  • Today deep drawing and ironing are the major process in manufacturing of battery case used in cellular phone from aluminum. The same technology is utilized in manufacturing of steel or aluminum cans for components of medical instrument, portable PC, walkman and so on. Most of these processes require multi-stage ironing following the deep drawing and redrawing processes. The practical aspects of this technology are well known and gained through extensive experiment and production know-how. However, the fundamental aspects of theses processes are relatively less known. Thus, it is expected that process simulations using FEM techniques would provide additional detailed information that could be utilized to improve the process condition. This paper illustrates the application of process modeling to deep drawing and redrawing operations for High Precision Rectangular Battery Case. A commercially avaliable finite element code LS-DYNA3D was used to simulate deep drawing and redrawing operations.

  • In cold forging by multi stage former, crowing process is important process for the high production rate and automation of forging process. But various cropping defects occur in cropping process such as orthogonality, ovality and unevenness, etc. These defects have harmful effects on the dimensional tolerance of products and tool life. So in this study, the cropping experiment is performed to examine influence of cropping process variables(clearance, cutting velocity, H/D) on occurrence of crowing defects and optimum process variables are selected, and then FE analysis is performed to verify influence of these defects on dimensional tolerance and tool life.

금형 냉각을 고려한 다단 열간 단조 공정의 유한요소해석 (Finite Element Analysis of Multistage Hot Forging Process During Mold Cooling)

  • Multistage hot forging process enables mass production of various parts at a high speed, wherein, it is important to design the forging steps in an optimal way. Finite element methods are widely applied for optimizing the forging process design; however, they present inaccurate results due to the rapid change in the mold temperature during multistage hot forging. In this study, the temperature distributions of the mold in a steady state were calculated via heat transfer analysis during mold cooling. The flow stress and friction coefficient of the material were measured according to the temperature and were applied for numerical analysis of the multistage hot forging process. Eventually, the accuracy of the analysis results is verified by comparing these results with the experiments.

  • This paper describes some development of Computer-Aided Process Planning System for cold-forging of rotationally symmetric parts(soild shape and solid-can combined shape) produced by the presses or formers. Using the developed system, forming sequences for producing final product are generated as graphic forms and process names, preform dimensions and process parameters(load, punch pressure, die pressure) are generated as routing sheets. Konwledges for forming sequence and process parameters are extracted from process limitations, plasticity theories, handbooks, relevent refferences and empirical know-how of experts in cold forging companies. Among extracted knowldeges, general and consistent knowledges are represented as design rules and are constructed as knowledge base. The developed system provides more powerful tool for through checking the producibilities of design, conformation of appropriate forming sequences and discoveries of new possibility. The results of the developed system are in good agreement with the practical data.

스트레치포밍을 이용한 랜딩기어의 내면벽에 대한 공정설계 (Process Sequence Design of the Inner Skin of Landing Gear Using Stretch Forming Process)

  • This paper is concerned with the design of process sequence to form the inner skin of landing gear. The inner skin of landing gear is a part of airplane which is known to be difficult to form its shape. Our study investigates the production method of inner skin and examines the design criteria by three dimensional elastic-plastic finite element method. Based on the results of simulation, design strategy for improving the process sequence is developed using stretch forming process. The final product of inner skin is produced in multi-stage operations with annealing treatment to meet the required capacity of press. The numerical results show that the newly designed process can produce the required part successfully within the design criteria.

Effect of Ice Recrystallization on Freeze Concentration of Milk Solutes in a Lab-Scale Unit

  • Freeze concentration of milk was carried out thorough the controlled recrystallization of ice in a multi-stage freeze concentrator. Artificial temperature control was used to induce ice recrystallization via a heat and cold shock process. In each stage of freeze concentration, the recrystallization time was fixed at 1, 2, 4, and 8 hr to compare the solute concentrate, yield, Brix, ice crystal size, and freezing point at each experimental condition. Higher concentrations of milk solids were seen with increased durations of recrystallization time, and a maximum total solids in the final product of 32.7% was obtained with a ripening time of 8 hr in a second stage process. Milk solid yield decreased according to the solute concentration and recrystallization time. The results of Brix and ice crystal size showed a positive correlation with recrystallizaiton time. These results suggest the possibility of freeze concentration being of practical use in the dairy industry.

