탄소나노튜브와 스테인레스강 단섬유를 함유한 폴리프로필렌 복합체의 전기저항 및 기계적 특성 (Electrical Resistivity and Mechanical Properties of Polypropylene Composites Containing Carbon Nanotubes and Stainless Steel Short Fibers)

  • 본 연구에서는 이축 스크류식 압출기를 이용하여 폴리프로필렌(PP)에 도전성 필러인 다중벽 탄소나노튜브 (MWNT)와 스테인레스강 단섬유(SSF)를 첨가하여 복합체를 제조하였으며, 이에 대한 표면저항 및 기계적 특성을 조사하였다. 표면저항을 측정한 결과 PP/MWNT에 소량의 SSF를 첨가하였을 때 더 낮은 MWNT 함량에서 percolation threshold가 나타났다. 그리고 제조된 복합체에 대한 인장시험 결과 순수 PP와 비교해서 파괴점 신장률은 감소하였으나 탄성률과 강도는 증가하였다. 또한 동역학분석을 통하여 MWNT와 SSF 복합체의 저장탄성률과 tan ${\delta}$에 미치는 영향을 조사하였으며, SEM을 이용하여 필러들의 모폴로지 및 복합체의 파단면을 관찰하였다.

  • This paper describes the fabrication method for atomic force microscopy(AFM) tip with multi-walled carbon nanotube(MWNT). For making a carbon nanotube (CNT) modified tips, AC electric field which cause the dielectrophoresis was used for alignment and deposition of CNTs in this research. By dropping the MWNT solution and applying an electric field between an AFM tip and an electrode, MWNTs which were dispersed into a diluted solution were directly assembled onto the apex of the AFM tips due to the attraction by the dielectrophoretic force. In this case, we investigate the effect of the angle between a tip axis and an electrode. Experimental setup were presented, and then CNT attached AFM tips are successfully shown in this paper.

원자이동 라디칼중합 반응에 의하여 제조된 아크릴계 고분자가 그래프트된 MWNT의 특성평가 (Characterization of Acrylic Polymer-Grafted MWNTs Prepared by Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization)

  • 원자이동 라디칼중합(atom transfer radical polymerization: ATRP) 반응을 이용하여 poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA)와 poly((2-dimethyl amino)ethyl methacrylate)(PDMAEMA) 등의 아크릴계 고분자가 각각 multi-walled carbon nanotube(MWNT) 표면에 그래프팅된 MWNT/PMMA 및 MWNT/PDMAEMA 나노복합체를 제조하였다. FTIR과 XRD 분석을 통하여 나노복합체에 존재하는 아크릴계 고분자의 특성피크를 확인하였으며 열중량분석법(TGA) 가열감량 곡선 분석을 통하여 ATRP 반응의 라디칼 리빙성이 유지됨을 확인하였다. 투과전자현미경(TEM)분석을 통하여 아크릴계 고분자가 MWNT에 그래프팅된 나노복합체의 형태(morphology)를 확인하였으며 Raman 분광분석을 수행함으로써 MWNT/PMMA 및 MWNT/PDMAEMA 나노복합체에서 고분자와 MWNT 사이에 공유결합이 형성되어 나타나는 스펙트럼 상의 D 밴드 및 G 밴드의 위치 및 세기 변화를 확인하였다.

  • Li/S 이차전지의 유황양극의 전기전도도를 향상시키고 유황이 충방전시 전해질내로 용출되는 것을 방지하기 위하여 multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs)를 thermal CVD 방법으로 제조하여 유황양극에 첨가하였다. 실험결과 첫 사이클에서 Li/S 이차전지의 방전용량은 485mAh/g-sulfur이었고, MWNT 첨가 이후에 유황양극의 cycle life와 rate-capability가 향상되는 것을 관찰할 수 있었다. 그러므로 MWNT는 polysulfide를 유황양극에 흡착시키는 동시에 good electric conductor로서 작용한다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • We report the suspension of individual multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) from the bottom substrate using deep trench electrodes that were fabricated using optical lithography. During drying of the solution in dielectrophoretic assembly, the capillary force pulls the MWNT toward the bottom substrate, and it then remains as a deformed structure adhering to the bottom substrate after the solution has dried out. Small-diameter MWNTs cannot be suspended using thin electrodes with large gaps, but large-diameter MWNTs can be suspended using thicker electrodes. We present the statistical experimental results for successful suspension, as well as the feasible conditions for a MWNT suspension based on a theoretical approach.

