We have performed new narrow-band calcium photometry for Milky Way globular clusters (GCs) and detected multiple red giant branches (RGBs) in some massive GCs. Our new calcium filter was designed to avoid the CN contamination below $3883{\AA}$ and to measure only Ca II H&K lines. The fact that we are detecting multiple RGBs from the new filter is suggesting that they are indeed different in calcium abundance, which can only be produced by supernovae (SNe). Therefore, the presence of the multiple RGBs for the peculiar GCs in the calcium photometry is best understood if the later generation of stars are enhanced in some SNe products. In this talk, we will present our progress in the calcium photometry for the peculiar GCs showing the multiple RGBs.
We propose the hardwired distributed arithmetic which is applied to multiple constant multiplications and the fixed data path in the inner product of fixed coefficient as a result of variable radix-2 multi-bit coding. Variable radix-2 multi-bit coding is to reduce the partial product in constant multiplication and minimize the number of addition and shifts. At results, this procedure reduces the number of partial products that the required multiplication timing is shortened, whereas the area reduced relative to the DA architecture. Also, this architecture shows the best performance for DCT/IDCT and DWT architecture in the point of area reduction up to 20% from reducing the partial products up to 40% maximally.
Supply chain management issues faced by a manufacturing company are considered in this paper. The supply chain consists of a manufacturing company and its suppliers. The manufacturer produces multiple products with inputs (e.g., raw materials) from the suppliers, but each product needs a different mix of these inputs. The market demand for the products is uncertain. We develop a mathematical model and algorithm, which can help the manufacturer to solve its procurement decision problem: how much of raw material to order from which supplier. The model incorporates such factors as market demand uncertainty, product's input requirement, supplier's as well as manufacturer's capacity, plus other costs comparable with those in a typical newsboy problem. Numerical examples are presented to see the interacting effects among critical parameters and variables.
The synchronization of production-delivery artivities is one of crucial factors to get competitive collaboration benefits between the manufacturer and the retailor(s). There were several researches to study on He optimal delivery policy to minimize the total cost of integrated system of both manufacturer and retailor(s). In this research, we investigate the joint optimal shipment policy in case that a manufacturer produces multiple products sharing a single production facility in the manufacturer side and retailor(s) deploys JIT delivery pattern with equal-size shipment policy. We formulate this problem as a form of 'Common Cycle Approach' in classical ELSP (Economic Lot Scheduling Problem) and provide simple optimal solution procedure.
This paper constructs Croup Technology process-based learning curve model adjusted to a Group Technology environment which accounts for shared learning that occurs when multiple products utilize some of the same process steps. Through this constructed model, the estimated times and productivity of labor calculated by the Group Technology process-based learning curve model are compared with those generated by employing product-based 1 earning curve model. For sensitivity analysis of the model, the impact of learning rate and the ordered production quantity on the ratio differences between Group Technology process-based learning curve model and product-based learning curve model are examined. These results indicate the critical importance of employing Group Technology process-based learning curve model when a process spans multiple products.
This study examined the influences of science project activities based on multiple intelligences on problem solving behaviors of elementary school children. Specifically, the influences of the project activities on the problem solving skills and propensities of the children were investigated. Forty-four fifth graders were selected for the study. They performed the projects and made their products of it during five months on the units of "Weather" and "Our Body" Criteria for assessment of problem solving abilities were determined. The patterns reflected in products of the project activities were examined, then the observation of the subjects' problem solving behaviors and the interviews were performed based on the criteria. The results were analyzed through both of qualitative and quantitative approaches. In these analyses, the implementation of the science projects was found to contribute to the improvement in all sub-factors of problem solving, specially, skills associated with the propensities of problem identification and of the collection, analysis, and synthesis of data significantly increased
The purpose of this study was to examine factors affecting compulsive buying behavior purchasing behavior. Four hundred female college students who have purchased fashion products via Internet shopping or TV home shopping were surveyed. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test, and multiple regression analysis were used. As the results, 16.3% of respondents were revealed as compulsive buyers. For materialism instrument, four factors of materialism were found and labeled as 'material'. 'consumption', 'happiness', and 'economic value' factors. Also, two factors of entertainment pursuit were also identified as 'change' and 'adventure' pursuit. There were statistically significant differences between compulsive buyers and non-compulsive buyers in terms of materialism, success, and change pursuit, self-esteem, compensation, impulsive purchasing, and binge eating. Compulsive consumption scores were correlated to higher materialism, compensatory, impulsive purchasing, binge eating, shifting, entertainment pursuit, and lower self-esteem. Also, results of multiple regression revealed that compensatory, binge eating, and happiness pursuit were significantly to related to compulsive buying.
Two furofuran lignans, sesamolin and sesangolin were isolated from the seeds of Sesamum indicum and S.angolense, respectively. Detailed analysis of the $^1H-and^{13}C-NMR$ spectra of these lignans was carried out by the application of two-dimensional $^1H-^1/H\; COSY\; and^1/H^{13}C$ multiple-bond, multiple-quantum spectroscopic correlation techniques.
The flowers of Chrysanthemum boreale afforded handelin, a unique guaianolide dimer and a mixture of n-hydrocarbons and n-hydrocarbon alcohols in addition to b-sitosterol and b-sitosterol glucoside. Detailed analysis of the $^{1}H$- and $^{13}C$-NMR spectra of handelin was carried out by the application of two-dimensional $^{1}H-^{1}H$-COSY and $^{1}H$- $^{13}C$ multiple-bond, multiple-quantum spectroscopic correlation techniques. Handelin was inactive in the in vitro anti-tumor activity.
An inventory control system was developed for a distribution system consisting of a single multiproduct warehouse serving a set of customers and purchasing products from multiple vendors. Purchase orders requesting multiple products are delivered to the warehouse in a process. The receipt of customer orders by the warehouse proceeded in order intervals and in order quantities that are subject to random fluctuations. The objective of warehouse operation is to minimize the total cost while maintaining inventory levels within the warehouse capacity by adjusting the purchase order intervals and quantities. An adaptive model predictive control algorithm was developed using a periodic square wave model to represent the material flows. The adaptive concept incorporated a stabilized minimum variance control-type input calculation coupled with input/output stream parameter predictions. The effectiveness of the scheme was demonstrated using simulations.
