다채널 광섬유 레이저 및 다중 빔 정렬 기술 개발 (Development of Multi-channel Fiber Laser and Beam Alignment Method)

  • 타일형 결맞음 빔결합 연구를 위하여 시드 공유형 다채널 광섬유 레이저 및 출력단, 다중 빔 정렬 기술을 개발하였다. 광섬유 레이저는 7개의 채널을 갖고, 각각의 채널당 출력 10 W 이상으로 시드, 전치 증폭기, 광 분배기, 주 증폭기로 구성된 master oscillator power amplifier 구조이다. 레이저 빔 시준 및 정렬을 위하여 틸팅 기능이 가능한 출력단을 개발하였다. 출력단은 채움값을 높이기 위하여 원통형 구조로 제작하였으며, 광섬유 엔드캡의 결합이 가능하게 하였고, 출력단 내부에 PZT를 장착하여 틸팅 기능을 구현하였다. 다중 채널 레이저의 각 채널 빔을 표적의 한 점으로 정렬하기 위하여 stochastic parallel gradient decent (SPGD) 알고리즘을 적용하였다. SPGD 알고리즘을 이용한 PZT 제어를 통해 다중 빔 정렬을 성공적으로 구현하였다. 다중 빔 정렬 기술을 이용한 결맞음 빔결합 기술 개발이 기대된다.

서브 미크론의 패턴으로 구성된 고효율 회절 렌즈 몰드 제작 (Fabrication of High-Quality Diffractive-Lens Mold having Submicron Patterns)

  • 본 연구는 초슬림의 광학 시스템에 적용 가능한 서브 미크론의 패턴으로 구성된 고효율 회절 렌즈의 금형을 가공하는 방법에 관한 것이다. 서브미크론의 패턴으로 구성된 고효율 회절 렌즈를 가공하기 위해 분해능이 뛰어난 전자빔 노광장치와 고속 원자 빔 플라즈마 에칭 공정을 바탕으로 다중 정렬방식을 이용하였다. 다중 정렬 방식을 이용하여 고효율 회절 렌즈를 가공 하기 위해서는 정렬 오차, 노광 오차 그리고 에칭 오차를 최소화 해야만 한다. 본 연구에서는 이 주요한 세 가지 가공 오차를 최소화 하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 지름 $267\;{\mu}m$ (NA=0.25), 최소 선 폭 226 nm, 렌즈 두께 819 nm 를 가지는 고효율 회절 렌즈 가공을 실현 하였다.

  • We have investigated the alignment ability of multi-domains by using ion beam irradiation on diamond-like carbon (DLC) thin film layers. The DLC thin films were deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) system and the low energy ion beam is irradiated from Kaufman type ion gun. The direction of liquid crystal alignment is varied by the direction of Ar ion beam irradiation.

용액 공정 기반의 다중 적층된 HfO2 박막 상에서의 액정 배향 (Liquid Crystal Alignment on Multi-stacked Layer HfO2 Thin Films Using a Solution-process)

  • Effect of multi-stacked layer (MSL), 0.1 mol (M) and 0.3 mol (M) hafnium oxide ($HfO_2$) alignment layers were fabricated via a solution-process for LCs orientation. The solutions were spin-coated and annealed in a furnace. MSL consists of three sub-layers using 0.1 M solution, mono-layer (ML) is composed of 0.3 M $HfO_2$ solution. Then ion-beam irradiation was treated with 1.8 keV for 2 min. $HfO_2$-based LC cells were investigated through photographs, pre-tilt angle using crystal rotation method, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurement, and surface roughness using atomic force microscopy(AFM) for their characteristic research. Good LC orientation characteristics were observed on MSL $HfO_2$ surface. The LC alignment mechanism on MSL $HfO_2$ and ML $HfO_2$ surfaces was attributed to van der Waals (VDW) interaction between the LC molecular and substrate surface.

마이크로 칼럼의 전자 방출원 위치 오차의 영향 (Effect of the Off-axis distance of the Electron Emitting Source in Micro-column)

  • Currently miniaturized electron-optical columns find their way into electron beam lithography systems. For better lithography process, it is required to make smaller spot size and longer working distance. But, the micro-columns of the multi-beam lithography system suffer from chromatic and spherical aberration, even when the electron beam is exactly on the symmetric axis of the micro-column. The off-axis error of the electron emitting source is expected to become worse with increasing off-axis distance of the focusing spot. Especially the electron beams far from the system optical axis have a non-negligible asymmetric intensity distribution in the micro-column. In this paper, the effect of the off-axis e-beam source is analyzed. To analyze this effect is to introduce a micro-column model of which the e-beam emitting source is aligned with the center of the electron beam by shifting them perpendicular to the system optical axis. The presented solution can be used to analysis the performance of the multi-electron-beam system. The performance parameters, such as the working distances and the focusing position are obtained by the computational simulations as a function of the off-axis distance of the emitting source.

