The dynamic behavior of an Euler beam with multiple point constraints traversed by a moving concentrated mass, a "moving-force moving-mass" problem, is analyzed and compared with the corresponding simplified "moving-force" problem. The equation of motion in matrix form is formulated using Lagrangian approach and the assumed mode method. The effects of the presence of intermediate point constraints in reducing the fluctuation of the contact force between the mass and the beam and the possible separation of the mass from the beam are investigated. The equation of motion and the numerical results are expressed in dimensionless form. The numerical results presented are therefore applicable for a large combination of system parameters.

The energy-efficient design of sensing-based spectrum sharing of a multi-input and multi-output (MIMO) cognitive radio (CR) system with imperfect multiple antenna spectrum sensing is investigated in this study. Optimal resource allocation strategies, including sensing time and power allocation schemes, are studied to maximize the energy efficiency (EE) of the secondary base station under the transmit power and interference power constraints. EE problem is formulated as a nonlinear stochastic fractional programming of a nonconvex optimal problem. The EE problem is transformed into its equivalent nonlinear parametric programming and solved by one-dimension search algorithm. To reduce searching complexity, the search range was founded by demonstration. Furthermore, simulation results confirms that an optimal sensing time exists to maximize EE, and shows that EE is affected by the spectrum detection factors and corresponding constraints.

The multi-divisional knapsack problem is defined as a binary knapsack problem where each mutually exclusive division has its own capacity. In this paper, we present an extension of the multi-divisional knapsack problem that has generalized multiple-choice constraints. We explore the linear programming relaxation (P) of this extended problem and identify some properties of problem (P). Then, we develop a transformation which converts the problem (P) into an LP knapsack problem and derive the optimal solutions of problem (P) from those of the converted LP knapsack problem. The solution procedures have a worst case computational complexity of order $O(n^2{\log}\;n)$, where n is the total number of variables. We illustrate a numerical example and discuss some variations of problem (P).
Multiple quantile regression that simultaneously estimate several conditional quantiles of response given covariates can provide a comprehensive information about the relationship between the response and covariates. Some quantile estimates can cross if conditional quantiles are separately estimated; however, this violates the definition of the quantile. To tackle this issue, multiple quantile regression with non-crossing constraints have been developed. In this paper, we carry out a comparison study on several popular methods for non-crossing multiple linear quantile regression to provide practical guidance on its application.
In this paper the stochastic multiple objective programming problems where the right-hand-side of the constraints is stochastic are considered. We define the equivalent scalar-valued problem and study the stability of the equivalent scalar-valued problem with respect to the weight parameters and probability mesures under reasonable assumptions.
In this paper, we present an optimization of truss structures subjected to stress, buckling, and natural frequency constraints. The main objective of the present study is to propose an efficient HA-SA algorithm for solving the truss optimization subject to multiple constraints. The procedure of hybrid HA-SA is a search method which a design values in harmony memory of harmony search are used as an initial value designs in simulated annealing search method. The efficient optimization of HA-SA is illustrated through several optimization examples. The examples of truss structures are used 10-Bar truss, 52-Bar truss (Dome), and 72-Bar truss for natural frequency constraints, and used 18-Bar truss and 47-Bar (Tower) truss for stress and buckling constraints. The optimum results are compared to those of different techniques. The numerical results are demonstrated the advantages of the HA-SA algorithm in truss optimization with multiple constraints.

This paper addresses the problem of resource allocation in amplify-and-forward (AF) relayed OFDM based cognitive radio networks (CRNs). The purpose of resource allocation is to maximize the overall throughput, while satisfying the constraints on the individual power and the interference induced to the primary users (PUs). Additionally, different from the conventional resource allocation problem, the rate-guarantee constraints of the subcarriers are considered. We formulate the problem as a mixed integer programming task and adopt the dual decomposition technique to obtain an asymptotically optimal power allocation, subcarrier pairing and relay selection. Moreover, we further design a suboptimal algorithm that sacrifices little on performance but could significantly reduce computational complexity. Numerical simulation results confirm the optimality of the proposed algorithms and demonstrate the impact of the different constraints.
Quantile regression can estimate multiple conditional quantile functions of the response, and as a result, it provide comprehensive information of the relationship between the response and the predictors. However, when estimating several conditional quantile functions separately, two or more estimated quantile functions may cross or overlap and consequently violate the basic properties of quantiles. In this paper, we propose a new stepwise method to estimate multiple non-crossing quantile functions using constraints on the kernel coefficients. A simulation study are presented to demonstrate satisfactory performance of the proposed method.
A memory module industry's supply chain usually consists of multiple manufacturing sites and multiple distribution centers. In order to fulfill the variety of demands from downstream customers, production planners need not only to decide the order allocation among multiple manufacturing sites but also to consider memory module industrial characteristics and supply chain constraints, such as multiple material substitution relationships, capacity, and transportation lead time, fluctuation of component purchasing prices and available supply quantities of critical materials (e.g., DRAM, chip), based on human experience. In this research, a directed graph-based supply network planning (DGSNP) model is developed for memory module industry. In addition to multi-site order allocation, the DGSNP model explicitly considers production planning for each manufacturing site, and purchasing planning from each supplier. First, the research formulates the supply network's structure and constraints in a directed-graph form. Then, a proposed genetic algorithm (GA) solves the matrix form which is transformed from the directed-graph model. Finally, the final matrix, with a calculated maximum profit, can be transformed back to a directed-graph based supply network plan as a reference for planners. The results of the illustrative experiments show that the DGSNP model, compared to current memory module industry practices, determines a convincing supply network planning solution, as measured by total profit.

Many construction projects such as highways, pipelines, tunnels, and high-rise buildings typically contain repetitive activities. Research has shown that the Critical Path Method (CPM) is not efficient in scheduling linear construction projects that involve repetitive tasks. Linear Scheduling Method (LSM) is one of the techniques that have been developed since 1960s to handle projects with repetitive characteristics. Although LSM has been regarded as a technique that provides significant advantages over CPM in linear construction projects, it has been mainly viewed as a graphical complement to the CPM. Studies of scheduling linear construction projects with resource consideration are rare, especially with multiple resource constraints. The objective of this proposed research is to explore a resource assignment mechanism, which assigns multiple critical resources to all activities to minimize the project duration while satisfying the activities precedence relationship and resource limitations. Resources assigned to an activity are allowed to vary within a range at different stations, which is a combinatorial optimization problem in nature. A heuristic multiple resource allocation algorithm is explored to obtain a feasible initial solution. The Simulated Annealing search algorithm is then utilized to improve the initial solution for obtaining near-optimum solutions. A housing example is studied to demonstrate the resource assignment mechanism.
