  • We consider a supply chain consisting of a make-to-order manufacturer and N component suppliers and study the impacts of the number of suppliers on component inventory management. The manufacturer has full information and continuously observes the state of both component inventory level and customer backorders. Based on this information, the manufacturer determines whether or not to place a component purchasing order to a supplier among N suppliers even though some orders are in process by other suppliers. The goal of this paper is to numerically identify the manufacturer's purchasing policy which minimizes the total supply chain cost and the best choice of N. Our model contributes to the current literature in that the problem of simultaneously considering multiple outstanding orders and incorporating order setup cost into the model has not been covered yet. From numerical experiment, we investigate how much the policy with N suppliers can contribute to reducing the supply cost compared to the policy with a single supplier.

  • In this paper, we propose the coordination scheme in a single-manufacturer-multiple-retailer supply chain system. Traditionally, the bargaining power of the single manufacturer is superior to those of retailers. The business environment supported by the e-business scheme may give rise to new business behavior. The multitude of retailer requests the manufacturer to relax the his unilateral lot-sizing policy while they are willing to compensate more than the manufacturer's expected loss caused by abandon his superior bargaining power. The side payment aggregated by the multiple retailers is transferred to the manufacturer according to the degree of the manufacturer's relaxation from the current unilateral lot-sizing policy.

  • As productions and deliveries of multiple products to multiple marketplaces have been increasingly popular, supply chain flexibility, which refers to an ability to deal with demand and capacity uncertainty, becomes an important issue in supply chain management. However, logistics costs have been largely neglected in the literature on supply chain flexibility structure. In this paper, we propose mathematical models to investigate the impact of the logistics costs on the optimal flexibility structure. We also conduct a simulation study and observe that logistics costs have a significant impact on the decision on supply chain flexibility structure. Such conclusion is also supported by the case study of a global car manufacturer, Honda Motors.

  • In this study, factors that influence water supply capacities of dams are extracted using factor analysis, and multiple regression equations for estimating water supply capacities of dams are developed using the analysis results. Twenty-one multi-purpose dams and twelve Municipal and Industrial (M&I) water supply dams are selected for case studies, and eight variables influencing water supply capacities of dams, namely: watershed area, inflow, effective reservoir storage, grade on amount of M&I water supply, grade on amount of agricultural water supply, grade on amount of in-stream flow supply, grade on river administration, and grade on average rainfall, are determined. Two case studies for multi-purpose dams and M&I water supply dams are performed, employing factor analysis, respectively. For the two cases, preliminary tests, such as reviewing matrix of correlation coefficient, Bartlett's test of sphericity, and Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test, are conducted to evaluate the suitability of the variables for factor analysis. In case of multi-purpose dams, variables are grouped into three factors; M&I water supply dams, two factors. The factors are rotated using Varimax method, and then factor loading of each variable is computed. The results show that the variables influencing water supply capacities of dams are reasonably selected and appropriately grouped into factors. In addition, multiple regression equations for predicting the amounts of annual water supply of dams are established using the factor scores as explanatory variables, it is identified that the models' accuracies are high, and their applications to determining effective storage capacity of a dam during dam planning and design steps are presented. Consequently, it is thought that the variables and factors are useful for dam planning and dam design.

  • With the increase of electrical consumption and the unbalance of power demand and supply, power reserve rate is getting smaller and also the reliability of the power supply is getting deteriorated. Under this circumstance, the electrical energy storage (EES) System is considered as one of essential countermeasure for demand side management. This paper proposes efficient evaluation algorithms of multiple functions for EES systems, especially the secondary battery energy storage systems, in the case where they are interconnected with the power distribution systems. It is important to perform the economic evaluation for the new energy storage systems in a quantitative manner, because they are very costly right now. In this paper, the multiple functions of EES systems such as load levelling, effective utilization of power distribution systems and uninterruptible power supply are classified, and then the quantitative evaluation methods for their functions are proposed. From the case studies, it is verified that EES systems installed at distribution systems in a dispersed manner have multiple functions involved with direct and indirect benefits and also they can be expected to introduce to distribution systems with respects to economical point of view.

  • We propose a low power level-up/down shifter with single supply that can be used at SoC with multiple supply. The proposed circuit interfaces IPs which are operated on the different supply voltages. The circuit is designed with a single supply that decreases the low power consumption and the complexity of supply routing and layout. The proposed circuit operated at 500MHz for level-up and at 1GHz for level-down. The level-up/down shifter improves noise immunity of the system at I/O circuit. The circuit is evaluated for 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V supply with 0.18um CMOS technology, respectively.

  • Remanufacturing is a process of recovering end-of-life products into serviceable parts for producing new products. Due to the limited supply of recovery cores to remanufacture, a remanufacturing firm also needs to produce or procure new parts for fulfilling the demand. This paper is targeted for solving the problem of determining the optimal amount of newly produced and remanufacturing parts, which is called production and remanufacturing planning (PRP) problem, under uncertain supply of recovery cores. The new production mitigates the risk of insufficient core supply while it takes more costs than the remanufacturing. The PRP model in this paper also considers disassemble-to-order (DTO) environment, in which multiple kinds of parts are remanufactured from multiple products on order of the parts. Whereas existing studies presents only heuristic solutions for DTO remanufacturing, this paper provides an exact solution for this problem and analytical sensitivity of the involved cost parameters, adopting multi-dimensional newsvendor modeling and stochastic linear programming techniques. The result shows that production and remanufacturing plans for multiple products are mutually dependent, and a change of cost parameters involved in only one part is propagated to all other parts.

  • This research aimed to understand the relationship between comparative superiority elements of the supply chain activities for food supplies in the hotel industry. The samples are obtained from exclusive hotels located in the Seoul area. A statistic package program called SPSS was employed to conduct reliability analysis, factor analysis, t-test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results of a multiple regression analysis between supply chain management and food production strategies were as follows; company's characters and cooperative relations with suppliers had a significant impact on cost while quality was significantly affected by company's characters, information system, cooperative relations with suppliers, and supply chain activities. It was revealed that all factors had a significant impact on flexibility and delivery date.

  • In this paper, the multiple output forward converter forPC power supply with weighted voltage mode control which improves the characteristics of DC and transient responses is analyzed and designed. The power stage model of this converter including all the major parasitic components is derived and the small signal model is also derived. Determination of the weighting factors and a design procedure for the loop compensation are presented. Finally, the proposed controller is verified through the simulation of three output forward converter with SABER, and the experiment.

  • The subject of externality of agricultural water supply has been discussed in the OECD AC ( Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Agriculture Committee) while argued between monsoon Asian developing countries and the agricultural product export nations (Australia, EU, etc). It argued that a 'positive' approach to multifunctionality views agriculture as an economic activity with multiple, interconnected outputs or effects, and a 'normative' approach interprets multifunctionality in terms of the multiple roles assigned to agriculture. and the agricultural product export nations insisted 'negative' approach to externality of agricultural water supply like causing water pollution. So, in this study, define the externalities (positive, negative and economic, environmental) in terms of the agricultural water supply and calculate benefit and cost each the externalities by cost estimation. As results, BC is calculated to 1.28 which means that it is more economical to agricultural water supply and shows that although the negative exernalities comes out while supply the agricultural water, it still more valuable to supply the agricultural water.
