  • It has been known that multiuser MIMO systems have better performance than single-user MIMO systems. However, multiuser MIMO systems should eliminate inter-user interferences which are generated by allocating data to multiple users simultaneously There is zero-forcing beamforming (ZFBF) as scheme used widely among algorithms to eliminate inter-user interferences. But, it needs many feedback bits since BS knows quite exact channel state information to use this scheme in real systems. Random beamforming (RBF) was proposed to cope with a defect of ZFBF[1]. RBF is a multiuser scheme to send data to users who have optimal performance with predetermined codebook, each receiver feeds back a index of codeword which has optimal performance within the codebook and its CQI information. [1] assumes that the BS knows perfect CQI information of each receiver but CQI information should be quantized in the real systems. Therefore, in this paper, efficient CQI quantization scheme for RBF system is proposed.

  • We propose multistage parallel nulling (MPN) partial parallel interference cancellation (PPIC) receiver for downlink multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) multicarrier (MC)-code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. Though the V-BLAST is a popular MIMO receiver, it shows error floor for multiuser downlink MIMO MC-CDMA systems. The proposed MPN-PPIC receiver does not produce error floor for multiuser case, and achieves substantial performance gains with multistage processing. For single user case, the proposed method also surpasses the V-BLAST receiver with multistage processing for MIMO MC-CDMA systems with chip level interleaving. The system performance of the proposed MPN-PPIC receiver is evaluated through computer simulations.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of normalized SNR based proportional fair scheduling with partial feedback information for multiuser MIMO-OFDMA systems. The closed form expression on the downlink capacity of the selective partial CQI feedback scheme is derived and its asymptotic behavior is investigated. From the performance analysis and numerical results, it is found that the optimal growth rate of downlink capacity can be achieved with bounded average feedback overhead irrespective of the number of users.

  • In this paper, we propose a temporal diversity scheme based on the vector perturbation for a multiuser multipleinput multiple-output (MIMO) broadcasting system. Our method is inspired by the fact that precoding process of the vector perturbation designed to suppress the multiuser interference causes a reduction of the transmitted signal power. In order to boost up the transmit power, we employ a non-integer based vector perturbation together with temporal transmit diversity. We show from the simulation on 10${\times}$10 multiuser MIMO system that the proposed method outperforms the epetition coded vector perturbation scheme as well as the standard vector perturbation.

  • Tomlinson-Harashima precoding (THP) is considered as a prominent precoding scheme due to its capability to cancel out the known interference at the transmitter side. Therefore, the information rates achieved by THP are superior to those achieved by conventional linear precoding schemes. In this paper, a new lower bound on the achievable information rate by the regularized THP under additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel with multiuser interference is derived. Analytical results show that the lower bound derived in this paper is tighter than the original lower bound particularly at low SNR range, while both lower bounds converge to the same lower limit as SNR$\rightarrow$$\infty$.

  • This letter addresses the superimposed pilot aided multiuser channel estimation for the uplinks of multi-input multi-output orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing systems. To mitigate the embedded-data effects on the performance of channel estimation, a novel combining algorithm is proposed. Optimal pilot symbols are developed with respect to the least square channel estimate's mean square error. The averaged sum-capacity lower bound is derived and simulated. Simulation results show that on a low signal-to-noise ratio regime, our proposed scheme achieves better performance and higher capacity than the conventional pilot aided approach.

  • This paper proposes a new multiuser scheduling algorithm that can simultaneously support a variety of different quality-of-service (QoS) user groups while satisfying fairness among users in the same QoS group in MIMO broadcast channels. Toward this goal, the proposed algorithm consists of two parts: a QoS-aware fair (QF) scheduling within a QoS group and an antenna trade-off scheme between different QoS groups. The proposed QF scheduling algorithm finds a user set from a certain QoS group which can satisfy the fairness among users in terms of throughput or delay. The antenna trade-off scheme can minimize the QoS violations of a higher priority user group by trading off the number of transmit antennas allocated to different QoS groups. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed QF scheduling method satisfies different types of fairness among users and can adjust the degree of fairness among them. The antenna trade-off scheme combined with QF scheduling can improve the probability of QoS-guaranteed transmission when supporting different QoS groups.

  • This paper proposes a data stream allocation technique for fair capacity performance in multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems using block diagonalization (BD) algorithm. Conventional studies have been focused on maximum sum capacity. Thus, there is a very large difference of capacity among users, since user capacity unfairly distributed according to each user channel environment. In additional, poor channel user has very small capacity, since base station allocates the power by using water-filling technique. Also, almost studies limited itself to obtain the additional gain by using the same number of data streams for all users. In this paper, we propose the technique for maximizing sum capacity under the fair performance constraint by allocating data stream according to user channel environment. Also, proposed algorithm has more gain of sum capacity and transmit power than conventional equal allocation via computer simulation.

  • In this paper, we consider a precoder design for downlink multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) in distributed antenna systems (DAS). In DAS, remote radio heads (RRHs) are placed at geographically different locations within a cell area. Three different precoder design schemes are proposed to maximize the separate or joint signal-to-leakage-plus-noise ratio (SLNR) metrics by considering RRH sum power or per-RRH power constraints. The analytical closed-form form solution for each optimization problem is presented. Through computer simulation, we show that the joint SLNR based precoding schemes have better signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and bit error rate (BER) performances than the separate SLNR based schemes. Also, it is shown that the precoding scheme with RRH sum power constraint has better performance than the precoding scheme with per-RRH power constraint.

  • We investigate the opposite of artificial noise (AN)-assisted communication in multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) wiretap channels for the multiuser case by taking the side of the eavesdropper. We first define a framework for an AN-assisted multiuser multiple-input-multiple-output (MU-MIMO) system, for which eavesdropping methods are proposed with and without knowledge of legitimate users' channel state information (CSI). The proposed method without CSI is based on a modified joint approximate diagonalization of eigen-matrices algorithm, which eliminates permutation indetermination and phase ambiguity, as well as the minimum description length algorithm, which blindly estimates the number of secret data sources. Simulation results show that both proposed methods can intercept information effectively. In addition, the proposed method without legitimate users' CSI performs well in terms of robustness and computational complexity.
