Impact of a reduction in the quality of Shine Muscat on the grape variety market using the Armington model

  • We devised a grape variety model to estimate the impact of lowering the Shine Muscat quality level on the grape market. Shine Muscat has become a popular grape variety in Korea. Accordingly, the area devoted to the harvesting of Shine Muscat has increased dramatically since 2016. Our study examines how a reduction in the quality of Shine Muscat affects other grapes such as Campbell Early, giant peak, and Muscat Bailey A (MBA). The Armington model was used to impose consumer preferences and product differentiation assumptions. We found that a decrease in the consumer preference for Shine Muscat realized by lowering the quality of Shine Muscat largely reduces the price of this variety. Also, the prices of other grape varieties fell via a substitute effect. Moreover, if grape varieties were more differentiated, the reduction in the price of Shine Muscat would be greater, while the decreases in the prices of other grape varieties would be smaller. These results imply that farmers of Shine Muscat must continue with quality management efforts to avoid the negative effect of changing consumer behavior with regard to Shine Muscat against a reduction in its quality. Our model introduces a product differentiation model for the fruit market and helps policymakers and farmers understand the impact of changing market conditions in the fruit market.

중국 소비자의 샤인머스켓 포도 상품 속성별 지불의향 결정요인 분석: 베이징과 상하이 소비자를 중심으로 (Decisional Factor of China Consumers' Willingness to Pay for Korean Shine Muscat: Evidence from Beijing and Shanghai Consumers)

  • In a long-run, a price reduction of shine muscat that is one type of grapes is expected due to an increase of cultivated area. To come up with this problem, expanding exports of shine muscat considering that domestic demand is restricted in Korea. This study investigates the China consumers preference for shine muscat from Korea since exports to China have increased a lot after the quarantine agreement in 2015. Specifically, this paper analyzes a probability of shine muscat exports to China based on willingness to pay (WTP). Moreover, we derive long-run and short-run export strategies for Korean shine muscat. Our results show that a probability of exports to China is high. However, this probability is lowered at the sample of consumers who have the experience of tasted shine muscat. Considering the relative important characteristic for buying shine muscat at the sample of eating experienced consumers in China is sweetness, there is a need to develop cultivation technologies for enhancing sweetness to attain a sustainable development in the grape sector of Korea.

중국 북경 소비자의 샤인머스캣 구매의향 결정요인 및 가격민감도 분석 (A Study on Factors Affecting Purchase Intention and Price Sensitivity Analysis of Korean Shine-muscat for Consumers in Beijing China)

  • The objective of this study is to analyze factors affecting purchase intention and conduct price sensitivity analysis of Korean Shine-muscat for Chinese consumers. Logit model has been set up to find purchase intention with survey data which was conducted in Beijing China. The results show that the high-income, unmarried consumers are more sensitive to the price of Korean Shine-muscat than low-income, married consumers, but have higher purchase intention. Also, consumers who perceive Korea positively and those who prefer Korean dramas are more sensitive to the price but have higher purchase intention. Consumers with a high monthly purchase frequency of Shine-muscat have higher purchase intention of Korean Shine-muscat, but are more sensitive to the price. The results of this study can be utilized as basic information for promoting the export of Korean Shine- muscat to China.

  • 만생종 중립계 포도에 대한 저장성을 검토하기 위해 재배면적이 많은 Sheridan, Tano Red 및 Muscat Bailey A 등 3품종을 공시하여 저장전 SO$_2$훈증처리, 저장온도 $0^{\circ}C$, 습도 90% RH의 조건에서 polyethylene film으로 밀봉하여 저장성을 시험하였다. 중량 감소는 저장기간이 경과할 수록 많았으며, Sheridan 품종이 감소의 정도가 가장 적었다. 비정상과는 저장기간이 경과할수록 많았고, 저장 90일 이후 급격히 증가하여 상품성이 저하되었으며, 135일 저장 시 Sheridan

