  • We fabricated distributed feedback InGaAsP/InP laser diodes for optical fiber communication module and characterized the lasing properties in continuous wave operation. The active layer of 7-period InGaAsP(1.127 eV)/InGaAsP(0.954 eV) multi-quantum well structure was grown by the metal-organic chemical vapor deposition. The grating for waveguide was also fabricated by the implementation of the Mach-Zehender holographic method of two laser beams interference of He- Cd laser and the fabricated laser diode has the dimension of the laser length of $400{\mu}m$ and the ridge width of $1.2{\mu}m$. The laser diode shows the threshold current of 3.59 mA, the threshold voltage of 1.059 V. For the room-temperature operation with the current of 13.54 mA and the voltage of 1.12 V, the peak wavelength is about 1309.70 nm and optical power is 13.254 mW.

  • ZnTe semiconductor is very attractive materials for optoelectronic devices in the visible green spectral region because of it has direct bandgap of 2.26 eV. The prototypes of ZnTe light emitting diodes (LEDs) have been reported [1], showing that their green emission peak closely matches the most sensitive region of the human eye. Another application to photovoltaics proved that ZnTe is useful for the production of high-efficiency multi-junction solar cells [2,3]. By using the pulse laser deposition system, ZnTe thin films were deposited on ZnO thin layer, which is grown on (0001) Al2O3substrates. To produce the plasma plume from an ablated ZnO and ZnTe target, a pulsed (10 Hz) YGA:Nd laser with energy density of 95 mJ/$cm^2$ and wavelength of 266 nm by a nonlinear fourth harmonic generator was used. The laser spot focused on the surface of the ZnO and ZnTe target by using an optical lens was approximately 1 mm2. The base pressure of the chamber was kept at a pressure around $10^{-6}$ Torr by using a turbo molecular pump. The oxygen gas flow was controlled around 3 sccm by using a mass flow controller system. During the ZnTe deposition, the substrate temperature was $400^{\circ}C$ and the ambient gas pressure was $10^{-2}$ Torr. The structural properties of the samples were analyzed by XRD measurement. The optical properties were investigated by using the photoluminescence spectra obtained with a 325 nm wavelength He-Cd laser. The film surface and carrier concentration were analyzed by an atomic force microscope and Hall measurement system.

  • Resonant multi photon ionization (RMPD of Hg atoms is studied by focusing a high-power laser into the ionization cell. The intermediate resonant state is taken as $6d^1D_2$ with the 4-photon resonance wavelength of 560.7 nm. The ionization signal is measured as Hg vapor pressure (0.1-3.0 Torr), laser intensity $(10-120GW/\textrm{cm}^2)$, and laser wavelength (559-569 nm) vary. AC Stark shift and line broadening of the resonant state $(6d^1D_2)$ are observed and the shift factor is measured to be $-0.6(cm^{-1}/GW/\textrm{cm}^2$. It is also observed that the ionization signal increases as the Hg vapor pressure increases up to a certain value of pressure, however, if the pressure further increases, the signal decreases. The order of non-linearity, which discribes the laser intensity dependence of ionization rate, is measured to be 3 at the resonance, and compared with the theoretical results.esults.

  • In this paper, we implemented the object scanning with nxtOSEK which is an open source platform. nxtOSEK consists of device driver of leJOS NXJ C/Assembly source code, TOPPERS/ATK(Automotive real time Kernel) and TOPPERS/JSP Real-Time Operating System source code that includes ARM7 specific porting part, and glue code make them work together. nxtOSEK can provide ANSI C by using GCC tool chain and C API and apply for real-time multi tasking features. We experimented the 3D scanning with ultra sonic and laser sensor which are made directly by laser module diode and experimented the measurement of scanning the object by knowing x, y, and z coordinates for every points that it scans. In this paper, the laser module is the dimension of $6{\times}10[mm]$ requiring 5volts/5[mW], and used the laser light of wavelength in the 650[nm] range. For detecting the object, we used the beacon detection algorithm and as the laser light swept the objects, the photodiode monitored the ambient light at interval of 10[ms] which is called a real time. We communicated the 3D scanning platform via bluetooth protocol with host platform and the results are displayed via DPlot graphic tool. And therefore we enhanced the functionality of the 3D scanner for identifying the image scanning with laser sensor modules compared to ultra sonic sensor.

