on $2^{nd}$ left metatarsal bone during one revolution was smaller with music (35.7 cm) than without music (40.2 cm) but the difference was not statistically significant (p=.267).