First Report of Anthracnose of Shine Muscat Caused by Colletotrichum fructicola in Korea

  • Anthracnose is one of the major problems for cultivating many crops, including vegetables, fruits, and trees. It is a continual threat for fruits grower worldwide. Colletotrichum fructicola was isolated from Shine Muscat berries showing typical anthracnose symptom in Korea. It was identified as C. fructicola based on morphology, pathological signs and concatenated sequences of internal transcribed spacer region of rDNA, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, β-tubulin-2, chitin synthase-1, calmodulin, and the Apn2-Mat1-2 intergenic spacer and partial mating type (Mat1-2) gene. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report first report of anthracnose of Shine Muscat caused by C. fructicola in Korea.

머루포도 씨 추출물의 $\alpha$-Melanin Stimulating Hormone으로 자극한 B16세포에서 melanin 생성억제 효과 (Inhibitory Effect of Muscat Bailey A Seed Extract on Melanin Production in $\alpha$-Melanin Stimulating Hormone-stimulated B16 Cell)

  • 한국에서 주요하게 재배되는 세 개의 품종(켐벨, 청포도, 머루포도)을 대상으로 껍질과 씨 추출물의 미백효능을 검색하였다. Mouse melanoma인 B16세포에 $\alpha$-MSH와 샘플을 처리하여 melanin 생성을 측정하였다. 세 품종의 껍질은 효과가 없었으며 켐벨과 청포도의 씨 추출물은 세포독성이 매우 강하였다. 머루포도 씨 추출물은 $50{\mu}g/ml$에서 대조구에 비해 melanin 생성은 $51.6{\pm}20.5%$ 이었으며 세포 생존율은 $90.4{\pm}11.3%$ 이어서 약간의 세포 독성에도 불구 melanin 생성 억제 효과가 뚜렷하였다. 머루포도 씨 추출물은 B16세포에서 $\alpha$-MSH에 의한 tyrosinase 발현량 증가를 억제하였다. 이후 연구는 1) 머루포도 씨의 생리활성 단일물질 검색과 2) $\alpha$-MSH의 신호전달 과정에 추출물 및 생리활성 단일물질이 어떻게 영향을 미치는지 하는 점이고 현재 실험에 진행 중에 있다.

Effect of essential oils and linalool on berry quality during simulated marketing of 'Shine Muscat' grapes

  • 'Shine Muscat' (Vitis labruscana Bailey x Vitis vinifera L.) grapes recently have been greatly favored in Korea, and as of 2022, account for 38.6% of the total grape market in Korea. However, there is a lack of research on post-harvest quality control appropriate to the unique characteristics of 'Shine Muscat'. In order to continuously increase domestic demand and exports in the future, it is essential to establish proper postharvest techniques. Essential oils have remarkable potential as biologically active and environmentally friendly antiseptics for the fruit industry. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of essential oils and aroma constituent treatment on fruit quality attributes of 'Shine Muscat' grapes in order to extend fruit quality during a simulated export period. A cluster of 'Shine Muscat' grapes was placed in a newly developed paper box container, and treated with rosemary essential oil, thyme essential oil, and linalool, along with an untreated control. The results showed no significant effect on fruit quality indices, such as cluster weight loss, berry firmness, soluble solids content, titratable acidity, sugar acid ratio, and color change, but showed a positive effect on the alleviation of berry shatter compared to the untreated control. In addition, rosemary oil treatment reduced the proportion of unhealthy berries. Therefore, the results indicated that the newly developed packaging container along with certain essential oil treatment could be applied as a promising packaging material for table grape export.

