  • The study examined a sentiment analysis based on Tweeter messages between contemporary pop musicians and classical music composers. Musicians of each genre were carefully selected for the sentiment analysis. Many opinion messages on Tweets that users have discussed were collected, and the messages were evaluated by using Naïve Bayes Classifier. The results demonstrated that users showed high positive sentiments for the two different genres. However, on average, the positive sentiment values for classical music composers are higher than for contemporary pop musicians. In addition, the rankings of the highest positive sentiments among contemporary pop musicians and classical music composers did not coincide with the popularity of the two different genres of musicians. This study will contribute to the study of future sentimental analysis between music and musicians.

  • The success of K-Pop music industry continues as there is a new light shedding on the new Korean wave. There is a continuous discussion about the sustainability of the idol's dance music because of its limit in the uniform genre. As a solution to improve the quality of K-pop music, researchers said to supplement it through the change of educational system in the applied music. However, research into how much the education of applied music is contributing to the continuous success of the K-Pop music industry and how each industry is affecting each other was inadequate. Therefore, this study will understand the association between the K-Pop and the applied music, and look into ways that can act as a mutual supplementation for both fields. Subjects of analysis included performing artists, composers, arrangers, lyricists, and singers for songs within the top 100 of the digital total ranking for the past three years in the Gaon chart which is the official music chart for Korea. Then, the study apprehended how many of those subject had relations with the applied music and their activity frequency. As a result, there were a considerable number of K-Pop performers, at 41.74%, who also majored in the applied music. To continue to tendency of Korean wave and develop the Korean popular music, this study will explore roles each industry should cooperate in the future. There were the formation of social atmosphere for increase of consumer's needs to diverse K-pop music and change of education for training its human resources that K-pop industry demand.

  • This study reviewed the research in China on music interventions for adult brain injury patients. Eighty-three studies that met the inclusion criteria were included for analysis. Our review revealed that the number of intervention studies using music with adult brain injury patients has been on the rise since 2012, and random control research design methods have been dominant. Studies focused on the physical domain and emotional domain together were most common. Researchers in fields outside of music therapy conducted 43 of the studies, and music therapists carried out 14 of the studies as intervention providers. Most of the studies carried out by experts in fields other than music therapy used listening activities involving preexisting recorded music. However, most of the studies conducted by music therapists adopted reconstructed music and played it live during their intervention. The specificity of the described content of the interventions and level and relevance of stated rationale to the target goal of the intervention suggests that high quality of intervention was conducted with a therapist/investigator who has completed adequate professional education/training, which would emphasize the importance of music therapy professionalism. This study provides the baseline data for how music intervention research has been implemented in China and presents implications for future clinical practice and research.

  • Community music therapy (CoMT) has been recently developed and expands the opportunities for music therapy. The concept of CoMT is introduced in this article, and its three attributes of community, music, and health are reviewed. This study specified each attribute of CoMT: a community (a group of people, a field where members of a group interact with each other), music (a substance of interaction, collective music-making), and health (motivation and goal of interaction, relational and social well-being). The application and interactions of the three attributes of CoMT are introduced as in the concept of community music, music and health, and community health. How CoMT can be applied to the field of music therapy is also detailed and based on the concept of CoMT and its relationship with the attributes, the CoMT was reconstructed as CoMuHeal in this study. Future studies are needed to propose how music therapy approaches can be developed to provide music for well-being and better health in the community and how CoMT can be applied in collaboration with other professional fields.

  • In this paper, we present a music retrieval system that compares the geometric structure of a melody specified by a user with those in a music database. The system finds matches between a query melody and melodies in the database by analyzing both structural and contextual features. The retrieval method is based on the geometric hashing algorithm which consists of two steps; the preprocessing step and the recognition step. During the preprocessing step, we divide a melody into several fragments and analyze the pitch and duration of each note of the fragments to find a structural feature. To find a contextual feature, we find a main chord for each fragment. During the recognition step, we divide the query melody specified by a user into several fragments and search through all fragments in the database that are structurally and contextually similar to the melody. A vote is cast for each of the fragments and the music whose total votes are the maximum is the music that contains a matching melody against the query melody. Using our approach, we can find similar melodies in a music database quickly. We can also apply the method to detect plagiarism in music.

  • The purpose of this study is to discover how therapeutic music making affects the way of communications in single-parent families. To do this, the study conducted a therapeutic music making program in two families consisting of a mother and a child. Songwriting, Ostinato-creating, improvisation imitation, and ensemble were used as musical interventions. The results of this study are following. First, the participant group B improved from 59 to 69.5 point after the program. However, the group A decreased from 81 to 75.5 point mainly due to frequent absences, differences in applying music. Second, the analysis of the results of verbal, nonverbal and musical responses from the program suggests that the group B gradually improved functional communications as each session develops. For the case of group A, at the initial stage, dysfunctional communications in verbal and nonverbal ones could be found. After the eighth session however, functional communications had increased. The result of the study shows that overall therapeutic music making has been an effective musical intervention in improving communication in single-parent families.

  • Music production, which is a new study, has been introduced and has become part of the curricula at the university music education level in Korea. However, because of the lack of experience and depth in the subject, an effective teaching and learning atmosphere has not yet been attained. It is therefore hard to find effective teaching and learning environments through traditional curricula which deliver a simple knowledge and technique methodology. Therefore, the most important methodology for school education in music production is to domesticate not only the learning of knowledge and skills, but also to design an ability to solve any problem that typically arise when students work in their actual job environments. The purpose of this study is to design a Web delivered problem based learning(PBL) system for studying sound systems effectively in Music production on the college level.
