  • The quality of agricultural products is classified with various factors which are measured and determined by destructive and/or nondestructive method. NIR spectrum analysis method is used to determine internal qualities such as a brix and an acidity. CCD color camera is used to measure external quality like color and a size of fruit. Today, nondestructive methods are widely researched. The quality and the grade of fruit loaded into a cup automatically and measured in real time by camera and NIR system is determined by infernal and external factors. This paper proposes modified boundary tracking algorithm which detects the contour of fruit's color image and make chain code faster than conventional method. The chain code helps compute a size of fruit image and find multiple loading of a fruit in single cup or fruit between two cups. The designed classification system sorts a citrus at speed of 8 fruit/s, with evaluating a brix, an acidity and a size grade.

  • Uncertainty is ubiquitous in target tracking wireless sensor networks due to environmental noise, randomness of target mobility and other factors. Sensing results are always unreliable. This paper considers unreliability as it occurs in wireless sensor networks and its impact on target-tracking accuracy. Firstly, we map intersection pairwise sensors' uncertain boundaries, which divides the monitor area into faces. Each face has a unique signature vector. For each target localization, a sampling vector is built after multiple grouping samplings determine whether the RSS (Received Signal Strength) for a pairwise nodes' is ordinal or flipped. A Fault-Tolerant Target-Tracking (FTTT) strategy is proposed, which transforms the tracking problem into a vector matching process that increases the tracking flexibility and accuracy while reducing the influence of in-the-filed factors. In addition, a heuristic matching algorithm is introduced to reduce the computational complexity. The fault tolerance of FTTT is also discussed. An extension of FTTT is then proposed by quantifying the pairwise uncertainty to further enhance robustness. Results show FTTT is more flexible, more robust and more accurate than parallel approaches.

  • The number of one person households has grown steadily over the recent past and the population of lonely and unnoticed death are also observed. The phenomenon of one person households has been occurred. In the dark side of society, the remarkable number of lonely and unnoticed death are reported among different age-groups. We propose an unusual event detection method which may give a remarkable solution to reduce the number of the death rete for people dying alone and remaining undiscovered for a long period of time. The unusual event detection method we suggested to identify abnormal user behavior in their lives using vision pattern, audio pattern, and dust pattern algorithms. Individually proposed pattern algorithms have disadvantages of not being able to detect when they leave the coverage area. We utilized a fusion method to improve the accuracy performance of each pattern algorithm and evaluated the technique with multiple user behavior patterns in indoor areas.

  • In recent years opportunistic computing has gained popularity in Ad-hoc network research area and it is highly required to research for actual services and related requirements. In this paper we summarized a virtual opportunistic service that is named "Children Care System" and proposed an Ad-hoc communication node (uMobile) that is connected with cellular phone and a sensor node (uClo) which is embedding into clothes. uMobile can support cellular phone communication and Ad-hoc communication and uClo can be embedded into clothes and recognize the user status using multiple sensors. In this paper we implemented the location awareness and user status awareness services using uMobile and uClo. We also tested them in indoor situation and showed the result. We expect that our research can play a significant role to inspire another various opportunistic computing services.

  • We investigated an interrogation system for fiber Bragg gratings by using a 50-GHz 96-channel array waveguide grating. Linearity of the sensitivity (the wavelength shift in response to the change in strain or temperature) is achieved for a Bragg grating of sufficiently wide bandwidth. The present wavelength-monitoring system could measure the change in Bragg wavelength with a resolution of 0.01 nm, at intervals of 10 seconds. When this interrogation system was used for a linear array of 12 acrylaterecoated fiber gratings, the wavelength sensitivity changed from 0.018 nm/℃ to 0.01 nm/℃ when the operating temperature changed from -25℃ to 85℃.

  • This paper propose the method to drive a solar panel cleaning robot efficiently on an inclined panel using vacuum pad pressure. In this method, the rubber pads using the vacuum pressure are used to attach robot body to the panel surface. By applying the linkage mechanism to the vacuum pads, it was possible to reduce robot weight and power consumption and to prevent slipping of the robot. In addition, the use of solenoid valves, proximity sensors, and encoders to detect movement of the robot body and the control of the pad pressure dedicate to the driving of the robot on an inclined panel. In order to move the robot forward, the operation sequence of multiple solenoid valves was completed, and the six vacuum pads mounted to both legs were accurately controlled to form vacuum and atmospheric pressure in right order so that the robot could move forward without slipping. At last, it was confirmed through experiments that straight-forward moving and rotational movement could be performed up to 36 degrees of inclination angle of solar panel.

  • Identification of humans from multiple view points is an important task for surveillance and security purposes. For optimal performance the system should use the maximum information available from sensors. Multimodal biometric systems are capable of utilizing more than one physiological or behavioral characteristic for enrollment, verification, or identification. Since gait alone is not yet established as a very distinctive feature, this paper presents an approach to fuse face and gait for identification. In this paper we will use the single camera case i.e both the face and gait recognition is done using the same set of images captured by a single camera. The aim of this paper is to improve the performance of the system by utilizing the maximum amount of information available in the images. Fusion in considered at decision level. The proposed algorithm is tested on the NLPR database.

  • For the escape from a maze, the cooperative method by robot swarm was proposed in this paper. The robots can freely move by collecting essential data and making a decision in the use of sensors; however, a central control system is required to organize all robots for the escape from the maze. The robots explore new mazes and then send the information to the system for analyzing and mapping the escaping route. Three issues were considered as follows for the effective escape by multiple robots from the mazes in this paper. In the first, the mazes began to divide and secondly, dead-ends should be blocked. Finally, after the first arrivals at the destination, a shortcut should be provided for rapid escaping from the maze. The parallel-escape algorithms were applied to the different size of mazes, so that robot swarm can effectively get away the mazes.

  • The white stick mainly used for visually impaired person has difficulty in providing location information and effective countermeasures for emergency situations encountered during walking as well as detecting floating obstacles on the ground. In this paper, we propose a machine-to-machine based intelligent walking assistance system for safe and convenient walking of the visually impaired. The proposed system consists of a walking assistance stick used by the visually impaired and a server supporting multiple stick users in remote places through mobile communication networks. The stick equipped with ultrasonic sensors, GPS(global positioning system) receiver and vibrator not only detects floating obstacles, but also offers stick users with present location identification utilizing a text-to-voice conversion technology. Besides providing geographic information, the server notifies the emergency locations of users to guardian and aid agency, and it provides log information during walking such as the place, time and the number of accidents. Test results with a developed prototype system have shown that the system properly performs the functions and satisfies overall system performance.
