  • In this paper, performance of a pseudonoise (PN) code tracking loop is analyzed and simulated for a direct-sequence/code-division multiple access ( DS/CDMA) system with imperfect power control in a multipath fading channel. A noncoherent first-order delay-locked loop (DLL) is considered as a PN code tracking loop. Power control error is modeled as a log-normally distributed random variable. From the simulation results, it is shown that for smaller discriminator offset, tracking jitter performance is improved while MTLL performance is degraded. It is shown that large power control error and heavy shadowing substantially degrade the PN tracking performance. The analysis in this paper can be applicable to design of PN code tracking loop for a DS/CDMA system.

  • This paper applies transmit antenna selection algorithms to spatial-temporal combining-based spatial multiplexing (SM) ultra-wideband (UWB) systems. The employed criterion is based on the largest minimum output signal-to-noise ratio of the multiplexed streams. It is shown via simulations that the bit error rate (BER) performance of the SM UWB systems based on the two-dimensional Rake receiver is significantly improved by antenna diversity through transmit antenna selection on a log-normal multipath fading channel. When the transmit antenna diversity through antenna selection is exploited in the SM UWB systems, the BER performance of the spatial-temporal combining-based zero-forcing (ZF) receiver is also compared with that of the ZF detector followed by the Rake receiver.

  • Underwater acoustic wave in shallow water is propagated through multipath that has a large delay spread causing Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) and these characteristics deteriorate the performance in the communication system. In order to analyze the communication performance and investigate the correlation with multipath delay spread in a reverberant environment, an underwater acoustic communication experiment using Binary Phase-Shift Keying (BPSK) signals with symbol rates from 100 sym/s to 8000 sym/s was conducted in a 5 × 5 × 5 m3 water tank. The acoustic channels in a well-controlled tank environment had the characteristics of dense multipath delay spread due to multiple reflections from the interfaces and walls within the tank and showed the maximum excess delay of 40 ms or less, and the Root Mean Squared (RMS) delay spread of 8 ms or less. In this paper, the performances of Bit Error Rate (BER) and output Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) were analyzed using four types of communication demodulation techniques. And the parameter, Symbol interval to Delay spread Ratio in reverberant environment (SDRrev), which is the ratio of symbol interval to RMS delay spread in the reverberant environment is defined. Finally, the SDRrev was compared to the BER and the output SNR. The results present the reference symbol rate in which high communication performance can be guaranteed.

  • In order to transmit high-speed wide band signals efficiently in multipath fading environments, M-ary QAM signalling combined with OFDM transmission technique is applied. In this paper, the effect of synchronization error caused by carrier frequency offset and SER(Symbol Error Rate) performance of OFDM-16QAM and OFDM-64QAM are theoretically analyzed. Our result shows that as the number of sub-carrier in OFDM system increases the frequency-offset caused inter-channel interference(ICI) increases significantly, and that an error floor occurs even at high SNR of OFDM system. For OFDM-64QAM, the error floor occurs at SER=1$\times$10-7 when a normalized frequency-offset is 0.001, in which the SNR degradation is much greater than that of OFDM-16QAM. From this study the maximum allowable frequency-offset of OFDM-16QAM and OFDM-64QAM systems can be determined to meet the specific SER requirement.

  • MC-DS-CDMA is technique where a single data symbol is transmitted at multiple subcarriers which are orthogonal to each other. With this technique, frequency diversity can be achieved. Time variant channels lead to interchannel interference which increases the bit error rate for MC-DS-CDMA systems. The performance of PSAM MC-DS-CDMA system over time variant channels is analyzed. The BER performance of this system over multipath fading environment is evaluated, considering the channel estimation error, carrier frequency offset.

  • This paper describes the development of the telemetry link system for the high data rate transmission in high speed rocket application. In consideration of bandwidth efficiency, frequency selective fading and doppler frequency offset, we used DQPSK instead of PCM/FM which has been the primary modulation format in aeronautical telemetry. Also we used the spatial diversity with multiple receiving antennas to mitigate multipath interference which is the dominant channel impairment and the Turbo Product Code for Forward Error Correction to improve bit error rate performance.

  • In this paper, a nonlinear algorithm that maximizes zero-error probability (MZEP) with decision feedback (DF) is proposed to counteract both of severely distorted multi-path fading effect and impulsive noise. The proposed MZEP-DF algorithm has shown the immunity to impulsive noise and the ability of the feedback filter section to cancel the remaining intersymbol interference as well. Compared with the linear MZEP algorithm, it yields above 10 dB enhancement of steady state MSE performance in severely distorted multipath fading channels with impulse noise where the least mean square (LMS) algorithm does not converge below -3dB of MSE.

  • Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with space-time coding (STC) is a promising technology for future wireless communication systems. However, MIMO-OFDM systems are greatly impaired by large cochannel interference (CCI) from the multiple transmitters. In this paper, we propose pre-fast Fourier transform (FFT) multibeamforming based on MMSE(minimizing the mean squared error) for a MIMO-OFDM system to preserves the STC diversity and to remove the CCI. The improvement in bit error rate is investigated through computer simulation of a MIMO-OFDM system in a multipath channel with CCI.

  • Position of the vehicle for driving is essential to autonomous navigation. However, there appears GPS position error due to multipath which is occurred by tall buildings in downtown area. In this paper, GPS position error is corrected by using camera sensor and highly accurate map made with 3D-Lidar. Input image through inverse perspective mapping is converted into top-view image, and it works out map matching with the map which has intensity of 3D-Lidar. Performance comparison was conducted between this method and traditional way which does map matching with input image after conversion of map to pinhole camera image. As a result, longitudinal error declined 49% and complexity declined 90%.

  • In part-1 of this paper, the error rate equations of digitally modulated signals transmitted though the Gaussian/Impulsive noise channel have been derived. Using the derived equations for the error probabilities of ASK, QAM, CPSK, DPSK, FSK and MSK signals, the error rate performances of digital modulation systems have been evaluated and represented in the figures as the functions of carrier-to-noise power ratio(CNR), impulsive index, and the ration of Gaussian noise power component to impulsive noise power component. The results are shown in graphs to known how much impulsive noise effects on digital signals than Gaussian noise.
