  • 데이터(data)치 홍수와 정보의 빈곤이라는 환경에 처한 지금, 정보기술을 이용하여 데이터를 여과하고, 분석하며, 결과를 해석하는 자동화 된 데이터 분석 방안에 높은 관심을 가지게 되었으며, 데이터 마이닝(Data Mining))은 이러한 요구를 충족시키는 정보기술의 활용방법이다. 특히 데이터 마이닝(Data Mining)의 분류(Classification) 방법은 중요한 분야가 되고 있다. 분류 작업의 핵심은 어떻게 적당한 결정규칙(decision rule)을 정의하느냐에 달려 있는데 이를 위해 학습능력을 가지고 있는 알고리즘이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 유전자 알고리즘(Genetic Algorithm)을 기반으로 하는 강건한 학습방법을 제시했으며, 이러한 학습을 통해 데이터 마이닝(Data Mining)의 분류시스템을 제안하였다.

A Logistic Regression for Random Noise Removal in Image Deblurring (영상 디블러링에서의 임의 잡음 제거를 위한 로지스틱 회귀)

  • In this paper, we propose a machine learning method for random noise removal in image deblurring. The proposed method uses a logistic regression to select reliable data to use them, and, at the same time, to exclude data, which seem to be corrupted by random noise, in the deblurring process. The proposed method uses commonly available images as training data. Simulation results show an improved performance of the proposed method, as compared with the median filtering based reliable data selection method.

A Context Free Grammar based Algorithm for Generating Playable Transcoding Paths of the Multimedia Presentation with Different End-to-End QoS (종단간 상이한 QoS를 갖는 멀티미디어 연출 재생을 위한 CFG 기반의 변환 경로 생성 알고리즘)

  • Since various terminals and different networks get involved in playing of a multimedia presentation, the case that the presentation QoS at a destination should be different from the QoS of multimedia data at a source occurs frequently. For playing the multimedia presentation, the multimedia data at a source should be transcoded into the multimedia data satisfying the QoS required at the terminal. The problem of generating the transcoding path is that, for a given multimedia presentation, different transcoding paths depending the terminal and networks should be generated. That is, a fixed transcoding path cannot be applied to a multimedia presentation. Instead, whenever the terminal and network to play the presentation get determined, a proper transcoding path should be regenerated automatically. In this paper, the algorithm for generating the transcoding path and the method for checking the playability of the generated path are proposed. The generating algorithm adopted the technique of Context Free Grammar in describing the set of transcoding resources and a user's transcoding rules in order to utilize the well-known compiler techniques. For the playability check, a method of computing the transcoding time and the delay time between data units are proposed. Finally all the proposed methods were implemented in the stream engine, called Transcore and the presentation-authoring tool, called VIP, we had developed. And the test results with a sample scenario were presented at the last.

A Study on the Design Characteristics of Multimedia Center in Public Library by Space Planning Elements (공공도서관 디지털자료실의 공간계획요소별 디자인특성 연구)

  • A public library is changing into a place where people can freely acquire and make use of information in digital environment with the basic ideology of publicity. In spite of such changes, multimedia center is still biased with the function of computer room to use PC and is not used actively by many users. This study can be summarized and concluded as follows and spatial characteristics of digital data room of public library can make use of space planning elements by aspects as an analysis tool. First, designed characteristics focusing too much on the possession of seats for reading digital data. Therefore, spatial planning for users to choose necessary facilities according to the data they wish to read and type of users is needed. Second, interior tone of multimedia center is applied with identical color for all floors, walls, and ceilings, to create sense of unification. However, due to the arrangement of similar colors, while using identical brightness and chroma, some users felt difficult to realize shape or depth in space. It is more appropriate to apply distinctive color plan according to the characteristic of the data or space region, in order to create pleasant digital environment for visually weaker people or elderly. Third, psychological or technical factors of multimedia center is not sufficiently applied in space planning elements for users. In order for various digital service of public library to be technically implemented, it is necessary to organize open space by expanding the size of multimedia center to utilize high-tech facilities.

Visualization System for Natural Disaster Data (자연재난 데이터 실감 가시화 시스템)

  • We introduces a system that enables fast and effective visualization of natural disaster data such as typhoons, tsunamis, floods, and flooding to help make informed decisions in disaster situations. Data containing disaster information consists of a few hundred megabytes to many tens and hundreds of gigabytes, which can not be handled by a PC. This system was implemented in the form of a client-server based service to generate and output results from high-performance servers. The server in a built-in, high-performance cluster handles client requests and sends the result of visualization to the client. Clients can receive the results in any form of images, videos, or 3D graphic model by specifying a desired time frame, effectively viewing the results with a user-friendly GUI.