  • DSSCs (dye-sensitized solar cells) based on $TiO_2/SiO_2$ multi layer AR (anti-reflection) coating on the outer glass FTO (fluorine-doped tin oxide) substrate are investigated. We have coated an AR layer on the surface of a DSSCs device by using an IAD (ion beam-assisted deposition) system and investigated the effects of the AR layer by measuring photovoltaic performance. Compared to the pure FTO substrate, the multi layer AR coating increased the total transmittance from 67.4 to 72.9% at 530 nm of wavelength. The main enhancement of solar conversion efficiency is attributed to the reduction of light reflection at the FTO substrate surface. This leads to the increase of Jsc and the efficiency improvement of DSSCs.

  • Laser beam hardening of 12%-Cr steel has been evaluated by using a continuous wave 3kW co$_{2}$ laser with a hardening mirror set. Experiment was performed on the hardening condition with a laser power of 2.85kW and travel speed of 1.0 and 1.5m/min. Multi passes have been also tried to find the hardening characteristics of partly overlapped zone. The black paint to use at high temperature was adopted to increase the absorptivity of laser beam energy with the wavelength of 10.6.mu.m at the surface of base metal. The microstructure of the hardened layers was observed by using a light microscopy, SEM and TEM. A fine Lamellar martensite formed in the hardened zones exhibits very high Vickers microhardness of 600Hv, whereas the tempered martensite distributes in the base metal with Vickers microhardness of 240Hv.It has been found that laser hardening with multi passes showed no significant drop of the hardness between adjacent passes.

  • We investigated the diffraction grating efficiency by the DPSS laser beam wavelength to improve the diffraction efficiency on AsGeSeS & Ag/ AsGeSeS thin film. Diffraction efficiency was obtained from DPSS(532nm)(P:P)polarized laser beam on AsGeSeS, Ag/ AsGeSeS and AsGeSeS/Ag/AsGeSeS thin films. As a result, for the laser beam intensity, 0.24 mW, single AsGeSeS thin film shows the highest value of 0.161% diffraction efficiency at 300 s and for 2.4 mW, it was recorded with the fastest speed of 50 s, which the diffraction grating forming speed is faster than that of 0.24 mW beam. Ag/ AsGeSeS and AsGeSeS/ Ag/ AsGeSeS multi-layered thin film also show the faster grating forming speed at 2.4 mW and higher value of diffraction efficiency at 0.24 mW.

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are structures of carbon atoms bonded together in hexagonal honeycomb shapes, with multi-walled CNTs having a very high thermal conductivity of $3000W/m{\cdot}K$ and single-walled CNTs having a conductivity of $6000W/m{\cdot}K$. In this work, the transmittance and the thermal diffusivity of a multi-walled carbon nanotube dispersion with a concentration of 1.5 M were measured using a single beam method, a dual beam method, and the thermal lens effect. The nonlinear optical coefficients were obtained by using the z-scan method, which moved the sample in the direction of propagation of the single laser beam, propagation and the thermal diffusivity was measured using a double laser beam. As a pump beam, a diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) laser with a wavelength of 532 nm and an intensity of 100 mW was used. As the probe beam, a He-Ne laser having a wavelength of 633 nm and an intensity of 5 mW was used. The experimental result shows that when the concentrations of the sample were 9.99, 11.10, 16.65, and 19.98 mM, the nonlinear absorption coefficients were 0.046, 0.051, 0.136 and 0.169 m/W, respectively. Also, the nonlinear refractive indices were 0.20, 0.51, 1.25 and $1.32{\times}10^{-11}m^2/W$, respectively, and the average thermal diffusivity was $1.33{\times}10^{-6}m^2/s$.

  • We have demonstrated the selection and the amplification of the components of an optical frequency comb using femto-second laser injection-locking technique. We used a mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser as a master laser and a single-mode diode laser as a slave laser. After passing through the interference filter with the center wavelength 794.7 nm and the transmittance bandwidth 1.5 nm, the optical frequency comb by mode-locked femto-second laser was injected into the slave laser. The injection-locked slave laser had $3{\sim}4$ multi-mode with the mode spacing 100.5 MHz, whichcorrespond to the repetition rate of a mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser. The power of the modes selected by femto-second laser injection-locking technique was amplified to several thousands times
