A Cross-Layer Approach to Fair Resource Allocation for Multimedia Service in WiMAX

  • In this paper, a cross-layer resource allocation mechanism is proposed for wireless multimedia service. In particular, a game theory based on quality of service (QoS) for multimedia users is introduced to deal with the fairness of network resource allocation in wireless networks. Moreover, the channel states of wireless users are additionally regarded under the cross-layer design in WiMAX environment. In details, the bargaining solution is adopted to discover the efficient and fair resource allocation strategy for multimedia service in considering QoS in the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and the channel states in the carrier-to-interface ratio (CINR). The proposed mechanism is illustrated and evaluated by simulation results of transmitting video sequences in WiMAX environment.

  • In this paper, I develop a simple dynamic resource allocation algorithm that reduces the call blocking rate by improving the resource utilization of the WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) systems under multimedia service environment. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm significantly reduces the blocking rate of high speed multimedia calls. The algorithm developed in this paper is currently working in the commercial WCDMA IMT-2000 system.

  • 모바일 멀티미디어 환경에서 초고속의 서비스를 요구하는 다수의 사용자를 수용하려면 마이크로/피코 셀과 같이 셀의 크기를 더욱 줄여서 무선 자원의 재사용성을 증대시켜야 한다. 특히 멀티미디어 트래픽의 전송 중에 핸드오버가 발생한다면, 멀티미디어 트래픽의 QoS가 지연 및 손실에 의하여 영향 받기 때문에 정지 상태와 동일한 QoS를 유지하기 위하여 효율적인 자원 예약 및 할당 방안이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 차세대 이동 통신망에서 멀티미디어 서비스의 효율적인 QoS를 제공하기 위한 방안의 하나로서, 수락 제어, 부하 제어 그리고 패킷 스케쥴러와 밀접한 관련성을 갖는 자원 할당 방법을 제안한다. 시뮬레이션을 통하여 제안된 방법의 우수성을 평가한다.

  • Game theory is adapted to a variety of domains such as economics, biology, engineering, political science, computer science, and philosophy in order to analyze economic behaviors. This research is an application of game theory to wireless communication. In particular, in terms of bargaining game we dealt with a multimedia resource allocation problem in wireless communication, which is rapidly spreading such as Wibro, WCDML, IPTV, etc. The algorithm is assumed to allocate multimedia resources to users who can choose and access differentiated media services. For this purpose, 3 utility function of users is devised to reflect quality of service (QoS) and price. We illustrated experimental results with synthesis data which were made to mimic real multimedia data, and analyzed differentiated service providing and the effect of the utility function.

Interference Resolving Radio Resource Allocation Scheme in a TDD-OFDMA/FDD-CDMA Hierarchical Over lay Cellular System

  • In order to support a cell-independent traffic asymmetry, the conventional TDD system cannot avoid crossed time slot (CTS) interference. Moreover, the TDD/FDD hierarchical overlay cellular systems is taken into account as a generally accepted cell model in a heterogeneous radio environment. In this paper, we propose an interference resolving radio resource allocation technique in a TDD-OFDMA cellular system that overlays a FDD-CDMA cell. In our proposed scheme, we exploit under-used FDD-CDMA uplink resource by TDD mobile abiding by a region based time slot(TS) allocation which in turn mitigates CTS interference considerably. It is demonstrated that combined with under-used resource utilization scheme based on mobile's location, the proposed technique can reduce CTS interference considerably and support the asymmetric traffic in TDD system.

  • 본 연구에서는 이종 무선융합망에서 실시간 서비스 품질의 지속성을 보장하면서도 자원의 이용도를 극대화하기 위한 자원운영 방안인 PRA(Priority Resource Allocation)를 제안한다. PRA에서는 예약된 자원을 사용하여 실시간 서비스 데이터를 우선적으로 전송하되 그 전송률이 감소하면 비실시간 서비스가 여분의 대역폭을 일시적으로 이용한다. 실시간 세션의 가변 전송률에 근거한 통계적 다중화 기법을 통하여 PRA 방식이 실시간 서비스의 품질을 만족시키면서도 동시에 접속 가능한 가입자 수를 최대화할 수 있음을 시뮬레이션에 의해 확인한다.

Multimedia Service Discrimination Based on Fair Resource Allocation Using Bargaining Solutions

  • We deal with a resource allocation problem for multimedia service discrimination in wireless networks. We assume that a service provider allocates network resources to users who can choose and access one of the discriminated services. To express the rational service selection of users, the utility function of users is devised to reflect both service quality and cost. Regarding the utility function of a service provider, total profit and efficiency of resource usage have been considered. The proposed service discrimination framework is composed of two game models. An outer model is a repeated Stackelberg game between a service provider and a user group, while an inner model is a service selection game among users, which is solved by adopting the Kalai-Smorodinsky bargaining solution. Through simulation experiments, we compare the proposed framework with existing resource allocation methods according to user cost sensitivity. The proposed framework performed better than existing frameworks in terms of total profit and fairness.

  • 본 논문에서는 멀티미디어 Ad Hoc 무선 LAM(AWLAN)을 위한 새로운 자원 관리 방안으로 분산채널 할당 프로토롤(Distributed Channel Allocation Protocol, DCAP)을 제안한다 이 방안은 QoS (Quality-of-Service)를 보장하는 분산적 자원 관리를 OFDM-CDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing-Code Division Multiple Access) 채널 구조 위에 구현한 것이다. MPEG 트래픽에 대한 성능평가 결과 DCAP는 광대역 무선 접근(Broadband Wireless Access, BWA) 형 물리구조 기반에서의 멀티미디어 서비스를 지원하는 AWLAN을 위한 좋은 자원 관리 방안임이 판명되었다.

Resource Allocation Based on the Type of Handovers in Overlaid Macro-Femto Networks

  • In this paper we propose the resource allocation scheme for the overlaid macro-femtocell networks, which considers the type of handovers such as the inter-macrocell, macrocell-to-femtocell, femtocell-to-macrocell, or inter-femtocell in order to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) and expand the accommodation capacity. Our proposed scheme takes into account the movement of mobile terminals, the QoS degradation, or the load control which trigger handovers in the overlaid networks, before it allocates resources dynamically. Moreover it considers QoS requirements of realtime or non-realtime mobile multimedia services such as video communication, Video on Demand (VoD) and dataa services. Simulation results show that our scheme provides better performances than the conventional one with respect to the outage probability, data transmission throughput and handover failure rate.