에틸렌 흡착제와 활성탄 처리에 의한 저장 포도의 품질 특성 (Quality of Stored Grape (Vitis labruscana) Treated with Ethylene-Absorbent and Activated Charcoal)

  • 포도의 저장성을 향상시킬 수 있는 방법을 모색하기 위하여 'Sheridan'과 'Muscat Bailey A' 품종을 에틸렌 흡착제 및 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 및 2.0%의 활성탄을 처리하여 $0{\pm}1^{\circ}C$에서 $90{\pm}2%$의 습도상태에서 60일간 저장하면서 중량감모율, 비정상과 발생률, 탈립율, 당도, 유리당함량, 총산, anthocyanin 색소 함량, 진균수를 조사하였다. 전체적으로 'Sheridan', 'Muscat Bailey A' 두 품종 모두 무처리에 비하여 에틸렌 흡착제 및 활성탄을 처리하였을 때 저장성이 증가하였다. 품종별로는 'Sheridan'이 'Muscat Bailey A'보다 저장성이 우수하였으며, 처리구별로 무처리구에 비하여 에틸렌 흡착제, 활성탄 수준이 높을수록 중량감모율, 비정상과 발생률, 탈립율, 당도 및 진균수의 증가에 대한 억제 효율이 높게 나타났다. 그리고 유리당 함량 및 포도과피의 anthocyianin 함량을 조사한 결과 'Sheridan', 'Muscat Bailey A' 두 품종 모두 저장 기간 중 유리당 함량 및 포도 과피의 anthocyanin 함량이 조금 증가하였고, 품종별로는 'Sheridan'이 'Muscat Bailey A'보다 증가율이 높게 나타났지만, 처리구간 유의적인 차이는 적었다, 또한, 총산은 'Sheridan'과 'Muscat Bailey A' 두 품종 모두 저장 기간 중 감소하는 경향을 나타낸 반면, 처리구별 차이는 적었고 품종별로는 'Sheridan'이 'Muscat Bailey A'보다 적게 감소하였다. 전체적인 결과를 종합해보면 포도 저장 중 활성탄 처리 효과가 에틸렌 흡착제에 의한 효과와 유사하게 저장성을 향상시키는 결과를 나타내었으며, 처리구별로는 에틸렌 흡착제, 2% 활성탄>1% 활성탄>0.5% 활성탄 처리 순으로 저장성이 우수하게 나타났다.

양조용(釀造用) 우량(優良)포도품종(品種) 선발(選拔)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Study on the Selection of Wine Grape Varieties for High Yielding and Low Production Cost)

  • 1. 다수성(多收性)이고 당함량(糖含量)이 높아 원료생산비(原料生産費) 저렴한 양조용(釀造用) 포도품종(品種)을 선발(選拔)하기 위하여 33품종(品種)을 공시(供試)하였다. 2. 구라파에서 육성(育成)한 대부분(大部分)의 양조용품종(釀造用品種)은 원산지(原産地)에서 보다 현저하게 당함량(糖含量)이 낮았다. 양조전용품종(釀造全用品種)은 당함량(糖含量)이 모두 17% 미만이었다. 3. 과방중(果房重)이 큰 품종은 Dattier(Ga), Golden Queen, Muscat Bailey A, Danored 등(等) 4품종(品種)이었다. 4. Juice율(率)은 60~90%의 범위로써 Himrod Seedless. Delaware(Ga), Fredonia가 가장 높았다. 5. 양조용품종(釀造用品種)은 생식용(生食用)에 비(比)하여 과방중(果房中) 종자(種子) 및 과경율(果梗率)이 높아 과육율(果肉率)이 떨어졌다. 6. 가장 수량(收量)이 높은 품종(品種)은 Muscat Baiely A이었고 다음이 Danored, Golden Queen이었다. 7. Juice 생산량(生産量)이 가장 높은것은 Campbell Early, Danored, Muscat Bailey A 및 Golden Queen이었다. 8. 포도주원료생산비(原料生産費)로 보아 양조용(釀造用)으로 유망한 품종(品種)은 적주용(赤酒用)은 Muscat Bailey A, Alden, Steuben, Danored, Campbell Early, S-1000 및 S-13053 등(等)이고 백주용(白酒用)은 Dattier de St-Vallier(Ga), Golden Queen 및 S-9110(Ga)등(等)이었다.
