  • In this paper, we propose a novel protocol called Cooperative Multi-hop transmission using Incremental Relaying (CMIR). We evaluate the performance of the CMIR protocol by deriving expressions for the average end-to-end outage probability and the average number of transmissions. Monte Carlo simulations are presented to verify the accuracy of the theoretical analyses.

Also, transmission and receiving performance of medical image using TH UWB-IR system is evaluated on indoor multi-path fading environment. On the results, the proposed scheme can solve the problem of interference from the medical equipment in same frequency band, and minimize the loss due to the indoor multi-path fading environment. Therefore, the transmission with low power usage is possible.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel protocol called a Multi-hop Diversity Transmission protocol in which the retransmission is realized by a relay that is Nearest to a current Source (MDTNS). We derive the mathematical expressions of the packet error rate (PER) and the average number of transmissions over Nakagami-m fading channels, and verify them by Monte Carlo simulations. The simulation results show that the MDTNS protocol improves the performance of the network in terms of PER when compared to the Multi-hop Diversity Transmission protocol in which the retransmission is done by a relay that is Nearest to Destination (MDTND) and to the conventional multi-hop transmission (CMT) protocol.

  • In this paper we have investigated a novel approach applying low-density parity-check coding to a COFDM-CDMA system, which operates in a multi-path fading mobile channel. Developed as a linear-block channel coder, the LDPC code is known for a superior signal reception capability in AWGN and/or flat fading channels with respect to increased encoding rates, however, its performance degrades when the communication channel becomes multi-path fading. For a typical multi-path fading mobile channel with a SNR of 16㏈ or lower. in order to obtain a BER lower than 1 out of 10000, the LDPC code with encoding rates below 1:3 requires not only the inherent parity check information but also the piloting information for refreshing front-end equalizer taps of COFDM-CDMA, periodically. For instance, while the 1:3-rate LDPC coded transmission symbol is consisted of data bits and parity-check bits in 1 to 3 proportion, on the other hand, in the proposed method the same rate LDPC transmission symbol contains data bits, parity check bits, and pilot bits in 1 to 2 to 1 proportion, respectively. The included pilot bits are effective not only for channel estimation and channel equalization but for symbol decoding by assisting the parity-check bits, hence, improving SNR vs BER performance over the conventional 1:3-rate LDPC code. The proposed system performance has been verified using computer simulations in multi-path, Rayleigh fading channels, and the results show us that the proposed method out-performs the general LDPC channel coding methods in terms of SNR vs BER measurements.

  • In order to transmit various types of multimedia data (i.e. voice, video, and data) over a wireless channel, the coding and modulation scheme needs to be flexible and capable of providing a variable quality of service, data rates, and latency. In this paper, we study a mobile multimedia COMA network combined with the concatenated Reed-Solomon/Rate Compatible Punctured Convolution code (RS/RCPC). Also, this paper propose the combination of concatenated RS/RCPC coder and COMA RAKE receiver for multimedia COMA traffic which can be sent over wireless channels. From the results, using a frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel model, it is shown that concatenated RS/RCPC coder at the wireless physical layer can be effective in providing reliable wireless multimedia CDMA network. And the proposed scheme that combine concatenated RS/RCPC coder and CDMA RAKE receiver provides a significant gain in the BER performance over multi-user interference and multipath frequency selective fading channels.

  • In this paper, error performance of DS/CDMA GMSK system has been analyzed in a radio channel which is characterized by multi-user interference(MUI) and Nakagami fading. The DS/CDMA GMSK system adopts Maximum Ratio Combining(MRC) diversity and co-channel interference (CCI) to enhance system performance. Using the derived error probability equation, the error performance of DS/CDMA GMSK system has been evaluated and shown in figures to discuss as a function of PN code length(N), number of multi-user(K), number of diversity branch(L), and bit energy per noise power ratio ($E_b/N_0$), fading index(m). The results show that there is a substantial enhancement in performance by employing an MRC diversity or a CCI canceller. Additional improvement can be obtained when the MRC diversity and the CCI canceller are adopted in cascade form. Consequently, we expected that proposed system structure is reliable to the voice communication system in Nakagami fading, multi-user interferences and multipath channel.

  • Generally, multi-path is viewed as an undesirable feature of wireless communications. Therefore, diversity reception and adaptive array schemes are proposed to mitigate its effects. Recently, to increase the spectrum efficiency and the link reliability, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) scheme is devised to exploit multi-path in a scattering wireless channel. In this paper, we have evaluated the channel capacity of MIMO Multi-Carrier CDMA system in path correlation fading channel. And, the channel capacity of MIMO system is compared with single-input single-output (SISO) system. From the results, the MIMO multi-carrier CDMA system with path correlation yields better performance with respect to channel capacity than a SISO system.

  • In the conventional multi-user superposition transmission, the power allocation coefficients of data symbols and the received signal processing of users are determined by the condition of instantaneous channel powers. However, the use of instantaneous channel powers can increase the system complexity. Hence, we consider fixed multi-user superposition transmission using average channel powers. The fixed multi-user superposition transmission can reduce the system complexity because it uses the condition of average channel powers that slowly change over time in order to decide the power allocation coefficients and the received signal processing. In this paper, we analyze the average symbol error rate for the fixed multi-user superposition transmission. In particular, an expression for the average symbol error rate of M-ary Quadrature Amplitude Modulation is derived assuming Rayleigh fading channels. In addition, through the numerical results, we show that the conventional and fixed multi-user superposition transmissions achieve the similar average symbol error rate performances at the user in the severe channel condition.

  • Since the publication of Alamouti's famous space-time block code, various quasi-orthogonal space-time block codes (QSTBC) for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) fading channels for more than two transmit antennas have been proposed. It has been shown that these codes cannot achieve full diversity at full rate. In this paper, we present a simple feedback scheme for rich scattering (flat Rayleigh fading) MIMO channels that improves the coding gain and diversity of a QSTBC for 2$^n$ (n=3, 4, ${\cdots}$) transmit antennas. The relevant channel state information is sent back from the receiver to the transmitter quantized to one or two bits per code block. In this way, signal transmission with an improved coding gain and diversity near to the maximum diversity order is achieved. Such high diversity can be exploited with either a maximum-likelihood receiver or low-complexity zero-forcing receiver.

  • The performance of a multi-carrier CDMA system is analyzed considering frequency selective multipath fading and Near/Far effects. The number of multicarrier, multiuser, and arms of RAKE receiver, and the decay ratio of frequency selective multipath fading are used as a parameter for the performance analysis. More over, the distribution and the strength of multiuser interference are also considered. To evaluate the Near/Far effects in a multi-carrier CDMA system, three distribution models are assumed. In the first model, interference to carrier Ratio, I/C, ranges from -4 dB to 4dB, and at each 2 dB interval, 20 % of multiuser is assumed to be uniformly distributed. In the second one, I/C ranges from -2 dB to 2 dB, and 33.3% of multiuser is assumed to be equally dispersed at each 2dB interval. The third model is 0 dB of I/C, that is, with perfect power control, multiuser are assumed to be evenly located. In this paper, multi-carrier CDMA system adoption RAKE receiver is proposed to mitigate the frequency selective multipath fading. From the results, the third model(i.e. perfect power control) shows the best performance, and the narrower range of I/C causes the less effects to the desired signal, which reads to the better performance.