16-QAM OFDM-Based K-Band LoS MIMO Communication System with Alignment Mismatch Compensation

  • This paper presents a novel K-band (18 GHz) 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (16-QAM) orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM)-based $2{\times}2$ line-of-sight multi-input multi-output communication system. The system can deliver 356 Mbps on a 56 MHz channel. Alignment mismatches, such as amplitude and/or phase mismatches, between the transmitter and receiver antennas were examined through hardware experiments. Hardware experimental results revealed that amplitude mismatch is related to antenna size, antenna beam width, and link distance. The proposed system employs an alignment mismatch compensation method. The open-loop architecture of the proposed compensation method is simple and enables facile construction of communication systems. In a digital modem, 16-QAM OFDM with a 512-point fast Fourier transform and (255, 239) Reed-Solomon forward error correction codecs is used. Experimental results show that a bit error rate of $10^{-5}$ is achieved at a signal-to-noise ratio of approximately 18.0 dB.

액정 디스플레이 배향막을 위한 이온빔 표면조사에 관한 연구 (Ion beam irradiation for surface modification of alignment layers in liquid crystal displays)

  • In general, polyimides (PIs) are used in alignment layers in liquid crystal displays (LCDs). The rubbing alignment technique has been widely used to align the LC molecules on the PI layer. Although this method is suitable for mass production of LCDs because of its simple process and high productivity, it has certain limitations. A rubbed PI surface includes debris left by the cloth, and the generation of electrostatic charges during the rubbing induces local defects, streaks, and a grating-like wavy surface due to nonuniform microgrooves that degrade the display resolution of computer displays and digital television. Additional washing and drying to remove the debris, and overwriting for multi-domain formation to improve the electro-optical characteristics such as the wide viewing angle, reduce the cost-effectiveness of the process. Therefore, an alternative to non-rubbing techniques without changing the LC alignment layer (i.e, PI) is proposed. The surface of LC alignment layers as a function of the ion beam (IE) energy was modified. Various pretilt angles were created on the IB-irradiated PI surfaces. After IB irradiation, the Ar ions did not change the morphology of the PI surface, indicating that the pretilt angle was not due to microgrooves. To verify the compositional behavior for the LC alignment, the chemical bonding states of the ill-irradiated PI surfaces were analyzed in detail by XPS. The chemical structure analysis showed that ability of LCs to align was due to the preferential orientation of the carbon network, which was caused by the breaking of C=O double bonds in the imide ring, parallel to the incident 18 direction. The potential of non-rubbing technology for fabricating display devices was further conformed by achieving the superior electro-optical characteristics, compared to rubbed PI.

Transflective IPS LCD with Multi-Domain Structures

  • We propose configurations for a transflective in-plane switching (IPS) cell using muti-domain structures. Usually, the cell configurations for a transflective liquid crystal(LC) cell have a complicated structure, because retardation change of transmissive part and reflective part are not same. The transflective LC cell should have two configurations for each part, such as a multi-cell gap structure. With the ion-beam alignment and the horizontal switching LC cell, a simple structure for a transflective LC cell is proposed. The configuration only adopts one cell gap structure, which may help the enhancement of a yield. Their original optical properties in conventional transmissive and reflective type IPS liquid crystal dispaly(LCD) are kept, it shows the wide-viewing angle and the good wavelength dispersion characteristics.

능동위상배열 레이더 부배열 수신기 설계 (Design of Sub-array Receiver for Active Phase Array Radar)

  • 최신의 레이더는 동시에 다양한 다수의 표적을 탐색하고, 추적하며, 외부 재밍신호를 회피할 수 있는 다기능레이더 형태로 발전하고 있다. 이러한 다기능레이더 요구사항을 만족시키기 위해서 레이더 안테나는 실시간 빔조향 뿐만 아니라 동시에 다중 빔을 형성하고, 특정 방향에 대해 수신빔 제거 등 디지털 빔 형성이 가능한 능동위상배열 안테나 형태로 구현된다. 본 논문에서는 디지털 빔 형성이 가능한 부배열 타입 배열안테나의 하드웨어 구현방안에 대해 기술하였다. 또한 배열수신빔 형성시 부엽 준위를 낮추기 위한 안테나 개구면 진폭 가중치 적용방법에 따른 부배열 수신기 설계 방법을 제시하고, 진폭 가중치 적용방법에 따른 G/T 성능을 비교하였다. 또한 설계된 부배열 마다 부배열 수신기 동적 영역에 대해 분석하고, 디지털 빔형성기의 정렬 및 보정에 더 유리한 하드웨어 구현 방안을 제시하였다.
