Batch Resizing Policies and Techniques for Fine-Grain Grid Tasks: The Nuts and Bolts

  • The overhead of processing fine-grain tasks on a grid induces the need for batch processing or task group deployment in order to minimise overall application turnaround time. When deciding the granularity of a batch, the processing requirements of each task should be considered as well as the utilisation constraints of the interconnecting network and the designated resources. However, the dynamic nature of a grid requires the batch size to be adaptable to the latest grid status. In this paper, we describe the policies and the specific techniques involved in the batch resizing process. We explain the nuts and bolts of these techniques in order to maximise the resulting benefits of batch processing. We conduct experiments to determine the nature of the policies and techniques in response to a real grid environment. The techniques are further investigated to highlight the important parameters for obtaining the appropriate task granularity for a grid resource.

  • In the field of artistic creation, the iterative development of AI-generated video software has pushed the boundaries of multimedia content creation and provided powerful creative tools for non-professionals. This paper extensively examines two leading AI-generated video software, PIKA Labs and RUNWAY, discussing their functions, performance differences, and application scopes in the video generation domain. Through detailed operational examples, a comparative analysis of their functionalities, as well as the advantages and limitations of each in generating video content, is presented. By comparison, it can be found that PIKA Labs and RUNWAY have excellent performance in stability and creativity. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to comprehensively elucidate the operating mechanisms of these two AI software, in order to intuitively demonstrate the advantages of each software. Simultaneously, this study provides valuable references for professionals and creators in the video production field, assisting them in selecting the most suitable tools for different scenarios, thereby advancing the application and development of AI-generated video software in multimedia content creation.

  • This paper presents a mobile color-compensating application using a RGB color compensation algorithm. The proposed application enables color vision deficiencies to differentiate images which cannot be distinguished by them. The suggested mobile application has two functions: converting images taken by camera and converting contents in the device screen. The proposed application is computationally inexpensive, since it does not require color space transformation. Simulation results show that the proposed application enables color vision deficiencies to receive information expressed by colors such as subway line maps.

  • In this paper, we have designed and implemented Web-based realtime distant education system by using multimedia CAI and Java technology. The proposed system can provide not only Web-based courseware but also text-based text lecture and distant OHP in real time. The Courseware provides computer basic education and has been developed by using Authorware. The Client/server program of Text lecture and distant OHP for a realtime distant education has been developed by using Java applet and application. Java servlet has been used to construct CGI programs.

  • In this monograph, we developed a Remote Courseware Management System so we can more easily cultivate a courseware with various multimedia applications through an easy interface with the internt. In the view of Developer of view, we could develop RCMS rapidly using the application of ASP.NET and have tried to adapt ourself to the future environment using it. ASP.NET provides much richer event programming model than ASP and event processor which are executed on Server. In the view of User, they can used the Internet service with equipment that they want at any place and any time. To control any kinds of courseware for Administrator and Users, we offered a variety of Multimedia applications and an easy interface and built a new style of web courseware.

  • Recently, to draw the web users' attention and stay in the website for a long time to transmit information efficiently, the website designing is focused on providing emotional experience. Emotional experience is possible through the use of interactive storytelling and multimedia. Users immersion, pleasurable experience and synesthesia satisfaction is connected to the emotional experience due to the interaction operation and multimedia feedback. In this study, application of the parallax scrolling technique's possibility has been studied to induce the emotional experience of the web users that appeared in the technical development of the web. Realizing characteristics of the elements that effect emotional experience through web cases are studied and the possibility of effective emotional experience is proposed as using parallax scrolling technique on web.

  • In this paper, we describe a design method to manage heterogeneous objects for effective presentation of multimedia application. In order to utilize the individual feature of a heterogeneous object, we define a specialized class for each media object, and it also gives a method to process each specialized class combined with various figures that can support user-definition during the authoring phase for a multimedia presentation. The proposed data structures and processing methods are designed to easily extend the functions for handling a data objects by adding another specialized class definitions to existing object classes.

Development and Application of a Nutrition Education Game for Preschoolers

  • This study was conducted to develop and apply a computer-based multimedia nutrition education program for preschoolers based on the Dick and Carey model of instructional design. The Dick and Carey model included 4 phases: analysis, design, development, and evaluation. The program's instructional goals, objectives, assessment instruments, content, examples, and practice questions with feedback were written in the design phase. To be familiar with the 5 food groups, 'Nutrition exploration' were programmed using Hyperstudio. 'Nutrition exploration' was designed as a five-session, interactive multimedia game, with each session taking about 5 minutes to complete. Nineteen preschoolers, aged 6, volunteered to participate formative evaluation. The effectiveness of the program was examined using a pre-post test design. Participants were recruited by personal contact at the individual preschool education center. The application was carried out during 4 weeks. The results showed that intervention participants significantly increased knowledge between pre-test and post-test. The results support using IMM (interactive multimedia) to disseminate nutrition education to the target population. This research provides the basis for continuing development of computer-based nutrition education materials.

  • Most common web or application system architectures have central network. As a result, central network can be supervised and controlled in all situation. And It has the advantage of easy to manage and fast to work. However, central network have a disadvantage of weak to security and unclear. In particular, many institutions used by web system be has many problems by central network. In this paper, we proposed blokchain technology based on ethereum to resolve of problem and trading structure that arise in cental network. We propose a decentralized application based on points including cryptocurrency functions and smart contract to the advantages of blockchain with a decentralized structure. The results of the performance experiment are as follows; It has shown the advantages of reliable use and security in a variety of environments(Windows, Ubuntu, Mac).

Face Recognition System for Multimedia Application (멀티미디어 응용을 위한 얼굴 인식시스템)

  • This paper is the realization of the face recognition system for multimedia application. This system is focused on the design concerning the improvement of recognition rate and the reduction of processing time for face recognition. The non-modificated application of typical RGB color system enables the reduction of time required for color system transform. The neural network and the application of algorithm using face characteristic improves the recognition rate. After mosaicking an image, a face-color block has been selected through the color analysis of mosaic block. The characteristic of the face removes the mis-checked face-color candidate block. Finally, from the face color block, four special values are obtained. These values are processed to the neural network using the back propagation algorithm. The output values are the touchstone to decide the genuineness of face field. The realized system showed 90% of face recognition rate with less than 0.1 second of processing time. This result can be understood as sufficient processing time and recognition rate to find out the face block for multimedia application in dynamic image.
