  • With the development of Next Generation convergence Network, the current Internet needs a new network architecture and new session establishment methods, which can support various applications requiring differentiated traffic processing and high quality of service instead of the conventional best-effort service. It is expected that, in next generation network based on All-IP. SIP will play an important role in the session establishment between the end to end user terminals. In this paper, we propose a new network architecture that can provide quality of service based on SIP using the QoS enabled SIP servers and policy servers, and we also propose a new session establishment method that apply the user's demands participating the session establishment when setting up the session using the SIP. Through simulations under various environments, we show the parameter ranges in terms of server capacity and the number of users in access networks to achieve reasonable delay bounds.

  • In a VOD system, it is desirable to provide the user with interactive VCR functions such as fast-forward and fast-backward. Typically, these functions can be implemented using the segment interleaving technique in disk away based VOD servers. But the segment interleaving nay not ensure QoS of users because of the concentrated load within some disks. In this paper, we propose an efficient load balancing technique for evenly distributing the retrieval requests across the disks. The proposed technique maintains an access counter in each disk, which has the number of disk accesses. The fast-forward/backward can be achieved by choosing a segment to be accessed from the disk with the minimum number among the access counters. We conduct simulation experiments and then show that our proposed technique outperforms the previous ones.

  • This paper proposes the DDMPF(Distributed Data Management Protocol using FAT) which prevents data loss and keeps the security of self-organized storages by comprising a client, a storage server, and a verification server in clouding environment. The DDMPF builds a self-organized storage server, solves data loss by decentralizing the partitioned data in it in contrast to the centralized problem and the data loss caused by the storage server problems of existing clouding storages, and improves the efficiency of distributed data management with FAT(File Allocation Table). And, the DDMPF improves the reliability of data by a verification server's verifying the data integrity of a storage server, and strengthens the security in double encryption with a client's private key and the system's master key using EC-DH algorithm. Additionally, the DDMPF limits the number of verification servers and detects the flooding attack by setting the TS(Time Stamp) for a verification request message and the replay attack by using the nonce value generated newly, whenever the verification is requested.

  • We introduces a system that enables fast and effective visualization of natural disaster data such as typhoons, tsunamis, floods, and flooding to help make informed decisions in disaster situations. Data containing disaster information consists of a few hundred megabytes to many tens and hundreds of gigabytes, which can not be handled by a PC. This system was implemented in the form of a client-server based service to generate and output results from high-performance servers. The server in a built-in, high-performance cluster handles client requests and sends the result of visualization to the client. Clients can receive the results in any form of images, videos, or 3D graphic model by specifying a desired time frame, effectively viewing the results with a user-friendly GUI.

  • For real-time interactive multimedia operations, such as video uploading, video play, fast-forward, and fast-rewind, solid state disk (SSD)-based storage systems for video streaming servers are becoming more important. Random access rates in storage systems increase significantly with the number of users; it is thus difficult to simultaneously serve many users with HDD-based storage systems, which have low random access performance. Because there is no mechanical operation in NAND flash-based SSDs, they outperform HDDs in terms of flexible random access operation. In addition, due to the multichannel architecture of SSDs, they perform similarly to HDDs in terms of sequential access. In this paper, we propose a new SSD-based storage system for interactive media servers. Based on the proposed method, it is possible to maximize the channel utilization of the SSD's multichannel architecture. Accordingly, we can improve the performance of SSD-based storage systems for interactive media operations.

  • Software RAID(Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks) is defined as a storage system that provides capabilities of hardware RAID, and guarantees high reliability as well as high performance. In this paper, we propose an enhanced disk scheduling algorithm and a scheme to guarantee reliability of data. We also design and implement software RAID by utilizing these mechanism to develop a storage system for multimedia applications. Because the proposed algorithm improves a defect of traditional GSS algorithm that disk I/O requests arc served in a fixed order, it minimizes buffer consumption and reduces the number of deadline miss through service group exchange. Software RAID also alleviates data copy overhead during disk services by sharing kernel memory. Even though the implemented software RAID uses the parity approach to guarantee reliability of data, it adopts different data allocation scheme. Therefore, we reduce disk accesses in logical XOR operations to compute the new parity data on all write operations. In the performance evaluation experiments, we found that if we apply the proposed schemes to implement the Software RAID, it can be used as a storage system for small-sized video-on-demand servers.

  • Owing to the improved wireless communication technologies, it is possible to provide streaming service of multimedia with PDAs and mobile phones in addition to desktop PCs. Since mobile client devices have low computing power and low network bandwidth due to wireless network, the transcoding technology to adapt media for mobile client devices considering their characteristics is necessary. Transcoding servers transcode the source media to the target media within corresponding grades and provide QoS in real-time. In particular, an effective load balancing policy for transcoding servers is inevitable to support QoS for large scale mobile users. In this paper, the resource weighted load distribution policy is proposed for a fair load balance and a more scalable performance in cluster-based transcoding servers. Our proposed policy is based on the resource weighted table and number of maximum supported users, which are pre-computed for each pre-defined grade. We implement the proposed policy on cluster-based transcoding servers and evaluate its fair load distribution and scalable performance with the number of transcoding servers.

  • This paper presents new multimedia transmission and synchronization scheme for parallel server in wireless environment. The proposed scheme is developed for the parallel sewer that stores MPEG-4 data according to VOP (video object plane) types, i.e., I-, p-, and B-VOP. The goal of our research is to develop the enhanced multimedia transmission scheme that copes with load unbalancing, congestion, and jitter. Thus, we consider three issues; the data striping, the priority queuing, and the multimedia synchronization. First, we develop a parallel server architecture in which each server separately stores video data that is striped by the MPEG-4 VOP types.

  • Thesedays, there are many smart device applications developed, especially on the using various sensors included in the smart device. Smart devices have several sensors which are camera, GPS, mike, and communication module for collecting ubiquitous environment, and many applications are developed by using such sensors. In this paper, we developed the multimedia stream architecture and examined the smart device applications based on open source with front and back-end server clouds for developing the conceptual architecture. Also, we examined the back-end distributed servers, realtime multimedia stream transferring, multi-media store, and media relay for other server and smart devices. We test the examined architecture on the real target environment to collect the SIP initial setup time, media stream delay, and end-to-end play time. The test results show that there have good network operation environment to provide realtime multimedia services, and we need to improve the end-to-end play time by minimizing the initial setup time.

  • Content Delivery Network(CDN) is a mechanism to deliver multimedia content to end users on behalf of web content providers. Provider's content is distributed from content server to a set of delivery platforms located at Internet Service Providers(ISPs) through the CDN in order to realize better performance and availability than the system of centralized provider's servers. Existing work on CDN has primarily focused on techniques for efficiently multicasting the content from content server to the delivery platforms or to end users. Multimedia contents usually require broader bandwidth and accordingly WDM broadcast network has been highly recommended for the infrastructure network of CDN. In this paper, we propose methods for partitioning a multicast group into smaller subgroups using the previous status of receivers. Through the computer simulation, we show that proposed algorithm are useful to reduce the average receiver's waiting time and the number of transmissions.