Heterocoagulation 법으로 제조된 이차전지용 MWNT/SnO2 나노복합음극재의 전기화학적 특성 (Preparation and Characteristics of MWNT/SnO2 Nanocomposites Anode by Colloidal Heterocoagulation for Li-ion Battery)

  • Through the electrostatic interaction between the poly-diallydimethylammonium chloride (PDDA) modified Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) and $SnO_2$ suspension in 1mM $NaNo_3$ solution, MWNT-$SnO_2$ nanocomposites (MSC) for anode electrodes of a Li-ion battery were successfully fabricated by colloidal heterocoagulation method. TEM observation showed that most of the $SnO_2$ nanoparticles were uniformly deposited on the outside surface of the MWNT. Galvanostatic charge/discharge cycling tests showed that MSC anodes exhibited higher specific capacities than bare MWNT and better cyclability than unsupported nano-$SnO_2$ anodes. Also, after 20 cycles, the MSC anode fabricated by heterocoagulation method showed more stable cycle properties than the simply mixed MSC anode. These improved electrochemical properties are attributed to the MWNT, which adsorbs the mechanical stress induced from volume change and increasing electrical conductivity of the MSC anode, and suppresses the aggregation between the $SnO_2$ nanoparticles.

Effect of Carbon Nanotube Pre-treatment on Dispersion and Electrical Properties of Melt Mixed Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes / Poly(methyl methacrylate) Composites

  • Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) pre-treated by concentrated mixed acid or oxidized at high temperature were melt mixed with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) using a twin screw extruder. The morphologies and electrical properties of the MWNT/PMMA composites were investigated. The thermally treated MWNTs (t-MWNTs) were well dispersed, whereas the acid treated MWNTs (a-MWNTs) were highly entangled, forming large-sized clusters. The resulting electrical properties of the composites were analyzed in terms of the carbon nanotube (CNT) dispersion. The experimental percolation threshold was estimated to be $3 wt\%$ of t-MWNTs, but no percolation occurred at similar concentrations in the a-MWNT composites, due to the poor dispersion in the matrix.

Synthesis and Electrochemical Performance of Polypyrrole-Coated Iron Oxide/Carbon Nanotube Composites

  • In this work, iron oxide ($Fe_3O_4$) nanoparticles were deposited on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) by a simple chemical coprecipitation method and $Fe_3O_4$-decorated MWNTs (Fe-MWNTs)/polypyrrole (PPy) nanocomposites (Fe-MWNTs/PPy) were prepared by oxidation polymerization. The effect of the PPy on the electrochemical properties of the Fe-MWNTs was investigated. The structures characteristics and surface properties of MWNTs, Fe-MWNTs, and Fe-MWNTs/PPy were characterized by X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, respectively. The electrochemical performances of MWNTs, Fe-MWNTs, and Fe-MWNTs/PPy were determined by cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge/discharge characteristics in a 1.0 M sodium sulfite electrolyte. The results showed that the Fe-MWNTs/PPy electrode had typical pseudo-capacitive behavior and a specific capacitance significantly greater than that of the Fe-MWNT electrode, indicating an enhanced electrochemical performance of the Fe-MWNTs/PPy due to their high electrical properties.

다중벽 탄소나노튜브가 첨가된 평직 유리섬유/에폭시 복합재료의 미세구조 및 전자기적 특성 (Microstructure and Electromagnetic Characteristics of MWNT-filled Plain-Weave Glass/Epoxy Composites)

  • 본 논문에서는 다중벽 탄소나노튜브가 첨가된 평직 유리섬유/에폭시 복합재료를 제작하여 전자기적 특성을 고찰하였다. 제작된 복합재료의 미세구조를 관찰하여 재료 내에 MWNT가 유리섬유 얀들의 계면과 모재과잉영역에 주로 분포되어 있음을 관찰하였다. 유전율은 X-band (8.2-12.4 GHz) 주파수 영역에서 측정되었으며, MWNT의 무게비가 증가할수록 증가하며 주파수에 대해서는 거의 일정하게 유지됨을 알 수 있었다 측정된 유전율을 이용하여 두께에 따른 탄소나노튜브가 첨가된 복합재료로 이루어진 전자파 흡수 구조의 반사손실 특성을 살펴보았으며, 제작된 복합재료를 이용하여 10dB 흡수 대역이 X-band전역이며 두께는 3.3mm인 흡수체를 구현할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

The Effect of Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes on the Molecular Orientation of Poly(vinyl alcohol) in Drawn Composite Films

  • Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) composite films were prepared by casting a DMSO solution of PVA and MWNTs, whereby the MWNTs were dispersed by sonication. A significant improvement in the mechanical properties of the PVA drawn films was achieved by the addition of a small amount of MWNTs. The initial modulus and the tensile strength of the PVA drawn film increased by 30 % and 45 %, respectively, with the addition of 1 wt% MWNTs, which are close to those calculated from the rule of mixtures, and were strongly dependent upon the orientation of the PVA matrix. The mechanical properties, however, were not improved with a further increase in the MWNT content. The orientation of MWNTs in the composite was not well developed compared to that of the PVA matrix. This result suggests that the improvement of the molecular orientation of the PVA matrix plays a major role in the increase of the mechanical propeties of the drawn PVA/MWNT composite films.
