  • This paper deals with the optimum design of thick-walled multi-layered composite tubes by minimizing the process-induced residual stresses under some constraints of structural stiffnesses. An analytic model based on quasi-static thermoelasticity is adopted for the calculation of the residual stresses in the multi-layered composite tubes. The numerical results of optimization show that, in the case of cross-ply CFRP tubes, the residual stresses can be reduced to a certain level by controlling ply thicknesses. However, the optimized tubes may be susceptible to cracking because the transverse residual stress is still large in a strength-based sense. To further suppress the residual stresses, the effects of stacking sequence, wall thickness and axial pretension on the optimum solutions are examined.

  • In the resonant converters which can provide high efficiency and high power density, the resonant voltage stress is about $4\~5$ times the input voltage. It needs the power switch with high ratings. This is a reason why the conduction loss is increased. In this paper, it proposes the alternately zero voltage switched forward, flyback multi resonant converter topology for reducing the voltage stress using alternately zero voltage switching technique. And the proposed AT forward MRC Is experimentally considered about the loop gain with HP4194A network analyzer

  • In this paper, the finite element analysis model of the mult-axial wheel durability test configuration is created using SAMCEF. Mooney-Rivlin 2nd model is applied to the tire model, and the variation of the air pressure inside the tire is considered. Vertical load, lateral load and camber angle are applied to the simulation model. The tire rotates because of the friction contact with a drum, and reaches its maximum speed of 60 km/h. The dynamics stress results of the simulation and experiment are compared, and the reliability of the simulation model is verified.

  • In this paper, analysis of the vibration characteristic for the mine detectable test platform is described. The test platform system is the multi-sensor mine detectable vehicle. This multi-sensor mine detectable unit is more efficient detection performance than other conventional methods. The test platform system has five subsystems, the UWB(ultra wide band) sensor scanner, the MD(metal detector) sensor scanner, the ND(neutron detector) sensor scanner, and the detectable vehicle. We perform the vibration tests for the test platform and analyze the vibration characteristic, such as the max displacement, the max deformation and the max Von-Misses stress.

  • The present study aims at characterizing and modeling the anisotropic creep behavior of coated textile membrane, a class of flexible textile composites that are used for moderate span enclosures (roofs and air-halls). The objective is to develop a creep model for predicting the lifetime of coated textile membrane. Uniaxial creep tests were conducted on three off-axis coupon specimens to obtain the directional creep compliance. A potential with three parameters is shown to be adequate for modeling the anisotropic creep behavior of coated textile membrane. Furthermore, a possibility of predicting the creep deformation of coated textile membrane in a multi-axial stress state is discussed using the three-parameter potential.

  • A Harmony Search (HS) and Genetic Algorithms (GA), two powerful metaheuristic search techniques, are used for minimum weight designs of different truss structures by selecting suitable profile sections from a specified list taken from American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). A computer program is coded in MATLAB interacting with SAP2000-OAPI to obtain solution of design problems. The stress constraints according to AISC-ASD (Allowable Stress Design) and displacement constraints are considered for optimum designs. Three different truss structures such as bridge, dome and tower structures taken from literature are designed and the results are compared with the ones available in literature. The results obtained from the solutions for truss structures show that optimum designs by these techniques are very similar to the literature results and HS method usually provides more economical solutions in multi-element truss problems.

  • Epoxy materials are used as insulation material for electric power cables. In the case of a flow of excess current due to the temperature difference which occurs between the heat of the conductor and the atmosphere, heat degrades connection point of the cables. Also, the mechanical stress, which occurs due to the thermal expansion coefficient of cable connection electrode system and epoxy insulation materials along with the gap between thermal conduction based on the extra high voltage of transmitted voltage, increases possibility of cracks to occur. The relationship between mechanical stress and electrical breakdown mechanism is verified for the epoxy materials such as high toughness epoxy materials, which comes to be used contemporarily, and for the breakdown mechanism of epoxy materials on the multi-stresses (mechanical and electrical) due to the variation of the temperature.

  • A palladium can adsorb hydrogen and detect leaking hydrogen through changes in color and electrical resistance. This study is to evaluate the structural behavior of carbon fiber adding palladium composite materials used in the hydrogen storage vessel. A multi-scale analysis technique was used to analyze accurately the behavior of each material in relation to the microscopic composition. The multi-scale analysis is more proper and precise for composite materials because of considering the individual microscopic structure and properties of each material for composite materials. Also the crack evaluation was performed by XFEM analysis to confirm the reinforcement performance of aluminum as a liner of the hydrogen vessel. The results show that the addition of the palladium material increased the macroscopic stress, but microscopically the carbon fiber stress was reduced. It means the performance improvement of the palladium added carbon fiber/Al composite.

  • Isogeometric concept is introduced to carry out free vibration analysis of plane structures. The geometry of structures is represented by using non-uniform rational B-spline surface (NURBS) and its basis function is consistently used in the formulation of plane stress element. In addition, multi-patch strategy is introduced to deal with the openings in building. The performance of the present isogeometric plane stress element is investigated by using five numerical examples. From numerical results, it is found to be that the isogeometric concept can successfully identify reliable natural frequencies and associated mode shapes of plane structures with/without openings in efficient way.
