  • Background: Landscape metrics have been widely applied to quantifying the relationship between land surface temperature and urban spatial patterns and have received acceptable verification from landscape ecologists but some studies have shown their inaccurate results. The objective of the study is to compare landscape metrics and texture-based measures as alternative indices in measuring urban heterogeneity effects on LST at multiple scales. Results: The statistical results showed that the correlation between urban landscape heterogeneity and LST increased as the spatial extent (scale) of under-study landscapes increased. Overall, landscape metrics showed that the less fragmented, the more complex, larger, and the higher number of patches, the lower LST. The most significant relationship was seen between edge density (ED) and LST (r = - 0.47) at the sub-region scale. Texture measures showed a stronger relationship (R2 = 34.84% on average) with LST than landscape metrics (R2 = 15.33% on average) at all spatial scales, meaning that these measures had a greater ability to describe landscape heterogeneity than the landscape metrics. Conclusion: This study suggests alternative measures for overcoming landscape metrics shortcomings in estimating the effects of landscape heterogeneity on LST variations and gives land managers and urban planners new insights into urban design.

  • In multivariate regression analysis there exist many influence measures on the regression estimates. However it seems to be few of influence diagnostics on test statistics in hypothesis testing. Case-deletion approach is fundamental for investigating influence of observations on estimates or statistics. Tang and Fung (1997) derived single case-deletion of the Wilks' ratio, Lawley-Hotelling trace, Pillai's trace for testing a general linear hypothesis of the regression coefficients in multivariate regression. In this paper we derived more extended form of those measures to deal with joint influence among observations. A numerical example is given to illustrate the effect of joint influence on the test statistics.

  • This study was conducted to present basic improvement measures to improve the negative construction industry image of construction workers in the future, by investigating the construction industry images that construction workers have, through previous studies and analyzing the factors influencing these images, based on the multiple regression model. But this study is limited to construction workers and failed to establish specific improvement measures. Therefore, continued research which remedies the limitation of this study, will performed in the future.

  • The main purpose of our study is to propose a new methodology to develop the multi-parametric measure including linear and nonlinear measures of heart rate variability diagnosing cardiovascular disease. We recorded electrocardiogram for three recumbent postures; the supine, left lateral, and right lateral postures. Twenty control subjects (age: $56.70{\pm}9.23$ years), 51 patients with angina pectoris (age: $59.98{\pm}8.41$ years) and 13 patients with acute coronary syndrome (age: $59.08{\pm}9.86$ years) participated in this study. To develop the multi-parametric measure of HRV, we used the multiple discriminant analysis method among statistical techniques. As a result, the multiple discriminant analysis gave 75.0% of goodness of fit. When the linear and nonlinear measures of HRV are individually used as a clinical tool to diagnose cardiac autonomic function, there is quite a possibility that the wrong results will be obtained due to each measure has different characteristics. Although our study is a preliminary one, we suggest that the multi-parametric measure, which takes into consideration the whole possible linear and nonlinear measures of HRV, may be helpful to diagnose the cardiovascular disease as a diagnostic supplementary tool.

  • We are proposed for the computation of disease frequency measures and of their associated variances from data collected through prospective study of multiple dynamic cohort (herds) with a National Animal Health Monitoring System (NAHMS) in Gyeongnam. We can be estimated and calculated the annual incidence density for a group of herds and the 1-month risk of disease from the same within herd measure of monthly incidence density. We are proposed that the choice of measure to be estimated depend on the intended use of the information. From results in this study, Our study demonstrate that risk estimates are appropriates for producers and clinic veterinarian making decisions at the animal or herd level. Incidence density measures are appropriate for extrapolation to reference populations used for state and regional-level decision making.

  • Up to the present, the operating time has been studied on only a single aircraft attacking a single target or multiple targets under enemy threats. This study is to determine optimal operating time and appropriate size of aircrafts attacking multiple targets. Measures of mission effectiveness is defined through derivation of the probability of the various events associated with operating. By using these measures, the expected benefit of operating and the expected cost of operating are generated as a function of time. To formulate operating time determination model, the expected gain of operating is defined as the difference between the expected benefit of operating and the expected cost of operating. The model can be used to determine optimal operating time which maximizes the expected gain of operating, and can be used as the basis for determining the appropriate size of aircrafts.

  • Several performance measurement systems have been proposed and are currently being used in many organizations. However, no performance measurement system has presented a mechanism for integrating all of the information of performance measures in a way that considers the relationships between them. This paper proposes the performance information integration method (PIIM) which synthesizes all useful information of performance measures with consideration of the relationships and generates a single, global, organizational performance score. The PIIM showed good performance in the implementation in one long-term care facility. This paper provides performance measurement systems with an integration mechanism for multiple performance measures.

  • We have recognized that an organization should be viewed from a multifaceted perspective necessitating a sophisticated analytical and systematic approach to monitor and improve organizational performance. Although some performance measurement systems have been proposed and are currently being used in many organizations, no performance measurement system has presented a mechanism for integrating all of the information of performance measures in a way that considers relationships between them. This paper introduces the implementation of the performance information integration method(PIIM) which synthesizes all useful information of performance measures with consideration of the relationship and generates a single, global, organizational performance score. The PIIM was empirically validated by implementing in one of missouri Veterans Homes.

  • Genetic algorithm(GA) is applied for detecting multiple outliers. GA is a heuristic optimization tool solving for near optimal solution. We compare the performance of GA and the other diagnostic measures commonly used for detecting outliers in regression model. The results show that GA seems to have better performance than the others for the detection of multiple outliers.
