In wireless environments, wideband receivers are used in a communication intelligent system to detect unknown signals and obtain azimuth information. To design a wideband receiver that performs multiple signal detection and direction finding simultaneously, it is necessary to consider a reception structure composed of multiple channels. In this paper, we propose a wideband multi-channel receiver for direction finding of unknown wideband communication signals including frequency hopping signals. A signal processing method for detecting received signals and estimating azimuth information is presented, and components of the manufactured wideband receiver are described. In addition, test results of the signal detection performance by mounting the proposed wideband multi-channel receiver on the flight system are included.

In this study, the crystalline property of a-plane GaN epitaxial layer grown on r-plane sapphire by a HVPE method has been investigated according to the V/III ratio and the growth time of multi-step growth. Furthermore, these results were compared with the previous result obtained from the single-step growth of a-plane GaN on r-plane sapphire substrate. In the multi-step growth for a-plane GaN epitaxial layer on r-plane sapphire, the FWHM values of rocking curve in GaN epitaxial layer were decreased as the HCl source flow rate and the growth time were increased. The void formed in epitaxial layer was continuously decreased as the growth time in first step and second step using a higher HCl flow rate was increased. As a result, the GaN layer obtained with the longest growth time on the first step and second step exhibited the lowest FWHM values of 584 arcsec and the smallest dependence of azimuth angle.

This paper proposes a method for the acoustic imaging wherein the traditional requirement of the relative movement between the transmitter and target is overcome. This is facilitated through the beamforming acoustic array in the transmitter, in which the target is illuminated by the array at various azimuth and elevation angles without the physical movement of the acoustic array. The concept of beam steering of the acoustic array facilitates the formation of the beam at desired angular positions of azimuth and elevation angles. This paper substantiates that the combination of illumination of the target from different azimuth and elevation angles with respect to the transmitter (through the beam steering of beam forming acoustic array) and the beam steering at multiple frequencies (through SF) results in enhanced reconstruction of images of the target in the underwater scenario. This paper also demonstrates the possibility of reconstruction of the image of a target in underwater without invoking the traditional algorithms of Digital Image Processing (DIP). This paper comprehensively and succinctly presents all the empirical formulae required for modelling the acoustic medium and the target to facilitate the reader with a comprehensive summary document incorporating the various parameters of multi-disciplinary nature.

Building change monitoring based on building detection is one of the most important fields in terms of monitoring artificial structures using high-resolution multi-temporal images such as CAS500-1 and 2, which are scheduled to be launched. However, not only the various shapes and sizes of buildings located on the surface of the Earth, but also the shadows or trees around them make it difficult to detect the buildings accurately. Also, a large number of misdetection are caused by relief displacement according to the azimuth and elevation angles of the platform. In this study, object-based building detection was performed using the azimuth angle of the Sun and the corresponding main direction of shadows to improve the results of building change detection. After that, the platform's azimuth and elevation angles were used to detect changed buildings. The object-based segmentation was performed on a high-resolution imagery, and then shadow objects were classified through the shadow intensity, and feature information such as rectangular fit, Gray-Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) homogeneity and area of each object were calculated for building candidate detection. Then, the final buildings were detected using the direction and distance relationship between the center of building candidate object and its shadow according to the azimuth angle of the Sun. A total of three methods were proposed for the building change detection between building objects detected in each image: simple overlay between objects, comparison of the object sizes according to the elevation angle of the platform, and consideration of direction between objects according to the azimuth angle of the platform. In this study, residential area was selected as study area using high-resolution imagery acquired from KOMPSAT-3 and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Experimental results have shown that F1-scores of building detection results detected using feature information were 0.488 and 0.696 respectively in KOMPSAT-3 image and UAV image, whereas F1-scores of building detection results considering shadows were 0.876 and 0.867, respectively, indicating that the accuracy of building detection method considering shadows is higher. Also among the three proposed building change detection methods, the F1-score of the consideration of direction between objects according to the azimuth angles was the highest at 0.891.
In order to estimate the anisotropy of the medium, we deployed a series of 120-sources in a borehole, and simultaneously recorded 3-component seismic data at 5 locations on the surface. We have tried to estimate the directional velocities by comparing the first arrivals at different receivers. For that purpose, the receiver statics must be corrected prior to pick the first arrivals. However, in an IVSP with a limited number of receiver points, it may not possible to estimate a reliable receiver statics, therefore, instead of using individual first arrival times, we tried to estimate the move-out velocity at each records. From this analysis, we have found that there exists a measurable amount of difference in directional velocities, and confirmed that the velocity anisotropy agrees with the results of the previous studies conducted in this area.