  • The high-pressure die-casting is one of the most effective methods to produce a large amount of products in short cycle time. This process, however, has a problem that the gas porosity defect appears easily. The generation of gas porosity is known mainly due to the air entrapment during the injection stage. Most of numerical simulations for the molten metal flow pattern observations have done in the treating of one phase fluid flow but the gas-liquid interface is essentially multi- phase phenomenon. In this paper, the two-phase fluid flow numerical simulation methods have been adapted to predict the gas porosity generations in the molten metal. The accuracy and the usefulness of the new simulation module have been emphasized and verified through some comparison experiments.

Solubility parameter를 이용한 다층 클렌징 오일에 관한 연구 (Study of Multi-layer Cleansing Oil Using Solubility Parameter)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a method to evaluate solubility parameter interactions of cosmetic ingredients in formulations. This experimentation relates to the fabrication of new multi-layer cleansing oil which can remove make-up products such as lipstick, foundation, mascara, eye shadow, etc., and also can wash away dirt and sebum from the skin just in one stage process. Solubility parameter and specific gravity of various cosmetic ingredients are measured to explain the cleanliness of interface, detergency of make-up cosmetics on the skin surface. The results suggest that it is possible for cosmetic chemists to use solubility parameter of cosmetic materials for fabrication of new formulation of 3-layer cleansing oil.

  • Just-In-Time production is to keep the kanban system. When production managers implement and operate successfully the system in the multi-Line, multi-stage production setting, it is very important to determine the number of kanbans in deterministic kanban system under consideration with relevant factors as well as with cost. In concrete, we discuss about following factors in kanban system and provide a model formulating the multi-objective goal programming : Demand, stock on hand in process, Inventory cost and Labor cost, Vendor's suppling capacity, Work Load. Finally we analyze several numerical examples in order to test the model and attempt to expand the model in general case.

현장규모의 유류오염토양 세척공법에 다단연속탈착 및 교반탈착기법을 이용한 세척공정 성능향상에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Full-scale Soil Washing Process Improved by Multi-stage Continuous Desorption and Agitational Desorption Techniques to Remediate Petroleum-contaminated Soils)

  • 최근 주한미군기지 이전에 따른 토양오염도 조사결과, 유류저장시설에서의 누출 및 사격장내 중금속에 의한 오염이 심각한 것으로 보고되었으며 오염토양 정화에 대한 관심이 증대되고 있다. 다단연속탈착기법과 교반탈착기법을 적용한 현장규모의 유류오염토양 세척공정 성능향상에 관한 연구를 위해서 각각 다른 세지역의 정화대상부지 오염토양 중 미세토사가 29.3, 16.6, 7.8% 함유된 토양을 사용하였으며, 초기 오염농도는 각각 5,183, 2,560, 4,860 mg/kg이였다. 세척실험에 사용한 세척제로는 물을 이용하였으며 세척수를 6개월 이상 100% 재활용하여 세척공정을 운영하였다. 현장규모 세척 실험 결과 각기 다른지역의 오염토양 중 3.0 mm 이상의 오염토양은 세척수 분사압력 3.0 kg/$cm^2$의 고압분사를 통한 습식분리 후 TPH 농도는 280, 50, 356 mg/kg으로 초기농도 대비 각각 85.2, 98.2, 89.9%의 TPH 제거율을 보였다. 3.0${\sim}$0.075 mm의 모래입경에 대하여 1차 물리적 탈착 후 TPH 농도 [초기 입경별 오염부하량 대비]는 834, 1,110, 1,460 mg/kg 이었으며, 추가적인 세척공정의 2차 연속 물리적 탈착인 다단연속탈착기법을 통한 TPH 농도는 각각 330, 385, 245 mg/kg으로 초기농도 대비 각각 92.4, 90.6, 90.1%의 세척효율을 보였다. 미세모래 입경(0.075${\sim}$0.053 mm)에 대한 다단연속세척 후 TPH 농도는 791, 885, 1,560 mg/kg으로 나타났으며, 추가적인 교반 탈착 후 TPH 농도는 각각 428, 440, 358 mg/kg으로 초기농도 대비 92.0, 93.9, 92.9%의 제거율을 보였다. 이와 같은 결과를 바탕으로, 토양세척기법은 TPH 법적기준을 맞출 수 있는 전략적 복합공정을 통해 다양한 오염토양에 폭넓게 적용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.
