  • Korean Classical Music, as the abbreviated wording for 'Korean Music', is being used as the indicating phraseology for our traditional music that distinguishing from Western Music, the foreign music or foreign-styled popular music. Since such Korean Classical Music has the different acoustic characteristics from Western Music, it needs its own performance space for the special exclusive-use of Korean Classical Music. Likewise, even though the demand for the performance space of special exclusive-use for Korean Classical Music where Korean Classical Music is rendering, is on increasing tendency due to the increase of national concern about traditional culture art, since it is being planned without any concrete standard or method that gratifies the supreme listening condition, it is the real situation that a securement of the satisfying acoustic condition is very difficult, after the completion of construction. On such viewpoint, in order to evaluate the acoustic characteristics of the performance space of special exclusive-use for Korean Classical Music, based on the subjective response which reflects human being's psychological attribute at first, this Study has attempted to extract the proper evaluation vocabulary for appraisement on Korean Classical Music. The abstracted vocabulary in such way would be used significantly for Subjective Response Evaluation in order for the evaluation on the Acoustic Characteristics of the performance space of special exclusive-use for Korean Classical Music.

  • GPS is vulnerable to jamming because of extremely low signal power. Many anti-jamming techniques are studied for complement this vulnerability. Anti-jamming techniques using array antenna are most effective technique and these techniques are required the DOA estimates. MUSIC algorithm and Root-MUSIC Algorithm are typical algorithms used in DOA estimation. Two algorithms have different characteristics, so the choice of an algorithm may depends on many factors such as the environment and the system requirements. The analysis and performance comparison of both algorithms is necessary to choose the best method to apply. This paper summarizes the theory of MUSIC and Root-MUSIC algorithms. And this paper extends both algorithm to estimate two-dimensional angles. The software simulator of both algorithms are implemented to evaluate the performance. Root-MUSIC algorithm has the computational advantage on ULA. MUSIC algorithm is applicable to any antenna array. MUSIC shows better estimation performance when number of array element is small while the computational load of MUSIC is much higher than Root-MUSIC.

  • Music performance techniques have been primarily trained by apprenticeship. The technique transfer, which relies on the imitation of experience and actual performance without scientific evidence, required the pianists more time and effort than necessary. However, if the players in the field discover the principles of universally applicable piano playing techniques in collaboration with scientists, they will avoid errors and prepare a new paradigm in the development of piano playing techniques. This is why music performance science is needed. Little has been studied about it in Korea, but it has been activated abroad since the mid-1990s. The core science of music performance science is expected to be computer science fitting data analysis. In this paper, we introduce music performance science for the pianist and present how computer can help it.

  • This study proposed the design development of performance uniform for Korean classical music. To do this, we considered the state of the performance uniform of the Korean Classical Music Band through photographic data. The research targeted the performers in Korean Classical Music Band, and conducted a survey for the preference of type, pattern, decoration, color and fabric materials. Based on the results, we extracted the design of performance uniform, which is suitable for the environment of Korean classical music performance and meets the substantial requirements of performers. The performance uniform that the current national or public Korean classical music bands are using, has two types: Western clothing and Hanbok. The attire is influenced by the genre of the music that they are playing because one of its main functions is to deliver the music to audience effectively. In addition, there are some differences in the uniform based on the gender, but no division in the design of clothing according to music instruments. However, the result of the survey show that there was no difference in preference by gender, but there was some difference according to the division of music instruments. On this study, we reflected this result in the design, and proposed the design of an convenient outer garment for everyone to wear in the music performance band.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the clinical practice-related anxiety and coping strategies in music therapists. 81 music therapists who are members of the National Korean Music Therapist Association, completed the self-report questionnaires. Results in this study showed that the highest rating scores were found with relationship anxiety, followed by musical performance anxiety and performance anxiety. As causing factors for each anxiety type, uncooperative behaviors and attitudes of clients were reported to highly affect interpersonal anxiety; improvising music during music therapy sessions for musical performance anxiety, and observations of music therapy sessions by staff and related professionals for performance anxiety. Regarding coping strategies used by the respondents, cognitively questioning anxiety issues was most frequently used to deal with performance anxiety; actively involving in behavior modification of clients for relationship anxiety, and practicing music skills for musical performance anxiety. The results provided descriptive information of anxiety and coping strategies that music therapists experienced. Also, this study indicates how music therapists would deal with anxiety-inducing situations and develop their coping strategies for better clinical practice.

  • The aim of this article is to argue that BanLyeo music (companion music) is much better than medicine. A companion who shares thoughts or actions, or a metaphorical description of an object that is always close or carried. Isn't the music that we share in our daily lives a BanLyeo music (companion music)? Music stays with us forever as long as we choose. Therefore, it is music that can go with us until the end, so I think we should call it BanLyeo music (companion music). Music can be with us whenever and wherever we want, soothing sadness and pain and cheering us up. Here is a person who is living a second life happily because of BanLyeo music. Beyond the passive listening to music, direct and active music performance is a great power to save one person. As a more effective healing agent than medicine, BanLyeo music is a great power to stay together for the rest of your life and cheer you up. So, I think music is much better than medicine.

  • Music identification is widely regarded as a solved problem for music searching in quiet environments, but its performance tends to degrade in TV broadcast audio owing to the presence of dialogue or sound effects. In addition, constructing an accurate dataset for measuring the performance of background music monitoring in TV broadcast audio is challenging. We propose a framework for monitoring background music by automatic identification and introduce a background music cue sheet. The framework comprises three main components: music identification, music-speech separation, and music detection. In addition, we introduce the Cue-K-Drama dataset, which includes reference songs, audio tracks from 60 episodes of five Korean TV drama series, and corresponding cue sheets that provide the start and end timestamps of background music. Experimental results on the constructed and existing datasets demonstrate that the proposed framework, which incorporates music identification with music-speech separation and music detection, effectively enhances TV broadcast audio monitoring.

  • These days there are so many music school graduates. There are also many private music education institutions. Therefor the competition in music private education market very tight. In old days people working in education music market had made big money and many parents wanted their girls and boys to learn piano and other musical instruments. However recently birth ratio in Korea has been dramatically dropped and not many parents wants their kids to learn musical instruments because of economic depression and negative music market. Eventually the size of the music education market is decreased dramatically and the competition in music education market is very hot. Therefor without the upgraded management system it is hard to expect over performance in music education market aspects. The purpose of this study was to find out what are the main factors that affect on business performance of the music education institutions. The main areas that researched in this study were success factors, reason of the start-up, and factors of management success. The research was conducted on the owners of the music education institutions. The factors that affect on the outcome of the business performance were diverse. Therefore the management of music education institutions also need the systematical analysis on the location, environmental factors, people nearby areas, differentiated market strategy and other analysis the same as corporate and business management.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the problems concerning 780 music division of DDC. The object is especially arrangement of 780 music in the 20th edition of DDC which is the complete revision. The result is summarized as follows : 1. Although music is an important subject in humanities, especially in arts, it was classified as one division (780) not class. 2. The arrangement of 780 music is severely west-oriented music theory, vocal music and instrumental music. 3. Classification number of 780 music becomes longer because of the limitation of decimal notation. 4. 780 music division of DDC neglects music theory and emphasizes music practicing, especially performance. 5. The assignment of classification number is unbalanced, especially between theory and practice, composition and performance, and among sub-sections of vocal and instrumental music. 6. Many important subject are omitted in DDC music schedule, for example, musicology and branches of musicology, composition and traditional instruments of many countries. 7. Employment of terminology is often improper and inconsistant.