This paper shows the desist concept of an ATS(Antenna Tracking Software) to control the movement of the MSC(Multi-Spectral Camera) antenna. The MSC has a two-axes directional X-band antenna for image transmission to KGS(KOMSAT2 Ground Station). The main objective of the ATS is to drive the APM(Antenna Pointing Mechanism) to the required elevation and the azimuth position according to an appropriate TPF(Tracking Parameter File). The ATS is implemented as one task of the SBC(Single Board Computer) software, which uses VxWorks as a real time OS. The ATS has several operational modes such as STANDBY mode, First EL mode, First AZ mode, Normal Operation mode, and so on. The ATS uses two PI controllers fur the velocity and the position loop respectively, to satisfy the requirements specification. In order to show the feasibility of the described design concept, the various simulations and the experiments are performed under specific test configuration.

The multi-core technology has become pervasive in embedded systems. An implementation of the Doppler Beam Sharpening algorithm that improves the azimuth resolution by using doppler frequency shift is possible only in multi-core environment because of the amount of calculation. In this paper, we design of multi-core architecture for a real time implementation of DBS algorithm. And based on designed structure, we produce a DBS image on P4080 board.

This paper presents a spherical motor which can control in multi-degree of freedom operation. The spherical motor has been researched by many types of structure. Thhis paper shows a spherical shaped airgap and surfaced permanent magnets. Especially, The motor consists of dual rotor cores. Unlike a cylindrical motor, the spherical motor design can be considered with azimuth direction on spherical coordinates. Therefore the permanent magnet surfaced on the rotor need to be designed optimally in order to generate a sinusoidal magnetic flux density in the airgap. This paper presents results of optimal design for reducing torque ripple of the multi-degree of freedom spherical motor.

In this paper we propose an on-glass antenna which consists of conducting dual center striplines and multi-loaded striplines. Multi-loaded striplines and dual center lines were employed for achieving a broad matching bandwidth and improving a vertical radiation gain, respectively. The detail design parameters were determined using the Pareto genetic algorithm with an full wave EM simulator. The optimized design was built and installed on a commercial vehicle, and the antenna performances such as the return loss and the radiation gain were measured in a semi-anechoic chamber. The measurement results showed the matching bandwidth($S_{11}$<-3 dB) of about 49 % in the T-DMB frequency band, the vertical gain of about -3 dBi along the bore-sight direction, and the average gain of about -10 dBi along the azimuth direction.

In geophysics and geophysical exploration fields, we can use information about inclination and azimuth in various ways. These include borehole deviation logging for inversion process, real-time data acquisition system, geophysical monitoring system, and so on. This type of information is also necessarily used in the directional drilling of shale gas fields. We thus need to develop a subminiature, low-powered, multi-functional inclination and azimuth measurement system for geophysical exploration fields. In this paper, to develop real-time measurement system, we adopt the high performance low power Micro Control Unit (made with state-of-the-art Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor technology) and newly released Micro Electro Mechanical Systems Attitude Heading Reference System sensors. We present test results on the development of a multifunctional real-time inclination and azimuth measurement system. The developed system has an ultra-slim body so as to be installed in 42mm sonde. Also, this system allows us to acquire data in real-time and to easily expand its application by synchronizing with a depth encoder or Differential Global Positioning System.
