  • Multi-span beams carrying multiple point masses are widely used in engineering applications, but the literature for free vibration analysis of such structural systems is much less than that of single-span beams. The complexity of analytical expressions should be one of the main reasons for the last phenomenon. The purpose of this paper is to utilize the numerical assembly method (NAM) to determine the exact natural frequencies and mode shapes of a multi-span uniform beam carrying multiple point masses. First, the coefficient matrices for an intermediate pinned support, an intermediate point mass, left-end support and right-end support of a uniform beam are derived. Next, the overall coefficient matrix for the whole structural system is obtained using the numerical assembly technique of the finite element method. Finally, the natural frequencies and the associated mode shapes of the vibrating system are determined by equating the determinant of the last overall coefficient matrix to zero and substituting the corresponding values of integration constants into the related eigenfunctions respectively. The effects of in-span pinned supports and point masses on the free vibration characteristics of the beam are also studied.

  • The signaling protocol for B-ISDN should support variety of services including point-to-pont single-connection call, point-to-point multi-connection call and point-to-multipoint connection call. an efficient signaling protocol for point-to-point multi-connection call based on ITU-T Recommendation Q.298X is presented in this paper. Sequential establishment of madatory and optional connections and common routing scheme for synchronization, along with separation of information elements for establishement of multi-connection call are included in the proposed signaling protocol. Limited network resources can be used more efficiently by proposed sequential establishement of mandartory and optional connection for point-to-point multi-connection call which can provide multimedia services. And common routing can be provided effectively by proposed common routing scheme for connectios requiring synchronization like as video-phone and video-conference.

  • A LCD glass plate is supported by multi-pin and golf-tee type support. In the FEM analysis, the support condition is treated as simply supported boundary .condition. In this study, the optimization on the location of multi-simply support is conducted. The size optimization method of ANSYS 8.0 is used as the optimization tool to search for the optimal support location of LCD glass plate. In the manufacturing process, the support condition is a fatal factor of quality control of LCD production. From the results of optimization, deflection decreases 51% compared with the original model.

  • The TFT-LCD is extensively used from a small watch to a large TV display, and the demand is increasing rapidly. The size of R-LCD glass plate becomes more bigger, and the thickness become more thinner with high demands. As a result natural frequency of the TFT-LCD glass plate becomes more lower. The TFT-LCD glass plate will be moved by robot arm and may receive effect of vibration that occur at transfer. Natural frequency of the TFT-LCD glass plate is increased or decrease according to location that robot arm fixs glass plate. Purpose of a this study is finding support location that optimize the first natural frequency of TFT-LCD glass plate. The size optimization method of ANSYS 8.0 is used as the optimization tool search on the optimal support location of TFT-LCD glass plate. The considered number of support point is from 4 to 9.

  • N-screen is a promising technology to improve support for multimedia multicasting, content sharing, content mobility, media scalability, and seamless mobility. In this paper, the WiMedia distributed-MAC (D-MAC) protocol is adopted for development of a seamless N-screen wireless service. Furthermore, to provide a multi-hop, one source multi-use N-screen service through point to point streaming in a seamless D-MAC protocol, a dynamic multi-frame transmission technology is proposed. In this technology, a dynamic time slot allocation scheme and a multi-hop resource reservation scheme are combined. In the proposed dynamic time slot allocation scheme, two thresholds, a hard threshold and a soft threshold, are included to satisfy the power consumption and delay requirements. A multi-frame DRP reservation scheme is proposed to minimize end-to-end delay during the multi-hop transmissions between N-screen devices. The proposed dynamic multi-frame transmission scheme enhances N-screen performance in terms of the multi-hop link establishment success rate and link establishment time compared to the conventional WiMedia D-MAC system.

  • Piles and pile foundations have been in common use since very early times. Usually function of piles is to carry load to a depth at which adequate support is available. Another important use of piles is to furnish lateral support and nowadays it is getting highlighted due to the wind load, lateral action of earthquake, and so on. After Broms (1964), many researchers have been suggested methods for estimating lateral capacity of pile. But each method assumes different earth pressure distribution and lateral earth pressure coefficient and it gives confusion to pile designers. Lateral earth pressure, essential in lateral capacity estimation, influenced by pile's behavior under lateral load. Prasad and Chari (1999) assumed the rotation point of pile and suggested an equation of ultimate lateral load capacity. In this study, we investigate the depth of rotation point in both homogeneous soil and multi layered soil, and compare to the estimation value by previous research. To model the pile set up in the sand, we use the chamber and small scale steel pile, and rain drop method. Test results show the rotation point is formed where the Prasad and Chari's estimation value, and they also show multi layered condition affects to location of rotation point to be scattered.

  • In this study, the effects of ground shocks due to explosive loads on the dynamic response of historical masonry bridges are investigated by using the multi-point shock response spectrum method. With this purpose, different charge weights and distances from the charge center are considered for the analyses of a masonry bridge and depending on these parameters frequency-varying shock spectra are determined and applied to each support of the two-span masonry bridge. The net blast induced ground motion consists of air-induced and direct-induced ground motions. Acceleration time histories of blast induced ground motions are obtained depending on a deterministic shape function and a stationary process. Shock response spectrums determined from the ground shock time histories are simulated using BlastGM software. The results obtained from uniform and multi-point response spectrum analyses cases show that significant differences take place between the uniform and multi-point blast-induced ground motions.

  • Ethernet passive optical networks (EPONs) are an emerging access network technology which has a point-to-multipoint topology. EPONs operate point-to-multipoint in the OLT-ONU direction, and point-to-point in the ONU-OLT direction. To support point-to-point emulation and shared LAM emulation, EPONs use multi-point control protocol (MPCP). The MPCP uses logical link identification (LLID) field for frame tagging and filtering between the OLT and ONUs. In this paper, I propose logical-group identification (LGID) for logical link-based multicasting or VLAN services in EPONs. Using LGID with new frame tagging and filtering rules, EPONs support differentiated multimedia broadcasting or multicasting services. Additionally, EPONs can support logical link-based VLAN services that divides ONUs into several subsets.

  • EPONs are a low cost, high speed solution to the bottleneck problem of broadband access networks. To support point-to-point and shared LAN emulation, EPONs use the multi-point control protocol (MPCP), which uses logical link identification (LLID) forframe tagging and filtering between the OLT and ONUs. In this paper, ONU-based multicast or multiple shared LAN emulation for IPTV services is proposed using logical group identification (LGID). Using ONUbased VLAN services, EPONs can support separate and secure connections between providers and subscribers in a simple manner. Also, differentiated IPTV channel packages can be delivered through EPONs by implementing ONU-based VLAN and IGMP snooping mechanisms.

  • In this paper, we present a new mixed type iterative process for approximating the common fixed points of single-valued nonexpansive mapping and multi-valued nonexpansive mapping in a CAT(0) space. We demonstrate strong and weak convergence theorems for the new iterative process in CAT(0) spaces, as well as numerical results to support our theorem.