Design and Implementation of a CORBA/JMF-based Audio/Video Stream System (CORBA/JMF 기반 오디오/비디오 스트림 시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • Recently advances in high-speed networks and multimedia computer technologies allow new types of multimedia applications to manipulate large volumes of multimedia data. However, in the real time and/or the heterogeneous data transmissions, there are many difficulties such as network transmission delay, the implementation difficulties, and so on. To solve these problems, in this paper, we extend the method of the multimedia service design which is proposed by OMG. To do this, we suggest an efficient real time audio/video stream framework, called Smart Explorer, based un CORBA and JMF Java Media API. And we separate the transmission path of control data from that of media data and use RTP/RTCP protocol for efficient real time audio/video transmission. Also we show the appropriate implementation of the audio/video stream system based on our suggested framework Smart Explorer. In the future, we expect our audio/video stream system to be applied to the real time communication software such as broadcasting, distance learning, and video conferencing.

  • Recently, although there are strong requirements to manage multimedia data, there are a few researches on efficient storage and retrieval of multimedia data. In this paper, we design an object storage engine which can store and retrieve various multimedia objects efficiently. For this, we design an object manager for storing a variety of multimedia data and an inverted file manager for indexing unformatted text objects. In addition, we implement the objects storage engine which can support concurrency control and recovery schemes of DBMS by integrating the object manager and the inverted file manager with the SHORE low-level storage system. Finally, we develope a TIROS(Thesis Information Retrieval using Object Storage engine) system in order to verify the usefulness of our object storage engine.

  • In the tele-medical system, the broadband network for multimedia telecommunication and the multimedia terminal equipment for the remote access of the tele-medical information are essential. Especially, the tele-medical terminal equipment should provide the multimedia GUI environment in order to support the similar medical process by the tele-medical system. In this paper, we present a multimedia GUI (Graphic User Interface) for a Multimedia Tele-Medical System (TeleMedi_GUI) based on ATM/B-ISDN. In the tele-medical system, one workstation is used for the multimedia data server that is supporting multiple client terminals that are connected by the ATM network. The client terminals are based on Multimedia Personal Computers, and provide the remote access environment of the tele-medical database. We also developed the remote access protocols among the clients and the server to access multimedia medical information of the multimedia server. With using the TeleMedi_GUI, the doctors can examine and treat patients efficiently, using image data like X-ray/CT and voice data such as the S-ray diagnosis. The result of this paper can be applied to the following areas: 1) the implementation of the advanced medical service system interconnecting the small-scale health center and general hospitals, 2) the development of a fully computerized medical information system within the hospital.

A Heuristic Search Based Optimal Transcoding Path Generation Algorithm for the Play of Multimedia Data (멀티미디어 자료 재생을 위한 경험적 탐색 기반 최적 트랜스코딩 경로 생성 알고리즘)

  • According to rapidly developed mobile terminals and network in the play environment for multimedia presentation, different end-to-end QoS situations appear. Then the generation of transcoding path algorithm was reviewed to transcode a source'data satisfying the needed QoS from a destination and play it considering given transcoders and network. This method used only workload as a parameter although two parameters, workload and throughput, were needed to process multimedia stream in a transcoder, Therefore generated transcoding path with this method had additional calculation to check playability whether it was safisfed the QoS of a destination or not. To solve the problem this paper suggests T algorithm with evaluation function using isochronous property that is needed for multimedia stream to arrive a destination. That means, most playable path is selected with heuristic search based isochronous property between many transcoding paths. Using the suggested algorithm, a transcoding path can be generated faster to play the multimedia data with different end-to-end QoS in real-time transmission.

  • As multimedia technology has rapidly grown recently, many researches to process multimedia data efficiently using general-purpose processors have been studied. In this paper, we proposed multimedia instructions which can process multimedia data effectively, and suggested a processor architecture for those instructions. The processor was described with Verilog-HDL in the behavioral level and simulated with CADENCE$^{TM}$ tool. Proposed multimedia instructions are total 48 instructions which can be classified into 7 groups. Multimedia data have 64-bit format and are processed as parallel subwords of 8-bit 8 bytes, 16-bit 4 half words or 32-bit 2 words. Modeled processor is developed based on the Integer Unit of SPARC V.9. It has five-stage pipeline RISC architecture with Harvard principle.e.
