  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of perceived parental behavior and children’s coping behaviors with parent-related problems on parent-related stress. The subjects were 234 children composed of 115 3rd-graders and 119 6th-graders elected from three elementary schools in Seoul(121 males and 113 females). Statistical techniques were means, Percentages, Scheffe test, ANOVA and Multiple Regressions. The major findings of this study were as follows : 1) There was a significant difference in parent-related stress with respect to perceived parental behavior and coping behaviors of childrens such as passive, avoidant, and aggressive coping. Perceived parental behavior and aggressive coping behavior showed significant interaction effects. When children perceived parental behavior as being less suppotive and children more aggressively coped with parent-related problems, parent-rotated stress increased in level. 2) Among perceived parental behavior and pasive, avoid, aggressive coping behavior, perceived parental behavior and passive coping behavior were significant predictors of parent-related stress. Perceived parental behavior was much more predictor of parent-related stress than the passive coping behavior.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship of hardiness, job stress, and burnout in nurses, and to identify predictors of burnout. Method: Empirical data were collected from 154 staff nurses at one university hospital in Gwangju city. Self- reported questionnaires were composed of the Personal Views Survey(PVS), job stress scale, Tedium scale, and 7 items asking nurse's general characteristics. Data analysis was done with a SAS package. Result: In correlation analysis, hardiness, job stress, and nursing satisfaction had significant correlation with burnout. In stepwise multiple regression, 28.7% of the variance in burnout was accounted for by nursing satisfaction (19.9%), job stress (6.0%), and hardiness (2.8%). Among subscales of hardiness, only commitment was a significant predictor, so nursing satisfaction, job stress, and commitment explained 28.9% of variance in burnout. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, the development of program for nurses to increase nursing satisfaction is needed, and more studies to examine causal relationship between nursing satisfaction and burnout is also highly recommended.

  • The study investigated the interrelations between infant temperament, mothers' affective parenting, and maternal parenting stress. The study also studied the moderating effects of mothers' affective parenting between infant temperament and maternal parenting stress. Data on 1,863 mothers with children aged under 12 months from the 2008 Panel Study on Korean Children were analyzed using PASW ver. 23.0 to carry out descriptive statistics, correlation co-efficiencies, and hierarchical multiple regression. The results show that infant temperament and mothers' affective parenting were significantly correlated with maternal parenting stress. The findings also prove the moderating effects of mothers' affective parenting on the relationship between infant emotionality, negative temperament, and maternal parenting stress.

  • This study investigated first, socio-economic, residential characteristics, and values for future life among low-income family wives. Second, the relationship of these characteristics to the wives' stress was examined. The subjects were 249 mothers of urban low-income families whose children attended one of 20 daycare centers located in poor residential areas. The instruments included Social Network Scale, Home Stress Scale, and Occupation Stress Scale. Data were analyzed by means, standard deviations, frequencies, paired t-tests, and the stepwise multiple regressions. We found that a majority of the mothers and their husbands had high school educational status and simple labor or sales/service work status. They lived in rental houses or apartments. Their families of origin were a major source of emotional supports. Insufficient income for non-employed wives, long work hours and lack of free time for employed wives were a major stress. Levels of the wives' home-related job-related stress were negatively related to their own and their hudsbands' work status.

Method: The subjects of this study consisted of 210 hemodialysis patients. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, pearson's correlation coefficient, or stepwise multiple regression analysis by using SPSS/PC+ program. Result: Sleep disorder degree averaged 2.24. Stress of hemodialysis patients averaged 2.52. Depression degree of hemodialysis patients averaged 1.14. There was significant difference in sleep disorder according to age, marriage status, education, family income and help-givers. Sleep disorder was significantly associated with stress and depression. Stress, depression and marriage status explained 31.3% of the variance in the sleep disorder. Conclusion: In conclusion, the sleep disorder of hemodialysis patients is the nursing problem. The sleep disorder degree relates with stress, depression. Especially, it is strongly affected by stress among them.

The subjects were 286 unemployed mothers who have less than 5-year-old children. The statistics used for this data were frequency, percentile, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression. The finding from the present study certainly suggested that mother's level of self-differentiation, marital satisfaction, father's parenting support turned out to a significant variables on maternal parenting stress. Results of the regression analysis that the etiologic model of this study was more proper to urban than rural area, and father's parenting support is the most effective variable in predicting maternal parenting stress in both area. Implications based on this study are as follows ; parenting education programs to encourage for father's parenting support with be developed, and various empirical studies about maternal parenting stress in with area will be needed.
